  1. Thanks Bro! I'm going to be off work for a couple months again soon ("we have the technology, we can rebuild him" - or so the doctors keep telling me), so I'll try to participate more in the coming months. Obviously I just couldn't live without you guys!
  2. As long as he doesn't try to use the CALL CHIME command. It doesn't work. (Sorry, I couldn't resist)
  3. Ya, long time no talk, but moving right along.... Noticed some strangeness recently...not sure when it started happening. None of XB2.7's CALLs are working....not CALL CAT, or CALL CHIME OR CALL «gamename» etc. Also the CF7/NanoPEB CALL MOUNT (which still works on the regular XB cart and TI BASIC) seems fried as well. Not only do they not work, but trying to use them locks the system (no FCN QUIT only power off/on) All the standard XB CALL commands (SAY, LINK, LOAD etc) work. I have tried using CALL commands with the nanoPEB OR the PEB attached - makes no difference. I installed an F18A, last week, but I really can't say if that's when things stopped working (and the installation went off without a hitch), but everything was cool and groovy until recently. Noticed it first with CALL MOUNT, but since that works in TI-Basic, I wasn't concerned. Just noticed yesterday that all the new CALLS (and CALL MOUNT) are effected Using OPEN #1/INPUT works, as does OLD DSK. Has anyone experienced anything similar???? I have version 2 of 2.7 (black border/green screen FCN AID) if that helps.
  4. booted up last night, the 32K card's LED stayed lit, and nothing requiring the memory expansion would load. Not having the expertise to effect repairs on such a board (maybe a vintage computing hobby has not my best choice), I'm looking for a replacement. Would have prefered waiting until the Canadian $ rebounded (currently sitting at just above 75¢), but the death of this card has put a dead stop on a couple projects, and I would like to replace it asap. If some kind soul has an extra working card where price and shipping won't break the bank, would love to hear back. Additionally, if anyone might like to have this dead card to either resurrect or use for parts, it's yours. TIA PeBo
  5. Thanks KL, but I have no way to use it. I simply don't have the technical know-how to use it. (Gotta get myself a Gram-Kracker or P-Gram card one of these days.) I see it is one of the eproms Bob Carmany has listed, so I'll just add it to the list of items I plan to speak to him about. The offer is greatly appreciated though.
  6. merde! if that isn't one of the coolest things I've read in a month of Sundays, I don't know what is!! Just tested it in Classic99 and I can't believe that this version exists! Jumpman (and it's variants), along with Shamus & Miner2049er, are my top 3 "one red button" games (with Lode Runner* and Cpt Beeble pulling up the rear in 4th and 5th place). The fact that I can now play all three of my top 3 on my beloved 99 is beyond exciting. (Looks like I'll be calling in sick tomorrow!) Also really appreciate the Junkman link CSchneider, but the one included in that thread is the one with faulty rope climbing. Although it WAS a thread I had not seen on the subject, so certainly not a wasted read. Several threads on a single game....'twould seem I'm not alone in my love for it. *(best Lode Runner (IMHO) is the AtariST's Runner's Revenge in all it's monochrome splendour!)
  7. I know it's been asked before, but in searching through those threads I didn't see a solution posted (of course there may not BE a solution, but since "JuMPman is one of my favorite games of all time, thought I'd ask about getting this this stellar clone to work). The disk based cart-rip of Junkman Jr. that I have runs 95% perfectly. The problem is that the 5% that doesn't work are the up-ropes (the litle fella just can't climb 'em!*), making the game virtually impossible to play with much success. This quirk only exists on the rip not on the cartridge. *(and yup, Alphalock is off) The disk based version I have has a title screen that reads "Broken version by The Master" (a partiicularly appropriate descriptor). So my question is... Is this the only disk version that exists?? I ask because I have several disk based games that differ in functionality from the command module version (no doubt as a side effect of "cracking"), while I have other copies of the same games that run perfectly. For example, I have disk rips of MoonMine and Buck Rogers that have no speech, while I have other disk copies that DO have speech. Seems to be luck of the draw. So I am wondering if there might be an actual disk version of Junkman Jr out there where the up ropes DO work??? In the long run, I'll get a "hummingbird" copy down the road (unless (hint hint) someone has an original DataBioTics cart they'd like to sell), but it would be nice to be able to download a copy that works beforehand.
