Or you could use analog PC controller with a Y adapter and use original controller for keypad.

Weekend with Bernie or something like that? -
Some of the assembler doesn't work under 64-bits OS. I ran into this when I tried asm for 2600, need older OS or DOSBox with older WIndows installed inside that.

I want pepperoni and mushroom. Oops wrong tombstone. I've envisioned mine looking like classic NES controller. The + and 2 fire buttons with my name and date in the middle where start and select would be. Currently not married so not a problem with second name. The polished portion should look dark gray while the rest should look light gray. The back should have in pixelated font "GAME OVER" -
Took a while for eBay to remove it though. I wonder how many suckers bought that and would be wondering when it'll arrive.

There are fully functioning controller that is about the size of US half dollar coin. It might be possible to shrink 5200 controller quite a bit with modern analog stick and small numeric keypad but there's limit to how far one can go with controllers. If you can't handle it, it's too small. I'll keep my 5200 and CV controller stock because I got big hands. (Not Andre the Giant big though)

2 full days from end of sale to open UID and 4 more days after that to close it in seller's favor. I have auto UID set so I just leave em and if anyone complains, I tell them eBay did it automatically. They can't leave any neg when UID is open and are blocked if they never paid.

eBay Auction -- Item Number: 201937180355 From China, 0 fb seller, 5 available, price way lower than typical, and the image are watermarked from somewhere else. If it is not a scam, I'll eat my underwear and post it online.

Controller goes on top of the console if I intend to play soon, and I have a box nearby for controllers if I am not going to play for a while. I did need to have some space above the console to insert and remove cart so it's plenty to leave the controllers.

The Official "Thrift finds" Thread

Bag of LEGO parts and part of airplane fuselage. All 100% genuine LEGO, not megablock or something. $3 for it, it is about 3/4 complete including all minifigs so it was cheap. I found another bag of mixed parts, no assembly, and looked to be 90% junk clone parts so I left that. Also mini retro arcade machine with 300 games. Works but 300 lame NES-style games that looks like leftover from programming classes. Not pirated ROM like many of the early xx-in-1 games but all original games. Maybe I'll gut this one, add a Pi, use the LCD and controller, and run emulator for low-res games like Atari, NES, and SMS. -
Sega IR 7000 works for that. Do keep in mind a lot of these organizers do not have a backup method other than second battery so if both main and second batteries goes dead, everything is wiped. Flash ROM were expensive and not used in low priced organizers back in the day. Even if you find one with serial port and have the cable to connect to PC, the software are likely written for Windows 9x to XP and the serial driver probably won't work on modern computer. Not that it matters, serial port are extinct anyway, you'd need an old computer to use em.

Looking over the schematics to catch any gotchas, I noticed 5200 has 5 separate 5v rails. Are those really necessary or was it because the power supply from 80s were often noisy? It'd be easy to rig up something that is efficient, quiet, and capable of max 2A but those are very under-utilized as nothing official was made for expansion port and I am not planning to use 2600 adapter so that won't be a factor. There is very little difference between 2 and 4 port version. I only have 4 ports schematic but if I am reading it right, only 1 of the 4 analog mux chip are used for player 3 and 4 and can be omitted. Other 3 analog muxes are for P1 and 2, P1 and 3, and P2 and 4. Go figure. The analog sound circuit isn't going to be easy, lots of odd parts that I can't find in Eagle.

What game system/game are the kids playing in "Jaws 2"?

Happened to me. Posted some info about store display stuff on assemblergames forum. 8 years later someone comes in and wants to buy it. New user, one post. Never came back. -
So no file or something that I can submit to get PCB made? I could try to copy schematic to Eagle but the 2 video chips are custom and would probably need custom Eagle file. *looks at the schematic* My eyes are going to bleed. If I do go this route and it works, I will offer finished Eagle file that you can submit to get PCB made.

I have nearly a dozen game consoles connected to my TV. 5200 is one of the few I have that isn't connected mainly because it's a huge console. Colecovision was fairly large but nearly half are empty space just to serve as controller storage so it was easy (albeit messy) hack to shrink Colecovision system in half. 5200 however uses very large board and the best easy shrink is by cutting off about 3 inches from the back. There are schematics everywhere, couldn't someone cook up a PCB that is smaller by getting rid of useless RF circuit (modern TV don't support it anyway), replace as many off the shelf ICs and components with SMD version, and optimizing space using today's computers that are cheap and far more powerful that what Atari could have when they designed the 5200 originally. The only things that aren't readily available would be POKEY, 2 video chips, and ROM. (burn EPROM or flash ROM if custom BIOS is desired or use original, cannibalize other chips from broken 5200)

Hmmm no love for Cauldron or Cauldron II? Cauldron II is like Montezuma's Revenge on steroid.

XBox Duke controller $3 with breakaway cable attached. I can see why it was discontinued quickly in favor of S controller, little kid can't hold this beast well. But it seems to fit my hand better than S controller so it will be my new main controller. -

Any chance you checked the last posted date before you responded? The last one was 3 years ago. Not complaining, just pointing this out as some different forum moderator can be harsh on gravediggers. -
Ultima 5, Bard's Tale, Dragon Wars, Legacy of the Ancients and Elite.

Funny / Stupid / Crazy / Lame Auction Listings

eBay Auction -- Item Number: 122500199294 Didn't sell the first few times around so raise the price to make it sell faster? Or maybe he's just showing it off since listing is free on eBay and he could probably keep listing it indefinitely. -
Those with unmodified systems might find this useful...

If only I can find them for under $10 and not worn out so much the plug falls out easily. -

Different region, different designs, and likely different rules. In USA just about every console that uses cart also uses wall hogging brick. Sega CD and Jaguar CD also has wall hogging brick. TG-16 CD system however do not have that, they are inline style with small standard plug. All of the CD system (Saturn, DC, XBox, PSX, etc) all uses internal power or inline power brick and small plug. A fully decked out Genesis or Mega Drive system with CD and 32X needs 3 bulky bricks and uses up the whole 6-outlet power strip on its own. There are aftermarket adapters or custom mod that gets around all these problem but some of the aftermarket adapters are of shit quality that is prone to adding signal hum that can produce annoying sound or wavy picture. -
Not sure if this was mentioned but there's a bug in NES game Pyramid that can be annoying. When you start, turn off sound and music in options, then play game as normal. During the gameplay, drop a bomb. This turns on the siren sound and it will keep wailing on until you shut off NES in frustration. I think it was an oversight in the game code, the developer probably intended for normal music to resume after bomb which would have stopped siren sound but since music was turned off, the siren doesn't get stopped. Also the siren sound doesn't check if the sound is enabled or disabled in the options so it goes off anyway. I'm sure it'd be an easy fix for someone who knows NES assembly.
