  1.

On a another topic... when I went for my manuals, I found my missing CF card reader that I recently replaced. :skull:

Thanks brother, but really, the lay-out is stolen directly from the Atari 800 manual, I just changed the colour (black backgrounds are so 1980) and the « ATARI 400/800 » to « Texas Instruments TI99/4A ». If it's a fantastic cover, kudos should go to the original designer. I am simply a thief.

And just wait until you get to be my age... I can lose my CF reader (and everything else on my desk) without even leaving my chair! The sad thing is I keep my desk clean and tidy, it is my brain that has become disorganized!

  2. This last scan is a curiosity more than anything. It is the front cover only for the never released Submarine Commander from Thorn EMI.

I created it for use with K.C.'s excellent manual (which needed no improvement) using the manual covers from other systems as the template. Unfortunately I can't find the original PS file, so I had to scan it instead.

I figure the manual itself is easy to find, but I think folks will like this cover (especially if output to a semi-lustre photo paper - Schweet!)

  3. These are the last of my DBT manuals (until some kind soul wants to sell / donate to me all my missing DBT games)

Please note that the BOXER manual is not an original, although it IS what came with the cart I bought.

The front/back cover is likely a scan of the original, the inside was obviously created using a modern proportional font, unlike the fixed width daisy-wheel print-out of all other DBT manuals.

I included it anyway figuring that it's better than nothing until someone posts an original replacement.

I'll start working on the multi-page manuals next week (as requested at 600 dpi).

    2 questions...

First, schmitzi, would you be offended if I posted an alternative Munchman II manual?? Mine has an orange card-stock cover (it uses a scan of the artwork from the newer 4A Munchman manual) and a very cool sans-serif font. I don't know if it's original, but it IS first-generation print quality and not a scan (except the front cover art).

Second, should I scan the Atarisoft instruction sheets, or does everyone already have authentic ones? (They seem to be pretty common)

  4. PeBo very nice the scans, just because I can use them for sharing on my website too if you want, could you scan them at 600dpi please ? :P ...if not, no problems I just will have to scans them again from mine a day

When I get past the DBT manuals (I only have a few left in my collection :() I will be scanning at 600 DPI.

Databiotics manuals' original print quality was very « in-house » when they were created (probably nowhere close to 600 DPI) , so I saw no output advantage scanning these in higher resolutions. It would be like re-encoding a vhs tape at 720p (Garbage in-Garbage out, as they say).

And yes, please post these on ti99iuc.it (or anywhere else you like). The point of posting them here is to get them « out there », since these particular cartridges are now often sold without manuals.

  5. hmm, yes, really good question. I thought this is for this keyboard-overlays and Ref-Cards only, not for manuals.

Why restrict posts to certain classes of printables?? After all folks could argue that keyboard overlays and reference cards should be posted elsewhere using the same argument.

When I go searching for manuals and other TI paraphernalia I find links to several sites... 99er.net TI-99/4A Videogame House and others. Among them, atariage always turns up. So if the point of the exercise is to make these documents available to the community as a whole - old farts and newbies alike - these forums are an ideal choice.

Personally, I was just happy to find the subject line, because I've wanted somewhere to post scans of a few of the harder to find docs, and was glad the thread was started.

  6. Sorry... but for what is this place good for?

Strips, Reference Cards, Manuals, Labels and more! (HQ)

And why not collecting all that material at really one place, such the WHtech FTP-Server is? :?

Why bother having multiple TI-community sites/forums/repositories if everything is going to be posted in one place?

I just find atariage hosts a much more interactiveTI community than most web options, so I prefer to post things here for people I « know » (virtually speaking). Anyone can feel free to grab stuff from this thread and post them anywhere they'd like, so if you think these collections are better suited to WHtech, go ahead, post them there too.

One thing to keep in mind...someone new to the 21st century TI-community is going to use Google to find info. That search will most likely lead people here first. It wasn't until I found the atariage forums that I deiscovered that WHtech FTP even existed. So really, where better to post things than the first place people will find????

  7. I'll start scanning some 3rd party manuals.

DataBiotics game manuals are like Atarisoft manuals (actually they're nothing like Atarisoft manuals except they are both single sheets of paper), I'll do those first.

