Would be happy to if you can tell me how to open these carts without destroying them. Have never risked it since the method is not as straightforward as opening the TI and Romox/Navarone carts.

First set of instructions are perfect. All the other commands listed also work, so definitely the same version. The manual in your second message is an outstanding facsimile of a TI manual, but missed all the number key commands. Thanks for filling them in.

Resurrecting an old thread again as a result of resurrecting an old favorite again. Have been playing Scrabble again recently (TI's is a terrific computer version - especially considering the limited resolution for a board game), but can't for the life of me figure out how to swap tiles. hloberg's terrific manual outlines how to do it with a real Scrabble set, but not in the software. I seem to remember there is a way to do it though (and I can't imagine the programmer's would have missed this inherent part of playing Scrabble.) Any help would be appreciated.

If there is ANYONE in our community that NEVER has to apologize, that person is you! Now get to work on this and stop making excuses! <evil grin>

وشكرا لهذا تلميح كبير (and thank YOU for this great tip) - at least I hope that's what it says! If instead it suggest doing foul things to a goat, I apologize.

VERY impressive results! Don't have a beige console, but I do have other old yellowed plastic items that could use your technique. Hydrogen Peroxide! I'm constantly learning new uses for it!

Doh! That was a slap myself in the head moment.

Wouldn't that be a downgrade from TI Basic?

While I'm sure I would have found the answer if I had taken the time to go through this and other threads on the splitter boards, I still would have probably wanted to have tried it myself (nothing ventured nothing gained), since it would have been so damned handy. Unfortunately as others had suggested, the boards do not allow a nanoPEB and a PEB to be connected simultaneously, even if the nanoPEB is disconnected from a power source. I just get Tursi's F18A green screen. Now, that is not to take away from the usefulness of the boards for folks with more cards than a single PEB can accommodate, and using a nanoPEB was never an intended function. Unfortunately for those of us who would prefer not to continually swap between a nano and an actual PEB (it's gotta be wreaking havoc on the connectors) there still remains no solution besides a second console (or just dumping the nano for an HxC or HDX storage solution). I never expected to use them simultaneously, but hoped I could at least leave them both plugged in with only the active unit powered up. Since others had asked the same question, the can now know that it doesn't work. Forgive the next question if it demonstrates a lack of hardware knowledge, but would it be possible to « barebones » a nanoPEB board, disabling the RS232 / 32K and, using the splitter, have it work simultaneously with a PEB as an additional controller and 3 additional drives??? (I warned it might be a stupid question). Just buying an HxC would probably prove to be less hassle, but I already have a nanoPEB (and you don't want to know the price of a lothrek drive with the current CAD exchange rate!).

Love the retro look! Kudos.

Thanks, no rush. (it was Sneggit that you might have if memory serves) the list has changed considerably, so I just wanted to update it.

So it seems. They are not even listed among some of the TI-released cartridge lists. I sometimes see cartridges I would have thought were more common (Demonstration, Diagnostic and Electrical Engineering for example) posted at what seems like outrageous prices...as it turns out though, they are actually fair prices within the context of their obscurity. Unfortunately, when a collection nears completion (in my case, a single digit count of TI-released cartridges), many of the remaining titles are going to carry exorbitant price tags. Similarly, as my collection nears completion, I find myself far more likely to be willing to pay whatever the seller asks. Dangerous stuff that!

Things found while poking around the Internet -- (TI related)
PeBo replied to Omega-TI's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
"...We no longer believe in the machine, but we want you to..." I bought my 1st 4A very shortly before TI canned it (considering it's too short run, I guess that really, everyone did), and it DID serve me well for a couple years to come - right up until ALL the local software options dried up and I realized my computer hobby was better served joining my friends with 800XL's (and a couple years later, ST's). Atarisoft was the only 3rd part distributor with any real presence up here, so we didn't have the Funwares, Databiotics, Romox and Navarones to keep it going longer. When the TI-distributed software dried up, most stores just dropped everything nearly overnight. You would have thought that TI would have offered these folks the addition of a free Speech Synthesizer, or a few free titles from that "substantial software inventory" to sweeten the sour taste of having been awarded a defunct computer as a carpet purchase bonus, but then again, back then a free computer was a free computer...it was still a rare and novel item in most people's homes... ...and they DID get a machine that they could be very well still using as a hobbyist right now, over 30 years later.(the same probably can't be said for the carpeting) -
Has anyone tested this with a nanoPEB connected but shut off (or unplugged) when using the PEB. Saw the scenario mentioned above, but not sure if it was finallytested. Sure would make switching between them SOOO much easier than swapping them. The boards are cheap enough that I'll probably order one this week anyway...sure to come in handy someday in either case (and if the nanoPEB question remains untested, for $30 (200 million Canadian?)) I'm happy to be the guinea pig.)

