  1. Quoting Nurmix in the thread "Next Generation Intellivision Classics for PC & Mac Kickstarter": "They've sold extremely well" Perhaps Nurmix could elaborate on that statement. (I read somewhere that it was about 100 000 units but I could have misunderstood.) In any case, these extremely good sales figures, are they AtGames sales figures or the retailers sales figures? If ToysRus and other retailers ordered the Flashback in big quantities, of course AtGames/IP can say that they have sold extremely well. But are they selling extremely well at the retailers? Not if you look at the some posts above. Maybe they are selling extremely well in certain regions and not so good in others. Just an observation and a couple of thoughts.
  2. And maybe a Ford Ranchero 1978 to go with it?
  3. Never played it, but I love the sequel "Grogs Revenge" on C64. A friend told me that he and a classmate used to run home on lunchbrake just to play Grogs Revenge... Maybe they are planning on that one too. Grog's Revenge Commodore 64 Video Game Review - MAMECADE
  4. Yeah... Wico joysticks are not my favorites either, but... It would be nice to see a new joystick/keypad with design loosely based on the Intellivision Wico Command Control but better looking, ergonomic and of course working perfectly. Certain games require a real joystick in my opinion. And as mentioned a new ergonomic controller with keypad, discs and action buttons with design based on a modern game controller. Again, just playing around with ideas here but I think it is doable. If for example AtGames can reproduce the original controller, then of course this could be made also. To summarize: And while I was looking for images I found this, what the hell…? This is a first for me. It seems ideas on improvements for the controllers have been there from the beginning.
  5. Outrun would be awesome, it should at least be better than the MSX and Spectrum... Let´s Compare - Outrun https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwDmfJWOu1Q And/or a remake of Pole Position - the only defeat so far against the Atari 2600 an embarrassment to the whole system... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0KSWEmeToM
  6. Well I would if I could, but I am just a provider of a general design idea here. It is up to you guys who know how the controllers actually work to make the actual inquiry… Provide all the technical specs necessary. And perhaps send them an Inty controller to disassemble. In short: The better input, the better output. My feeling is that it will not be extremely expensive. The Chinese can provide anything these days and at descent cost and low quantities. But hey, if you can make it US made or German made that would be preferred... By the way, I am sure you can make an inquiry for cartridges also...
  7. I saw this Moga controller and it reminded me of Nurmix mockup image, and lo and behold, there was a thread about it... I just had to play around with this idea a little more. I love mocking up… Not sure how expensive a new controller would be and if there is any interest, but I guess you could at least make an inquiry by sending images like these with specifications and whatnot to alibaba.com for example. I am pretty sure that someone can manufacture it. And hypothetically, if a new controller were to be made, would it be possible to make it compatible with both the original consoles and the Flashback? I suppose just one or the other? And speaking of the Flashback and controllers, how about a Flashback Wico Command Control? I am thinking as a “sold separately” product for the Flashback. I love the disc for many games (well I do not have that many games but anyways) but most arcade-style games are just made for being played with a classic joystick. Just a thought.
  8. I really like Obitus. "Impelling RPG with more than a dash of hack n´slash" Never gotten very far in it, but I love the feel and atmosphere. The intro blew my mind back in the day... (Was about to scan my own box backside, but found this one with more screenshots)
  9. PARSEC TI-99 4/A (Original) Gameplay Commodore 64 Intro Gameplay Parsec was probably the first video game I ever played (On my friends TI-99 4/A) and I was just fascinated by it at the age of 8 or 9... I have not played the C64 version, but it looks really good. An Intellivision version could be inspired by both I think...
  10. The first time I googled for an intellivision font fontmeme came up. I think it works great, easy to use and you can colorize the text. (http://fontmeme.com/intellivision-font/) No mattel electronics font though, but on fontsinuse.com it says: "The Mattel Electronics logo appears to be Gemini Computer with customized ‘M’, ‘A’, and ‘N’."