But when I start on multi-page manuals (Parker Bros etc) I'll be posting ready-for-print/re-assembly scans. Note that this will make reading the pdf nearly impossible on-screen (or at least a pain in the tush)

The resulting pdf will contain (12 page example)...

    8.5 x 11 landscape @ 300dpi:

    Sheet 1: page 12 / page 1 backed by page 2 / page 11

    Sheet 2: page 10 / page 3 backed by page 4 / page 9
    Sheet 3: page 8 / page 5 backed by page 6 / page 7

Bear with me though, I have a painfully slow old flatbed scanner, so I might only do a couple a day.

here are the first couple single sheets anyway (note I didn't do any post-scan cleaning so they are presented in all their faded/bent/folded/mutilated glory)

  8. Well darn it all to heck (the words mumbled to myself were far less family-friendly)

I was hoping Jetpac would work under Turbo Forth 1.2.1, (even though the first post DID made it clear it req'd 1.2.2) but alas, I guess will have to replace the eprom after all.

Guess I knew I'd have to do it sooner or later, but looks like Jetpac will have to wait (on the console anyway) a couple weeks.

  9. Okay, a lot of us here at Atari Age could be considered 'hard core" TI'ers. That got me wondering how many of us here are hoarders.... make that 'collectors', or just someone who feels more comfortable with a backup of two, three or more.... ;)

no, make that « Enthusiast » please... "Collector" is still pretty much an addict, and I would prefer to remain in blissful denial...

And while I do have only one PEB (shipping costs being the primary reason), I DO also have a nanoPEB... So is that 1½ PEBs?

(if there's anyone in the GTA that has one or more for sale, my quantity could increase PDQ!)

  10. thanks to everyone who mentioned I was manual hunting, but unfortunately I only need one of the manuals pictured (Multiplication 1), and I've already committed to snatch that one from someone. So if anyone wants/needs these, go for it.

Scary that I have all those already. Although it is nice to have a hobby system where collecting ALL of the « house-branded » software with manuals is so darned doable.

  11. If no one on these forums has any of these, would appreciate being pointed in the right direction to find them (or instructions on how to navigate the Best Electronics site to actually BUY something (or even FIND CX10 parts)!)

    I am looking for:

    - Replacement springs (x5) for a CX10 Heavy Sixer (will take larger quantity if required)

    - Plastic board (not sure what it's called) that CX10 springs fit into and that covers the PCB to depress the metal domes. (x1)

    - Button springs (x2) for CX40

    - Replacement posts ((white post with ring on bottom that slides inside the rubber sleeve (x4)) for CX40

And if someone has one for sale(ya right)... a beige (grey?) CX40 as released with the XE game console.

    Will require shipping to Canada.

  12. Hardcopy? (then maybe via ebay)

Softcopy? (then look at IUC TI-99/4A Italian user club, Ciro is archiving many items, including manuals)

and I believe FTP.WHTECH has many manuals online as well, and there are more locations where softcopy

    manuals are located.

I have the full collection of TI-branded manuals in digital format, but those are just methadone...

Looking for the originals to satisfy my voracious collector addiction. (which, like any addiction, is never satisfied by substitutes)

  13. Are increases coming to Priority Mail Int'l as well as 1st Class??

Although the new prices are nasty, 1st Class Int'l still remains a relatively affordable shipping method between he US and Canada - until you get into heavier weights (glad I don't need a PEB right now!).

eBay now defaults to the GSP when sellers create auctions/ads, and most don't know how/don't want to change it to straight USPS. The GSP uses Priority Mail, then ads it's value-based brokerage fees (most often completely bogus for shipments to Canada where NAFTA negates duties on vintage/used soft/hardware). These inappropriate fees double the cost of shipping on any item over $30, so if Priority Mail is going up too, Ebay gets taken off the table as a viable source for a vintage tech enthusiasts in Canada (who are already reeling from a reduced-commodity-price dollar)

Shipping + GSP fees for something as light as a single cartridge will cost $30-$50. Folks, at markets close on Friday that was $45 to $70 Canadian!! (if it's something like Espial or Arcturus where the bids always hit triple digits, you can double or triple the bogus GSP fees!!)