Help, My RPG fix is being thwarted!!! Legends II keeps crashing to the *Ready * prompt when I enter a Dungeon, and I have a feeling that it has to do with the way nanoPEB formats it's partitions as I've had similar problems with other software requiring disk access (that work fine under emulation, but not on the real console. Haven't test Legends I, but that's not the one I'm hooked on. Unfortunately I still have no way to copy to floppy from .dsk's (a Lotharek HXC or an HDX modded RS232 has GOT to be my next purchase), so I'm hopping someone could lend an assist with copies of the disks...2x 90k's or 1x DS please, as I'm using a stock TI controller. (I believe disk 3 is only the character convertor, so unneeded for play) I will of course pay for shipping, and more than happy to compensate for the disks/time/effort. Name your (non-ebay) price. Speaking of other software that crashes with the nanoPEB, if someone has a copy of the Spacestation Pheta (among the top 10 TI platformers?? It should be) disk, that would be brilliant too. (from CF, I can only load the first two screens...classic 99 loads em all, so I think it might be the non-standard format again. Thanks in advance for this big ask.

My recent purchase of several dozen manuals (and the acquisition of several more carts) has altered my list considerably, so it is far easier to start anew than to edit/bump the original post. Again, any assistance in completing these sets would be greatly appreciated (as only an addict can truly understand)... Apps: Disk Manager (original not II) Terminal Emulator (original not II) Weight Control and Nutrition Learning/Kids Computer Math Games II, III, VI Division Early Logo Learning Fun Equations Frog Jump Measurement Formulas Multiplication 2 Number Bowling Number Readiness Picture Parts Reading On Story Machine Games: Sneggit (the last game cart left without a manual!) Also looking for Scholastic Spelling Levels 3 through 6. but because of their binder size and the nature of the 'activity' sections of these, I'm sure there are not many out there in decent shape. Figured I'd ask anyway.

I have just one thing to say... Start Your Engines!.mp3

Depends on whether you're a collector or just an enthusiast. Some folks don't even need the disks/cartridges...just an SD or Compact Flash filled with as many titles as they can download is good enough. As long as they're accessible they don't care what physical software they have. Others place a high value on having sealed boxes with all the goodies safe and sound inside, never to be seen by human eyes again. Me, I slice the shrink wrap immediately (shrink wrap damages more frail boxes with time - it's called 'shrink' wrap for a reason), and remove the contents. I figure all cartridges should be plugged in and played at least once - even if I have a digital copy as my primary use version. I also like to display my collection. The carts I then put in an audio-cassette bookcase (found a six-shelf unit from Sauder* that fits EXACTLY 35 carts per shelf like it was made for them). The boxes are displayed in bookcases and wall shelves. Except for TI-branded boxes which are generic and not worth displaying - I really don't even care if I get a box when buying TI released carts (except for the binder-enclosed ones). The manuals and instruction cards are kept in sealed zip-lock bags (bought 1000 6x9 bags in bulk for next to nothing). Most TI manuals are exactly the right size to then be placed in mens' shoeboxes (kinda like a mini version of a comic book store bin). So it all depends on how you view your collection. One thing is certain...paper products NEED to be sealed or they dry out, yellow and eventually fall apart. My mother left me hundreds of 1940's Hit Parader magazines (music fan mags with lyrics of popular songs) but she just kept them stored in boxes. I opened one of those boxes a few months ago, and it was sad how badly these 70-80 year old magazines had disintegrated. They are literally worthless now (pages fall apart in my hands as I flip through), but could have been saved easily by sealing them before boxing them (never assume mother knows best). So if you DO keep manuals, zip-lock (or similar air tight storage) is a must. They might look just a bit yellow after 35 years, but what about in another 35??? *(Sauder is kinda like Ikea except all products are made in North America)

