Hey moycron, if you are looking for Adventure II, the closest you can get is Indenture by Craig Pell. There is a link hereabouts, I'm still trying to find to direct you. It has just about everything you asked for (except that cool dragon idea)
As for a sequel, I'd take a Jungle Hunt II (more jungle please) or a Indian Jones Temple of Doom (make this one less complicated please) or even just a Spider-man II with different types of action. Odd that there weren't more sequels...

Alex!
You played the 2600 versions of AD&D? How were they? And why can't somebody give up the ROMS?
-
I see your point, Ben. But I think most hardcore RPG-ists look for things like customization of characters, a variety of weapons, sub-quests, rich storylines.
I'd make a case for Pitfall II being a pseudo-RPG as well. (But its my fav game, so you know)

WOW! I never have been able to beat level 2! There's not enough time! I have beat 1,3,4, but NEVER have made any progress on 5.
The map they give in the instructions is really confusing. I'm going to make a better one, unless someone knows of an existing better map. I love reading the instructions, though. Very well done! Private Eye is an A- for me!

According to the README file. The only differences are VERY minor (Like a different E-mail address for the guy).
However, when I tried to play it on WindowsME (a difficult task I assure you) the joystick controls were all wonky. Guess I'll have to stick to 1.5.
Answering my own question, Stan

Secret Quest has a little RPG feel to it. Also, Solaris has a space RPG kinda vibe. That's about it. Dragonstomper is the big one. 2600 just too limited to do too much RPG-ing. Would be cool though....

Thanks Moycon, do you know of any differences between 1.5 and 1.7?

ALBERT! Stop sitting on all that Atari gold and sell it to us! Come on man!

For me its all nostalgia, baby! Capturing the joyful days of my childhood and bringing that fun back to life today (I'm 26 in a week and half) I didn't even know this "world" of Atari fans existed until I saw coverage of the classic gaming convention on TechTV and they plugged Atariage.com. I'll probably be collecting Atari stuff from now on, until I can find all the games I had as a kid, and some new ones I've discovered now as a bigger kid.

Yeah, I remember doing it as a kid with some friends. We worked in tandem. Funny, I don't remember it being so freaking complicated as a kid (seemed easy once we did it). Now its harder than a lot of PSX RPG games!

Awesome, Vinnie! I've got a best pal who lives in Knoxville! Can you give me some other hot spots to send him to? I promise not to cut too much into your territory! I'm looking for mostly common stuff!

Lemmi,
ANYTHING Atari is hard to find in these parts. It was my fav game as a kid and I miss it badly.
As for EBAY, I have a personal boycott on them. I know that may sound stupid to some, but I have my reasons.
So, my wish is very simple, but for me very important.

My wish is simple: A Pitfall II cart, would the original instructions be too much to ask?

GAH! I have lost the number 4 on level 4! I found it the first time I beat it, but now I cannot find it again! The bat is safely tucked away in the Black Castle, so I know he didn't move it. Does anybody know its starting location for this level? I'm trying to place all items in their starting locations for the "strategy guide" I am compiling. I think I've looked everywhere, but clearly I have missed something. Help?
Now really lost in the maze, Stan

Please don't make me relive the fact that I dumped all my 2600 stuff (two systems: a sixer and a JR, and over 70 games of varying modern rarity all with box and manuals) into a yard sale when I was 15 and got my NES. Its all too horrible.....

Listen to the Twit, stay away from an image with all that text. And pick a "soft" color, you want to bring the text out of the background, not dominate it.

WOW! Did not know about that title screen secret! Yes, the map for 4 and 5 are the same, everything (items) is just random in 5.
The bat got loose on my level 4, so I'm having trouble tracking down the #4, but thanks for the new game title additions. Hopefully, I'll have my list started tonight.
By the way, out of curiosity, what number did you get when you beat 5?
What about mapping the castle mazes? Green and Flashing castle mazes are VERY VERY deep, but rarely is there anything in there. Would a map be helpful, or just a waste of time and effort?
(did you say you got the Chalice from the Green castle in level 4) I can't remember where I got it, but I think it was on the second or third screen inside the Green Castle)

Hey Zero, you looking for a Super-man cart? I saw one the other day, but passed on it! I'll see if I can't track it down for you...

This cat named Craig Pell (I think), took the Adventure code and did some SERIOUS adding to. He added 2 new levels, 2 new castles, 1 new dragon and some other seriously cool things.
The first 3 levels are just like Adventure that we know and love, a nice safe 30 screen environment, however the last two add around 270 more screens and mazes that will drive you totally nuts. Its a blast to play and the new difficulty settings make it a real challenge!
There is a link around this board somewhere, if I find it, I'll move it over here.
Hey Trebor, I beat level 5 today with all the numbers in the yellow castle and got something REALLY cool. I won't ruin it, but I suggest you and your friend give it a go.
Cheers, Stan
-
WOW! That is a ton of game titles. I'm going to start my list tonight, we'll compare notes.
I'm 90% done with the exterior mapping. Do you think I should also map the interiors of the castles? (I'm not going to map the "invisible" mazes, they are usually only a couple of screens and easy to navigate, plus I'd like there to be some discovery left to the player)

Yep, that's why they are going out of business. I bet they sell used CD's for $13.95.
I've pretty much steered clear of the Pawn shops. Do they usually have stuff? The only time I went to a pawn shop, all they had were some old NES and N64's and one Jaguar. The guy said they didn't handle 2600 stuff and was surprised that he had the Jag. That put me off pawn shops.
-
Trebor, you people are great! I'm going to try what you are doing and see how many different games I can come up with!
Does it matter what room you put the items in?
(By the way, when I beat Level 5, the chalice was just sitting in the first room of the green castle.)
I'm almost finished with my mapping endeavor. Your discoveries have got me to thinking about compiling a (believe it or not) Indenture Strategy Guide, complete with maps, solutions and secrets. Is this a good idea or am I just over-excited?

I'm running out of options here in Kentucky. The thrifts are very weak, the FLEAs are a monthly bust; so I am relegated to the realm of yard sales. Now, I have no interest in rummaging through somebody's old underwear and lawnmowers to come up empty handed. So I ask ye, how do you determine which yard sales will be the most fruitful? Can you tell just by looking, or must you stop at every single box of broken Barbie dolls on the sidewalk? Are there telltale signs that someone might be harboring a treasured 2600 collection? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm playing on version 1.5 and i just experimented with different ways of beating the game. Although NOTHING has happened with those stupid numbers (maybe I'm not putting them on the right "chairs?" What order did your friend use?)
As for the loading glitch, it happened to me. I beat the game, and then tried to reload the same file. When I did, whammo, no square! However, I totally quit out of the game and then restarted and loaded the same game and whammo! my square was back. (All of this took place on the VGR screen, but no Atari symbol or anything else...)
I'm still working.....

Atari RPGs?
in Atari 2600

Albert. Montezuma for 2600 is plenty big enough for me, I can't get past the first level. Its loads of fun though and somewhat close to a RPG...