I never liked ebay or it's pseudo-auction model, but it is one of the few buy&sell sites where Canadian hobbyist can find a wide array of TI paraphernalia, and until now I've been willing to pay a premium for access to the large selection.

Bottom line is that while the increases in 1st Class Int'l are huge, they are still a bargain in comparison to the cost of shipping using eBay's now ubiquitous GSP!

ATTN: All Canadian 99ers (especially those east of Saskatchewan)!!!... You're bored with this hobby, your wives want their sewing rooms back, and you could use some extra beer money. It's time to grown up and get rid of your collections once and for all (and sell them to me).

  14. When I put an AMD video card (that I had just taken out of my PC) in my powerPC Mac several years ago, was it still a Mac? (ignoring the question of course, of whether a PowerPC was really a Mac in the first place - ugly grey boxes that they were)

I would say that as far as new-fangled gadgets are concerned, the F18A leaves the basic experience of using an original era 4A far more intact (albeit the added niceties), than something like a nanoPEB or, lotharek or even an uberGrom cart!

Let's face it, a 4A with an XB2.7 cart and a nanoPEB attached bears very little similarity to the experience of using a 4A in the 80's.

  15. Looking for the following TI software Manuals/instruction sheets...

    TI branded:

    - Alligator Mix

    - Equations

    - Computer Math Games II

    - Facemaker

    - Multiplication 1

    - Story Machine

    - Reading Flight

    - Reading On

    - Reading Roundup

    - Scholastic Spelling 3

    - Scholastic Spelling 5

    - Sneggit

    - Fathom

    - Weight Control and Nutrition

Now the ones that people are less likely to give up if they have them (but figure I'd better ask anyway)...

Scott Foresman White Label (looking for color graphic covers, not the generic white covers)

    - Number Bowling

    - Frog Jump

    Funware:

    - Henhouse

    - Driving Demon

    Atarisoft:

    - Jungle Hunt

    - PacMan

I'm in Canada, so take that into consideration if you feel uncomfortable shipping across the border (not as uncomfortable, I'd wager, as I feel at paying the outrageous exchange rates of late)

  16. Memory could be an issues, but each level could be a separate program that loads the next from disk upon completion (yes, intervals would be s-l-o-w as molasses!), and access common score/data files from disc with each new level/game loaded.

    I never say never anymore...

...Rasmus reminds us repeatedly that the word « impossible » should NOT be in the vocabulary of 21st century 4A users!!

  17. Last year, when I rekindled my 99 affections, it was a really pleasant surprise to discover that 3 of my favorite 8-bit era games had indeed been ported to the TI (Jumpman, Bounty
Bob and Lode Runner(albeit a clone rather than a port). I don't think these were ever released North of 49 back in the day, but even if they were, I didn't come to learn of their existence until 2015.

With Parker Brothers, Atarisoft and DBT, many popular 8-bit era titles made the cross-over from Atari to TI, but are there gaping holes you wish would have been filled along the way?

    So my question is:

Choosing from oiginal era Atari 8-bit games (NOT ports of arcade titles) which three would you call the most « missing » from the TI game library

My personal #1 would be Galaxian, but that was an arcade game, so my top 3...

    wish%2Blist.jpg

(3 was a toss up between Spelunker and Montezuma Revenge, but in a play-off this week-end among friends, Montezuma won out by a narrow margin, so it made it to my TI wish list)

  18. I have to agree that Aperture is outstanding.

I posted a message here as a joke one day (in answer to a thread concerning which games we'd like to see ported to the good ol' 99), saying I would like to see a TI version of Portal.

What I didn't expect was reply telling me that such a beast actually existed...and in TI-Basic no less!!

Honourable mention should go out to Not-Polyoptics who released several commercial(!) TI-Basic proggies, the best off which (IMHO) was « Khe Sanh, Guerilla War in VietNam », an engaging miltary strategy game

Slow screen-draws aside, it's easy to forget you're playing a game written in TI-basic (although I still laugh at the manual cover which states "No Peripherals Needed" (The game came on a disk, obviously requiring a disk drive!))