TI Manuals: Free to a loving home - Sorry all gone.
PeBo replied to PeBo's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
Well why do you think they gave me a high-speed desk scanner at work?? Surely they didn't want me to use it for my job!? I'll do the ones I'm keeping, but I don't want to take apart the ones I'm offering here - I'll let the recipients do that if they are so inclined. I think they are all covered by the whtech collection though (albeit, those take a lot more cutting/pasting/collating to turn them back into formatted manuals) I haven't actually seen them yet (they are in transit), but the condition looks good from the photos (except for the hole-punched ones, why would someone do that? Tabarbak!) so I don't want to risk damaging the ones that others will be getting. I'm still kicking myself for ripping a pristine Miner2049 instruction sheet (got caught in the feeder) from my last batch of scans. -
TI Manuals: Free to a loving home - Sorry all gone.
PeBo replied to PeBo's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
Sorry, they were gone through pm's the first night. But a handful of manuals got into a handful of loving homes, so my job is done. My manual wish-list is still quite long (for an unpopular category, educational manuals are friggin' hard to find - way harder than the games). Buying manuals in bulk and giving away the ones I don't need is probably my best bet, so I'll be doing this again as soon as I find someone else clearing out a bunch. So with luck there will be another batch in the future. Cheers PeBo -
Sorry. Dey be gone.... To acquire a handful of manuals I needed, I bought a bulk of ones I didn't need. So I'm making the spares/duplicates available here for the price of postage. They are: Frogger Qbert Alpiner The Attack (classic /4 graphics) Blackjack and Poker Car Wars (classic /4 graphics) Football (classic /4 graphics) Hangman (note: this manual has been hole-punched for a binder (idiots!)) Hunt the Wumpus (classic /4 graphics) Munchman (re-release /4A graphics) Parsec Super Demon Attack Tombstone City (classic /4 graphics) TI Invaders (re-release /4A graphics) Video Games 1 (note: this manual has been hole-punched for a binder (idiots!)) Addition Addition & Subtraction 1 (classic /4 graphics) Adventure (classic /4 graphics) Alien Addition Early Reading (classic /4 graphics) Minus Mission Touch Typing Tutor Home Financial Decision (classic /4 graphics) Personal Record Keeping (classic /4 graphics) I know first hand how hard it is to find manuals sometimes (albeit most of these are pretty easy to find), so please don't say you want them all just to flip 'em on ebay (gawd I hate that). I'm giving them away for free a day after I paid for them so that folks who might need one or more of them can check them off their wish list, not so someone can make a quick buck. I got the ones that I needed, so I'm sharing the rest. Please make your requests within the spirit of the offer. Cheers.

Always looking for something, but now I am frustratingly close to completing the TI-labelled collection, and trying to avoid the sometimes outrageous eBay pricing for the educational category titles. Looking for: PHM3005 Video Graphs PHM3084 Computer Math Games I PHM3085 Computer Math Games III PHM3144 Early Logo Learning Fun PHM3092 Multiplication (Milliken) - not to be confused with SF's Multiplication 1 (PHM3029) PHM3101 Measurement Formulas (Milliken) PHM3097 Percents PHM3098 Number Readiness (Milliken) PHM3157 Soundtrack Trolley (MBX - with overlay please) PHM3185 Word Radar (DLM) - Does this even exist?? Manuals would save me looking later, but not a deal breaker. Shipping to Canada (easy peasy USPS 1st Class Int'l - no duty on used software imports, so entirely hassle free) Lightning fast payment.

Looking for the following which, I believe, were only release in Europe (at least I can't find hide nor hair of them on this side of the pond). They are: « Individual Accounting » (aka Buschungsjournal) (PHM3066) and « TI-Calc » (PHM3213) Also looking for the domestic carts: « Demonstration » (PHM3001) and « Diagnostics » (PHM3000), but at a price that won't force me to take out a second mortgage. TIA PeBo