  8. Thanks for this. I am completely unfarmiliar with this game (regardless of the version), and it's always nice to have a "new" game try out!
  9. and my comment was completely correct within that context. One would think (at least in my sense of logic) that those looking to follow the development of a particular game would look first in a programming area and that the developers would already be regular contributors there. If folks can't find a thread on something that interests them when there are only two places to look, then we have more to worry about than context appropriate thread placement. (But I don't have to worry about cleaning up one of those places, which would put a different perspective on things)
  10. Is it possible to develop software without programming?? The answer to that question should make the placement of development threads a no-brainer.
  11. Hardware: Get an F18A installed in the spare console. In my PEB, want to install a SID Master 99 card (for a bit of Commie-style audio sweetness), HDX my RS232, and replace Drive 1 with a Lothrex HxC. Software: Complete my boxed collections of Atarisoft (still looking for Jungle Hunt and Pac Man), and Parker Bros (need Q*bert) and try to find a few of the less common DataBioTics carts... Also have to speak to the talented Mr Carmany about a few Eproms for titles that are just not available through any other sources (the 'no up-rope' Junkman disk version is frustrating as hell, and desperately need a Robotron fix!). Basically, if I can run something under Classic 99, I want a copy I can run on my REAL console. Somehow, I want to do all of the above AND curb the flow of cash bleeding into this money-pit of a hobby (still the first few months of getting back into this, so stands to reason that there's been rampant spending, but it's got to stop - and soon!!! (Unless someone wants to buy a late middle-aged used wife - I'll throw in a massive shoe collection at no extra charge.) Projects: More than anything, I want to become more familiar with TurboForth (fascinates the hell out of me), and would like to revive a couple programs I wrote in XBasic 30 years ago (wish I wouldn't have sold my disks with the system back in the day) and maybe this time (if stupidity and senility doesn't get in the way) take advantage of the hardware by coding them in Assembly (very simple stuff to start, since I never tackled learning assembly back first time around!) or Forth. I sincerely hope this old dog can still learn a few new tricks! I bought my original TI to teach myself programming, this time around I am doing far too little of that, so 2015 is my year to turn that around.
  12. There are all kinds of computers and devices that do useful stuff...and they seem to be turning the entire population of the planet into screen-glow zombies who, it would seem, can no longer do useful stuff themselves. So, the next time your friend says that your vintage computer can't do anything useful, might I suggest you tell him that it does something VERY useful. Something current tech fails miserably at... It makes you use your brain.
  13. Sort of off topic, but on topic in a nanoPEB/CF7 thread... Plugging the CF card into my PC the other day it struck me that this is the only card I have, and any one of a myriad of mishaps could wipe it accidentally. A lot of work goes into filling/cataloguing one of these things, and I'd hate to lose everything is there a utility available to format a CF for use with a nanoPEB so I could have a backup should one bite the dust, or would I have to go back to Custodio and have him send me a spare. I know he mentions which cards he thinks are the best, but can't seem to find anything on intiliazing a second card. Thought I might find something in TI99Dir, but it onlt seems to deal with individual volumes and disks not the card as a whole. Guess I could have asked Custodio this in the first place, but I figure I'm in this thread, so I may as well ask here and now (and in 10 minutes from now I'll forget to remember to ask - gotta love late middle-age brain farts)
  14. Why would anyone be so cruel? You do less harm to your body smoking a pack a day for a year, than using a TI joystick for a full game of Shamus!
  15. why would that be? ...one is SIO and one is PIO but aside from that, aren't they pretty much the same device?
  16. Now there's a review that I am waiting to read with baited breath!!!! and um, where does one acquire such a thing (not that I need any new suppliers with which to spend even MORE money!) Although the splitter would still not assist in moving files from the CF to a real disk, it WOULD be nice to have both the PEB and nanoPEB connected at the same time and selectable.
