  1. I use my FG99 or Lotherek HDX-SC floppy emulator for most things. I had them all set up before I got my TIPI, so really haven't put much on the TIPI yet. I prefer the FG99 because it is so easy to use. I'll drag the occasional new file to the TIPI, but if there is a FG99 version I'll use that instead.
  2. I thought the same thing, which is why I picked an older style one when I got mine. Of course, TI being TI, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a random assortment of transformers in boxes from around the changeover between the old one and the new one.
  3. Interesting: "Additionally someone also asked Lee why they decided to put a fuse for the PEB power supply inside the transformer? Lee said "it was a dumb idea" but also added that it kept the consumers from putting a fuse that was not rated for the system in the unit thus bypassing the safety that the fuse they had in it." http://www.texndixie.com/lubbock.htm
  4. Well, the symptoms sure sound like a transformer fuse. No idea if all of the PEBs have them or not though. http://www.mainbyte.com/ti99/peb_pow/peb_pow.html
  5. I did the install, and I checked my cable to make sure it was the right one, but I am still having issues. I am starting to wonder if there is something wrong with the modem port on the IIc.
  6. This is really awesome. I noticed it on the Spectrum Computing Forum. I got into the ZX Spectrum because of Rasmus’ ports of speccy games to the ti, so it is neat to see a game going the other way!
  7. I reflashed and retried about half a dozen times last week with the same problems, then went back to the old version. I haven’t tried upgrading since then.
  8. My pi zero w is powered on its own with an “official” raspberry pi power supply that came with it and I keep it powered on all the time, but I had the weird CRU 2000 issue and whatnot.
  9. I'm getting "no bootable device" from that copy. I tried a couple different versions of ProTerm, including 2.0 and 1.9, but still get the same thing where it hangs up on initializing the modem. It hangs even if the modem is unplugged. I never get a message that ProTerm was unable to initialize the modem.
  10. Nope, it hangs at this screen. Maybe I am underestimating how long it takes to try initializing... I’ve let it sit for as long as 15 minutes before giving up.
  11. modem still won’t initialize. I’m staring to wonder about the modem cable I bought. Does anyone have a pinout for a IIc modem cable?
  12. I am not having much luck getting my new WiModem232 to initialize with my Apple IIc . I’m using pro term 3.1, and am following the manual and these instructions https://www.cbmstuff.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=477 300 baud - Apple 300 baud driver Init string - ATX1&C0&S1 But no luck, ProTerm gets stuck at “initializing modem” Anyone know how to get one of these things working on a IIc?
  13. I don’t have a QI ti. The system was running perfectly for months until the 2.0 update.
  14. I was noticing the same thing with my setup (tipi in PEB) when I tried 2.0 and up ... lock ups, CRU randomly changes to 2000. I could still SSH into the PI, but I couldn’t access it from the ti anymore. The only thing that would temporarily fix it was reflashing, but I kept having problems so now I am back at 1.43 for now. It crashed in the middle of a multiple hour update to 1.6, and I haven’t had time to try updating it again. I have a pi zero and a SAMS card.
  15. For me the fun in vintage computing is playing with old hardware. I'm not a purist, and quite happily upgrade my machines and use modern peripherals. I keep some floppies and tapes around for nostalgia's sake, but run everything off of a more modern storage system. I rarely use emulators as I find using old software through emulation to be boring. So what if a powerful modern machine can run ancient primitive programs? No fun in that for me. The systems I use in emulation are ones I don't own and am unlikely to.
  16. 1 and 2 are common occurrences in the vintage computer hobby. I end up getting things because I eventually will need it or want it because you never know when there won't be another change.
  17. I need more practice! I keep getting myself in a spot where if I crash into something, because the game re-spawns the ship almost where it last crashed, I keep instantly crashing after re-spawn until all my ships are gone.
  18. Yep, I’ve been eyeing those. That one doesn’t ship to Canada though. One went for over CAN$300 last week on eBay. After shipping it would have been close to CAN$400. Too much for me for something that is just cool to have. One of these days....
  19. I finally got one of my “grail” items... a genuine ti color monitor! I’ve been looking for one of those for years. The screen is a fair bit smaller than the CRT tv I was using, but boy is the picture nice.
  20. Well, I definitely improved, but 6210 is as good a score as I can post before tomorrow as I won’t have another chance to play.
  21. I have had the same ebay searches for years to find ti99 related equipment, and they have always returned pretty well only ti99 equipment. Since yesterday my ebay saved search feed has been completely overwhelmed by ti calculators. I don't know if ebay changed the search algorithm or what, but it is annoying. They are all from different sellers, so it is not someone spamming the system. Anyone else notice a change to their search feeds recently?
  22. Yup. I got from my desk from my dad, and it was old when he got it in university. Can’t beat solid wood.
  23. I use a big antique oak office chair in my home office. Stylish, comfortable, and as it has already lasted 90 years it should outlast me! As a bonus I got it free at my university 25 years ago when they were dumpstering all the solid wood antique office furniture so they could replace it all with modern crap.