  11. Will Keith do a new websight? Intellivisionlives.com looks a bit… not up to date? It should be the gateway to all things Intellivision and is due for a remake in my opinion… There is not even an Intellivision logo, just the game club logo. Perhaps he could also add “forums” to the menu with links to AA Intellivision Forums, Intellivision.us Forums, and Intellivision Revolution Forums. When you click on “store” there is no information about where to get the flashback, no t-shirts etc. Links there to flashback retailers, Cafépress and TVStoreOnline would be a good thing. Also when you click on “home” you don’t get back to the main page, just the store. I hope I am not stepping on anybody’s toes here, just pointing things out and think it is important that this webpage looks good.
  12. Couldn´t find a thread on the subject of new adventure games in general. (If there is a thread about this, moderator can just move this there I suppose?) This below about IntyBasic by freeweed and Sierra-like graphic adventures by DZ-Jay caught my attention and since it was a little bit off topic in the thread “Reading the ECS Keyboard” I "quote" it here instead. ... "qoute" - freeweed, on 19 Dec 2014 - 9:46 PM, said: Also, not that anyone will ever bother, what with such a horrific keyboard, but we need an IntyBASIC version of this. Then maybe someone can use IntyBASIC to code up a cartridge with an actual BASIC on it, thereby a) making the ECS almost actually useful and b) completing a recursive loop of epic proportions. ... Personally, I am interested in order to make graphic adventures with a "parser interface," like the old Sierra Online games. -dZ. - "end qoute" ... First of all, always nice to see another Sierra fan. I am not a programmer myself, just a huge fan of those games and stumbled across this Adventure Game Interpreter site: AGIDEV AGI is apparently the software that Sierra used to create their games, which was news to me. Could an “IntyAGI” be made and used for developing Intellivision adventure games? (There is for example a game boy version called GBAGI.) By using a program called AGI Studio “you can create your own AGI games, or edit Sierras to your own tastes” Here is AGI Programmers Wiki: AGI Tools I for one would like to see an Intellivision King´s Quest, but I understand that could be complicated with licensing from Sierra/Activision. On the other hand they are releasing a new KQ this year, so versions for the retro scene that can help market the new games might just be in their interest. Just a thought. And just for fun, here are a couple of clips regarding the new KQ. Sierra Returning Along with King's Quest - #CUPodcast King's Quest - Game Awards 2014 Reveal Trailer Anyways, AGI games or not, KQ/Sierra games or not - I sure hope that an Intellivision game somewhat similar to the original Sierra games can be made. I was really glad to see someone just thinking about it. And here is a game idea for an adventure game: The George Plimpton Intellivision Mission In which George has to sell Intellivision consoles and get rid of competition and then get the Intellivision IV in to production and save Mattel Electronics. Just from the top of my head... But a game with George Plimpton as star character would be fun i think... I would also love to see a Tower of Doom II or if there is a copyright issue with that name then perhaps "Mountain of Doom" with a similar scenario/gameplay.
  13. By Retroware Perhaps this has been posted before but i could not find it. The "Intellivision Special" which is 1979 pt 4 here Watch all episodes here. All 1979 episodes have a little Intellivision in them... Perhaps later episodes also, I have not watched them all yet.
  14. Not exactly on topic, but some really impressive C128 images on YouTube here: VDC Mode Mania Commodore 128 64K VDC Ultra High GraFX
  15. I will absolutely try IntyBasic at some point, but my programming skills are limited to some extremely simple programming in BASIC 7.0 on my Commodore 128D back in the day. Sure hope that you can put a little Christmas demo together for X-Mas 2015. That would be nice. As for the graphics compared to the C64, I am fully aware that it won´t hold a candle to that, but I think the Intys graphic capabilities are quite good. For example the start screen from Christmas Carol looks really nice and something like that or that exact screen could be used? The "Christmas Carols" was of course just intended to be a little inspiration. Here is another one I think is fun. (It´s only a 2 minute demo.) Anyways, I do not have the ECS and Music Synthesizer but could the synth be used when doing music scores or would that require the unreleased Melody Maker and Music Conductor? I read somewhere that they were on Intellivision Lives! and Rocks! but I have not looked into it. In any case, if those programs are available, could they be of some use here? (I am a complete rookie so sorry if I ask stupid questions, but I do love "8-bit" music and sounds.) It would be fun to see some musician or band use the Inty and/or Music Synthesizer. It is perhaps not that far fetched: "Europe in 8 bits" is a documentary that explores the world of chip music, a new musical trend that is growing exponentially throughout Europe. The stars of this musical movement reveal to us how to reuse old video games hardware like Nintendo's GameBoy and the Commodore 64 to turn them into a tool capable of creating a new sound, a modern tempo and an innovative musical style. This is a new way of interpreting music performed by a great many artists who show their skills in turning these "limited" machines designed for leisure in the 80s into surprising musical instruments and graphical tools. It will leave nobody indifferent." I think it would be fun if Intellivision and the Synth could be part of this movement in some way. Here is another clip and I shoud warn you, this is Europe so there is some nudity involved... Also check this out with a 2600. I am not sure how much of the 2600 we can actually hear but still, you have to admire the guy. Care to perform in Japan with the Inty like that?