  17. Excellent, just like last time. look forward to next month!
  18. That's exactly why I avoided calling these high priced listing "outlandish" as I normally would where other sellers are concerned, and asked whether the prices seemed correct. As I said, I've been collecting several Adventure series tapes and disks (mainly from atariage users - and granted with the generic TI manuals and packaging) for next to nothing (and often, actually "nothing"), and so $127 CAD took me by surprise (jaw-dropping shock actually). But I know the seller's reputation is solid, so I asked what other thought of the price for these particular titles within the context of "collecting". Way outside of my snack bracket regardless...(I gulped when I paid $40 for Centipede)
  19. I have my trusty dremel out and am working on making a case from an old aluminium cigarette box (which just happens to fit perfectly) but there's no getting around the fact that including a 'good quality' case with the base device could easily double the price. And you'd still be buying a device where you have to pick up the power supply separately. I'd rather keep the price low (I still shake my head at how inexpensive these things are) and see a functional usb port added (I'm fine with the compact flash - they're still pretty easy to find at better camera shops, and all my pc's have add-on front panel port for any flash device including CF's). What I would say is a MUST-HAVE addition would be pass-through expansion port functionality...I should be able to connect my real PEB to the CF7/nanoPEB and simply make use of whichever one is powered up (or even better, have the CF card's DSK1 function as DSK3 when a real PEB is connected, to facilitate copying from CF directly to floppy (à la HxC)...that coupled with an HDX modded rs232 card would create infinite storage possibilities and ultimate compatibilty with files stored on my PCs. The current complications of hooking both a nanoPEB and a real PEB at the same time remain my biggest pet pieve, and so addressing this and providing hassle free dual functionailty would be the top of my wish list for what is otherwise a pretty damned awesome device.
  20. and that's correct. but there should be a pop-up that appears over the blank page...which makes me ask... Do you have pop-up's blocked by default? If so you'd never see the pop up (possibly everyone's problem???)
  21. It would have been more impressive (IMHO) to have reduced the size of the case instead of trying to make it look 'similar' (kinda) in size and shape to the original console. Looks like it could have been a tiny unit! If it was a little set top box that looked nothing like a Colecovision, one probably wouldn't expect as much. Are the controllers at least decent? From everything I've read, here and elsewhere, about the flaskback machines though, they sound more like something a non-enthusiast would buy an enthusiast as an "Oh he'll freak" Xmas or birthday present (I have a closet full of such unused gadgets). Thanks for providing the xray-vision into one of these...are the 2600 units more of the same?
  22. Thanks to years of using emulators, I have a complete collection of the Scott Adam's and Questprobe Adventure series, but like everything else TI related, I am trying to get copies of originals where I can... I've found a few sources of tapes and disks and prices have been VERY reasonable so far (ranging from free to $5 a title). Then yesterday I saw these ads... - Buckaroo Banzai (disk) - Spiderman (disk) - The Hulk (disk) - Sorcerer of Claymorgue (tape) and gained a new appreciation of how little I've been paying... even so, $122 with shipping ???? (in the US - nearly $200 on this side of the border) Is that really what these are worth nowadays or has pot been legalized in Iowa? Just curious, because sometimes prices seem outrageous but turn out to be dead on within collector circles. (Is it even wise to buy sealed 30 year old magnetic media? Is there not a distinct possibility that these could be degaussed by now? Or is physical ownership so valuable that such things don't matter?)
  23. What browser are you using? I got in with both Chrome on my tablet and Firefox on my PC. (although the download never completed on the tablet) Chrome asked for both the usename (guest...) and password, while the Firefox promptbox already had the username, and I only had to enter « TI99/4A ».
  24. First, Thank you soooo much Vorticon for updating the password. This is easily one of the best TI related archivess I've ever d/l'ed. (just shy of the ti gameshelf complete software archive, which will probably remain permantly at the #1 spot) Now the request... Does anyone have a 300dpi scan of the Parker Bros' Popeye instruction sheet (or even better, an orginal 'manual' to sell?????). I acquired a boxed cartridge recently, but it did not include a manual. Hate being anal like this, but the package just feels naked without it. If I printed a decent quality scan on 12m glossy, it would somehow seem better than just having the cartridge in the box. (of course a REAL manual would be the full can of spinach)
