I'm super tempted but have no use for this since I have the whole Framemeister setup with RGB NES, but I will say this is a pretty good (and cool) move by Nintendo.
I would be excited to see it in person and see how it runs.
If I have random extra money, I miiiight invest.

Going to keep the list small since like most said, there's a lot to choose from here~
I'd say the following rank on top of what I love and still have.Grandia 2 (Grandia 3 is okay and Extreme costs more, go 2)
Robot Alchemic Drive (get past terrible voice acting and you got a giant awesome robot fighting game)
any Ratchet & Clank title (Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal are probably the best IMO)
Shadow Hearts series (only played the second one but it stands on its own)
Resident Evil 4 (just go and own it on every console because you should)
Persona 3 or 4 (only played 3 on the PS2, but 4 remake was great on vita)
The number of RPGs are endless here really. Afraid my PS2 collection was never grand, so I dunno where else to go from here really...

Very interesting talk and totally worth the listen~
Makes a lot of great points, and hopefully we can see more material like Mega Man Legacy Collection coming from Digital Eclipse in the future. -
I have a strong feeling that it's a Raspberry Pi based system.
The systems available for it plus the way it looks... I'll be honest these already exist.
The only thing they're really offering is an easy to get service that lets you download everything.I saw this same basic thing on Adafruit.

There is also this guy who sells a whole kit in differing varieties.
http://www.retrobuiltgames.com/the-build-page/porta-pi-arcade-kit/You can buy just the wood, the wood and electronics, etc.

This is a cool looking smartphone device, but it won't fit every phone.
I swear I saw a description somewhere saying like 4.7 to 5.5 phones. I realize that's probably a majority of phones... but still.
I already have like 2-3 bluetooth controllers, and I never use those, so I barely have a use for this.
While this one is more convenient, you can buy bluetooth controllers with phone holders that feel awkward but have more varied usage.
I'd get this if it was cheap, but we all know it probably won't be. Also like previously stated, you could buy a game boy and probably several games for the same cost as one of those.

Vermillion Destroyer--I have now. Is it free DLC? If not I'll probably pass.
It's only free to backers I believe. Everybody else pays $5 for it.
The Vermillion Destroyer level is kinda pointless. Very boring straightforward level with a boss you fight three times in exactly the same way. (Changes very little between every fight... basically no change.)
However, beating the level lets you play as an alternate character with an alternate play style.
Which would be cool, but it seems to have mixed opinions in the reviews. Most people don't like the play style. I haven't tried her separate campaign, but I'm unsure how I'd actually feel about the style change. Seems to be kinda like Zero but with a twist.
-
They make you switch over to a different character with differing abilities for a stage, which really hurt the flow.
The Call level? I'd say it's complete shit really... especially for just a one shot level. Making her kinda sneaky but then not giving her real sneak abilities?
That and just not designed very well. Should have taken a different approach to the boss too.
You happen to try the Vermillion Destroyer level? I thought it was super weak for a DLC.... I think it's just one REALLY short level with multiple fights against the same boss with the same moves.

I am on one of the later game stages (probably close to finishing) and my opinion is kinda staying the same.
It is good and fun enough, but it isn't really meeting up to the standards it should be.
It doesn't look or feel like a high budget game. There are shooting platformers that easily do better and with a much smaller budget.
I have a bad feeling that we didn't kick start the game so much as we kickstarted that company. They probably ran through the budget.
On top of that, I know they had several issues throughout with their community relations, and I am not referring to their stupid commercial they put out.
Will I play and beat the game? Yes, I am doing so now.
I like most of the characters and the general idea of the story. The gameplay just doesn't really feel overly polished or where it should be though. The graphics are a bit of a turn off because they could have done more and better.
I have accepted that I suck at the game in general.
If I do beat it, I probably won't come back to it again and again like I do Shovel Knight.
Also seeing the Bloodstained demo makes me sad I didn't back that one... ;_; -
I picked up a copy partly because the gameplay looked fun, and partly because of the hate bandwagon. I had a feeling a lot of it was overblown but wanted to see for myself.
Completely agree with this (and a majority of what you said).
Everybody has jumped on the hateful bandwagon of the game, and it's honestly not that bad. And I believe you are right for the most part on it. It's not quite what we were wanting or expecting considering the time and money put into it... but it's still fun to be had.
I think the main people disappointed (like you stated) is those who helped fund it and then were delivered something that kinda drifted from what was promised... Not to mention the game released has essentially been done since the first demo they released early last year. (Seriously, the first "demo" they released out was like 3-4 levels of the game.) On top of that, the demo from near the end of last year had pretty much everything except for the last few stages I believe.
And yeah, I can be honest and say a lot of my complaining is because I suck at it. lol
I like the character designs. Just not the graphical choice. Wish they would have stuck closer to what the original concept art looked like.

