The cf7 has 32k ram on-board. Are you trying to use it at the same time as your other 32k expansion?

High Score Competition (May: Junkman Junior)
fimbulvetr replied to arcadeshopper's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
I finally got my ti set up and have been playing this. It is quite a bit harder, and I think bit faster, than the Spectrum version. Gonna take me a while to get decent scores on this one! -
High Score Competition (May: Junkman Junior)
fimbulvetr replied to arcadeshopper's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
So all my ti stuff is still in storage due to a year of renovations on my house . . . they are finally done, so hopefully I can get my machine set back up before the end of the month. However, thanks to this and all the other fantastic games Rasmus has ported from the ZX Spectrum, I recently picked up a ZX Spectrum +2. Ive been having a lot of fun playing around with it . . . what a shame it never really made it over to North America. Here is my high score so far on that machine! -
Just picked up a Mac SE
fimbulvetr replied to ColorComputerStore's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
Nah, that is fine. Bad caps give much different symptoms. Check out 68kmla.org. . . . You can adjust the picture if you are comfortable with messing with pots and have plastic screwdrivers to do the job. -
I recently imported a grey ZX Spectrum 128k +2 to Canada. It has composite out (PAL, of course), can use a standard 9v dc power supply (negative tip), and runs like a charm on an old 19 Sony led tv I had sitting around... it is my understanding that most modern led flat screens can take PAL, NTSC, or SECAM in the composite in. Plus, the built in tape deck on the +2 is great. I got the dc power supply from China off eBay for $8 shipped. I have a bodged together video cable right now, but Ive ordered a nice professionally made one from these guys.... https://coolnovelties.co.uk/coolnovelties/sinclair-zx-spectrum/299-sinclair-spectrum-128-2-grey-model-rca-audio-video-cable.html. You should check the manual for your tv, you may be pleasantly surprised by what it can display.

B&W Mac to play around with: Mac SE or Classic II

And, of course, a real compact mac looks super cool. -
B&W Mac to play around with: Mac SE or Classic II
fimbulvetr replied to BydoEmpire's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
Why? Because it is fun!!! It is a hobby! Hobbies don't need justification. And there is a significant difference between using old hardware and emulating software on a modern computer. The experience of old keyboards, mice, tiny b&w screen, floppy drive, sound of the hardware, etc of using a real compact mac cannot be replaced with emulation. I mean, you might as well ask why eat good food when a bland meal supplement will provide all required nutrients. Why drive a manual sports car when a cheap basic compact will get you from point a to b. It is the experience! -
B&W Mac to play around with: Mac SE or Classic II
fimbulvetr replied to BydoEmpire's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
Of course, as you already have the floppy emu, you can use it in HD20 mode with an SE, which is really fantastic, and you can emulate 800K floppies if you can't find a SuperDrive version. -
B&W Mac to play around with: Mac SE or Classic II
fimbulvetr replied to BydoEmpire's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
SE's are the most reliable of the compact macs, and rarely need any work. A Classic II is absolutely guaranteed to need a recap. That said, I prefer my SE/30 to either of the others (I have all three), but they are pricey and also must be recapped. If you don't mind the limitations of the SE, it is the best starter compact mac as they are cheap, easy to find, and reliable. Look for a SuperDrive version so you can use high density disks. -
Where the largest concentration of TI-99/4A users are...

CARTRIDGES -- Are you a collector or _________?
fimbulvetr replied to Omega-TI's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
Heh. Not getting Pitfall is one of my regrets as well. I collect cartridges, both old and new but only games. I have no interest in the educational stuff or utility carts (unless they are actually useful like extended basic or assembler). -
Competition Pro Retro by icomp.de
fimbulvetr replied to artrag's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
I have one. The build quality is decent enough, but I find the switches to be way too clicky, to the point where it is distracting to use it. -

Midnight Mason, Bigfoot, Parsec, Tex Turbo..
-
I just tried it out, and I could boot off the floppyemu no problem
-
I've never booted off of it, but you can select the disk at startup on the floppyemu screen.
-
No, you just eject the disk image the same as if it were a real disk by dragging it to the trash, then select another image to load on the floppyemu.
-
I have a floppyemu. It is a great piece of kit. You just load up disk images and the mac treats them like actual disks. Even better is the HD20 hard disk emulation, which acts like an up to 2GB hard disk. Well worth the money.

How did you find us? (the TI Forum at Atari Age)
fimbulvetr replied to Omega-TI's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
The guys at the yahoo groups pointed me here as well. -
I have a pile of different sticks, but for some reason I keep coming back to the ti hand manglers. After so many years of using those, my scores always drop when I switch to another one even if it is technically superior, like my competition pro, wico bat, or silk stik.
