Our Sinclair: A ZX Spectrum Podcast
fimbulvetr replied to BoatofCar's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
Awesome! Im just getting into the speccy myself, and it is a fun machine. I picked up a grey 128 +2 which just uses a 9v wall wart for power. A little-known secret for other North Americans who are interested in trying it out but are intimidated by the PAL only video . . . a lot of lcd monitors and teevees do both NTSC and PAL and switch automatically. Just plug and play! -
Yeah, I was seriously tempted but shipping to Canada was nuts and Ive spent too much on this hobby lately to justify a collectors item.

ti-99/4, no a, buy it now for $75 https://www.ebay.ca/itm/vintage-texas-instruments-ti-99-4-home-computer/123661334361

33!

The switches go to the fuse, so it turns the power on and off for each socket.

This thing was up on eBay briefly today... Game Machine Expansion Module by Parsec Research for Texas Instruments TI-99/4A https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Game-Machine-Expansion-Module-by-Parsec-Research-for-Texas-Instruments-TI-99-4A/264197017276 Anyone have a clue what it is? I thought it might be a cartridge port expander, but it has a bunch of chips and a large looking fuse.

Looking forward to this! Message sent!

Huh. Someone has but up disassembled source code for Alley Cat on github. One of these days Im going to have to teach myself programming and figure out how to port the thing https://github.com/gabonator/Work-in-progress/tree/master/DosGames/AlleyCat

I bought one of the cartridges. It is a fantastic game! I am always happy to support the hard work people put into creating great games like this. Thank-you!
-
This is an awesome game! Thanks!
-
I just downloaded and tried it out the other day, and you are right, they did an excellent job on that game. It is surprisingly well done and fun.

How about Fix-It Felix Jr.?
-
Yeah, I love space shooters, but I would prefer something like Bosconian or Juno First.
-
I would love to see Alley Cat on the ti.

High Score Competition (May: Junkman Junior)
fimbulvetr replied to arcadeshopper's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
Yup. Waiting for the dang elves and hearing that song every time you screw up is just cruel and unusual punishment. My high score was 380. I had to blow off some steam by shooting things in Parsec for a while after playing this. -

Power switch for the Spectrum 128+2(B)?
fimbulvetr replied to MSuomi's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
Oh yeah. I forgot the 128 +2a and +2b have the different power supply.. I have a 128 +2 (the grey one) which has the old single 9v power supply. -
Power switch for the Spectrum 128+2(B)?
fimbulvetr replied to MSuomi's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
You can certainly buy in-line power switches for the spectrum, like this: http://www.mutant-caterpillar.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?products_id=3991 I havent seen instructions on how to add one to the case either. Should be pretty simple. -
Mine doesnt work either. The fingerboard doesnt like to line up correctly, so on the reare occasion when I have gotten it working even the slightest movement will mess it up.

What will be your Fall/Winter project for the TI?
fimbulvetr replied to Omega-TI's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
My winter project is to build a place where I can permenantly set up my retro computers, instead of just having them heaped on the floor or a corner of my work bench. -
The cf7 manager is installed on the first disk volume of the compact flash, and it is autostart as you remember.
-
The correct way to mount the disk would be in basic, use the command CALL MOUNT(1,1) then restart extended basic. The first number is the disk to mount (DSK1, DSK2, or DSK3) the second number is the volume you are mounting.