But does anybody even want him at this point?
I have a couple copies (I backed the Kickstarter for PC and PS crossbuy.), and I am having a lot of mixed feelings.
I want to like the game and enjoy it at times, but it isn't really what I was expecting at times.
The look of the game makes me feel like a low end indie group worked on it (and didn't have 4 million dollars).
The game doesn't play very tight at times either. I may not be the best at platformers, but I often felt a lot of my deaths were cheap. The dash is so overpowered and really should be limited if you ask me.
I like the character designs but the voice acting is kinda meh and the dialogue could be better. I don't mind silliness here and there but it's almost too much.
I want to like it... But it is trying so hard to not make me like it. I will go ahead and play through it, but mostly because I sunk a decent chunk of money into the Kickstarter... (Two pledges coming out to $140 or so.)
How is everybody/anybody else's experience going?

Final Fantasy XII is a good game but I also have mixed feelings about it.
The story is decent, but like half of the characters are just... Not very good.
The game plays something like an MMO with enemies in the field, controlling one character while the rest of auto actions set up. (or set them all up and let the game play itself)
I enjoyed it well enough, but I am not going to buy the HD version... Or possibly ever play it again.
-
Definitely going to back this, but I'm going to wait to commit to make sure I'm not reaching outside of my current spending range...
OTHERWISE! Great find! -
I have had the unfortunate selection to be part of a couple Kickstarters that have gone south...
First one I ever jumped on "Super Retro Squad" has pretty much turned into "never getting this game Squad".
They didn't get enough money, most of the people involved quit, and they have a new slacker backer style funding available at this time. (Sorry no fancy link for this)
There's that one where the guy basically flipped his rocker over the responsibility and burned all the remaining books. The kickstarter I backed for the Goblins comic card game turned into a scam where the guy making the card game took the money and ran... and he's not even the guy who writes the comic. (Who has had to do a shitton of effort to gain the rights back to it)
I think we can all agree that Mighty No 9 hasn't gone overly well considering the initial reception and love behind it. (Delayed several times and a lot of people aren't even for it anymore.)
I'd say from experience... if you want to back a Kickstarter, they need to have some material to show. Examples?
If it's a game, they need a demo.If it's a machine, they need a working unit to show off. (lol Retro VGS amirite?)
If it's a comic/book/music being printed/recorded, they need to have their material to show off that they at least have SOMETHING on it. (IE web comic with link, pictures of the book pages, songs for the album)
They have to have something. Because if the Kickstarter only has an idea... I'd say it's almost completely destined to fail.

OKAY! Final post on this because I did some research and it seems there is a non-modding answer to this!
You'll need an SD Card reader for the Gamecube plus something someone made called Game Boy Interface. Apparently it boots a homebrew image of the Game Boy Player disc. I don't think it's perfect but it does what you want without having to worry about the disc plus some improvements it seems.
SD Media Launcher One of two options from what I can tell.and then
Game Boy Interface This seems to require burning to a disc.

Apparently you can get an SD card reader for the Gamecube memory card slot and use something called Swiss to load an ISO of the Game Boy Player disc.
http://www.gc-forever.com/wiki/index.php?title=SwissNever done this myself, but I found that after searching for a work around.
I lucked out when someone here on AtariAge was selling their Game Boy Player complete with disc. Otherwise the Player is cheap (like $20), but the disc is always like $40+ by itself...
EDIT - Okay nevermind this requires adding a mod chip as well... Still an option though I guess?-

I have the Gamerz Tek SNES.
It is decent for the price, but like all the other clones, it is far from perfect. Definitley not as good a picture as a regular SNES, but it is a decent and cheap alternative. Comes with two controllers and a video cable that includes s-video.
I would suggest the original over any clones myself.

This is cool, but I'm pretty sure there are already several things like it on the market, and most of them are at a decent average human size without being insanely huge.
Here's a few links.
GameKid - The best contender here. It's a bit expensive, but it's easily the best without having to do much effort to assemble.Pixel Vision - If you just have money to burn...
Pocket PiGRRL - These site has a lot of RaspPi projects you can do... but they're all fairly expensive (and just the kits with no Raspberry Pi).

Another BUMP!
I've got everything with alternate bundles and lowered the cost on existing bundles... Giving away a lot of it at this point. (I mean by how low I've dropped from my original pricing.) -
BUMP! I changed my mind... Added some more items. Reduced prices on other items.

Clocks for sale.

If you are doing it because of the new craze from Pokemon Go, I would suggest sticking to Generation 1.
You could easily full it up with the starters and their evolutions (Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, etc)
The three Legendary birds would work as well. (Moltres, Articuno, and Zapdos)
Pikachu was a given as well.
Eevee and its evolutions (Jolteon, Vaporeon, and Flareon)
Dratini and evolutions work well.
Mew and Mewtwo are good.
Only other thing I can think I of would be doing the first 12 numbered, but you would end up with a weird scenario.