  16. Nice webpage, and the jacket... wow... AtariBuff, could you scan those magazines? Would be great to see them. When looking through my stuff I just now saw this: I never knew... Also the artworks they did are really great, and in lack of original posters I thought that I would scan the artworks from the manuals, print it out on photopaper in A4 or A5 size and frame them. My printer does not work right now but I think they will look good on the wall. My wife may however disagree. My scanner is probably not the best but here are a couple if someone wants to use them to do the same. (I only have Atlantis and Beauty and The Beast.) I also took out the centerfold images and scanned those as well and tried to edit out the markings from the fold and staplers in PAINT but that did not come out very well... I guess you need photoshop for that. If someone is a photoshopper and can make it look good please post them here. It would be much appreciated. Or could doing this be a copyright issue? I guess not if it is for personal use only? In any case, It seems that Imagic did everything with high quality and high standards in mind... As a footnote I have to mention that I first misspelled Beauty and The Beast so it came out Beauty and the Beats. Now how is that for a name of a tribute band I thought to myself?! Astrosmash might get some competition...
  17. Found this on YT while searching for a similar TV with built in video game system that I remember a friend having. That TV however had a cartridge slot on the lower right. Never played on it though. The remote control was when not in use put in the same cartridge slot (i guess for automatic recharge) It was definately a 70´s or early 80´s TV. Woodgrain and all. It is not one of these Anyone by any chance know what TV that could be? Another Magnavox model? Perhaps this has been posted before but anyways, here is the Magnavox TV Model 4305 with built-in Odyssey. Just too cool...
  18. This thread seemed fitting... I don´t remember if I actually became member, I don´t think so since I have no memory of getting a wallet card or posters. Later i realized that Imagic was apparently more or less out of business when I joined the scene in late 1985. Found this image when googleing: Anyways, I wish I had gotten the posters though. They seem to be of value these days... IMAGIC GAME POSTERS AUCTION
  19. Well, since you asked... There were actually official swedish manuals made. At least in the beginning. Here are Space Battle, Skiing, Tennis and Vectron. Backside: And these are minimized copies of original manuals on to 4A papersheets. Here it says 15 000 sold. (c:a 1986) Meaning games i think, which would translate to maybe 2000-3000 consoles? Nice that some of you enjoyed your time in Sweden... The swedish Intellivision "scene" basically only consists of a thread on the Commodore64.se forums that I started this summer... But we do have a celebrity who is an Intellivision fan of sorts. His artist name is "Markoolio" and is kind of like your Weird Al Jankovic. He has tweeted about Intellivision, for example that he was happy to get a Triple Action which was his first video game ever. Here he is in his rendition of Becks "Loser" (from 98` i think) It is about him having to travel by commuter train since he has no drivers license and is incapable of getting one. The chorus is something like "Goooing by Commuter Train, I´m a Loser Baby, I have no drivers license!" Another popular one is "More Goals" (Mera Mål) a song about that video games is better than the real thing, in this case soccer... Maybe I should suggest that he gets a ECS synthesizer for his studio... Anyways, sorry about all this but you asked for "swedish"...
  20. Great idéa/idéas! I just had to browse for a drinking game and found this game on YT. Tapper Anyways, I think this could be epic if done properly... I especially liked this: "Would be cool if it included a drinking mode where drunk patrons buy you shots and you have to drink (optionally real) shots with them Virtual drinking buddies. They get you drunk and try to get you to call ex girlfriends"
  21. I would love to see a pinned Commodore "subforum" here, like the Apple II subforum. With pinned threads for initially VIC20, C64/128 and Amiga.
  22. Congratulations on your purchase, now you have the most epic machine of the eighties in many peoples opinion. Also check out C64.com - To Protect and Preserve For example here you can click on the games link and get info and demos for thousands(?) of games... Hope you can fix your 1541 and you should also get a cassette player. A multicart and/or a Commodore 64C/128 1541 Disk Drive Emulation SD2IEC SD Card Reader are great I suppose, but if you really want that retro feeling you should use the original hardware now and then... To get a cassette tape filled with cracked games that you went through during many late hours are fond memories...
  23. Mission X was the first game I ever played on my Intellivision. It was included when you bought the console. So even if it gets old pretty fast I have a soft spot for it... A super-pro version would be cool! Just realized today (which is why I brought up this thread) that Mission X is an arcade port from Data East/DECO Cassette System. Apparently the arcade version was not too good either. Watch this game review, lot of 1982 nostalgia, not just Mission X. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zs9xuwL8wn0
  24. The Commodore 64 (launched in 1982) and other gaming computers was definitely a part of the competition that made Mattel bow out, so that is on topic I think. This is my view from a Euro/Scandinavian perspective. I always thought that Commodore was huge all over the US since they dominated the market here, and think it is really interesting to learn that it was not... I am first and foremost a Commodore 64/128 and Amiga fan. My first computer experience was probably in 1982 on a friend’s C64. Another friend had a TI-99/4A at around the same time so it could have been on that, but the C64 is what I remember most. Also at the community youth center there was a computer room with VIC 20:s and C64:s. By 1983-84 most of my friends had C64:s. So I was “raised” on those. At that time it was still too expensive for my parents but for Christmas in 1985 I got my IntV System III and was quite happy with that… (My Parent´s Bought Me Intellivision!) However, when prices dropped on the 64 and 128 in 1988 I got my first Commodore, a 128D. And in 1990 I got a Commodore Amiga 500. The Amiga of course was not really part of the competition for Inty but the C64 was. I more or less forgot about my Intellivision until about 10 years ago when me and a few friends had a “Retro Gaming Tennis Tournament”. Tennis is a really great game btw. We did that again from time to time, and it got me browsing ebay for more games which led me to what really sparked a renewed interest in my Inty, that is learning about the ECS just a couple of years ago. I had no knowledge of the ECS and thought it was a really cool thing. I understand that many were disappointed with it to say the least but for me as an ECS outsider just learning about it, it adds extra value to the Intellivision. It fascinates me how much the Intellivision brought to the gaming industry, and it is still hardly ever mentioned in documentaries. The ECS is a part of computer history, and I must say that at least Melody Blaster seems to have been way ahead of its time. Of course, as mentioned, the ECS could not compete with the C64 and other computers of that time and that is one of the reasons why Mattel did bow out. (ET most likely being the main reason…) I think it is strange that gaming computers are rarely mentioned as part of gaming history. For me the C64/128 and Amiga was almost all about gaming. I had a printer and used them for schoolwork and I like graphics and there were some great graphics programs such as Advanced Art Studio for the C64 and De Luxe Paint for the Amiga, but other than that I only used them for gaming and so did most of my friends. Here in Scandinavia gaming was almost all about computers and mainly Commodore until NES was launched. But the NES as I remember was not considered anything special compared to the C64 and especially not compared to the Amiga. I do remember seeing an Atari 2600 at some point at a friend’s but that is the only console I ever saw live until I got my own Intellivision. No one I knew had a NES at the time although I guess it sold pretty well. Anyways, so from an international point of view I think gaming home computers played a big part in the development of the whole gaming industry back in the day. To generalize a little bit; starting with the VIC 20, no one really wanted a console after that for many years. Mattel of course took notice of this and my guess/feel is that the Decade/Intellivision IV would have been a home computer, had they not bowed out… A little (8-)bit off topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWmqoEdjKR4
