I had a reasonably great haul at my local junk store! The highlight of what I found was.... Xbox 360 Guitar Hero 2 controller - Expensive-ish at $29 but in nearly perfect/new condition Xbox 360 Rock Band microphone - Been looking for one. I paid a few dollars more than it's worth, but it works so huzzah! Black GameCube with a Game Boy Player - Yes I know the picture says $39.99, but that was the old price label. Let's just say... It was substantially less than that. PSP 3000 - This was in box, but the box only had the PSP-3000 in it plus a couple games. 3 PSP UMDs and 1 random GBA game. Found a separate PSP charger even! (Battery was bulged though and needs replaced.) Animal Crossing New Leaf - Turned out to just be the case and manual, but it had a copy of Animal Crossing Wild World in it! There were a few other odd items, but it was mostly just various useful cables and a controller. You may also admire the random kitchenware I bought if you really want? (The Batman and Joker are just odd piggy banks a friend got for me... They adorn my kitchen table because I don't know.)

The flaw with batocera is you need a second machine to get the full advantage of it. If you plug the flash drive into a Linux OS, you can just browse it and add the files you want/need to the file folders. Windows won't see it by default, but you can get a 3rd party program to get into it. When it's running, you should be able to connect to it via a network and add files that way. I can't say I know the exact folders by default though...

I wish I could give a good answer for that, but you're probably better off doing some searching. However, I do have a different suggestion that might net you better results. I really like RetroArch as a program, but I'm not a big fan of Lakka. In theory, the barebone minimum RetroArch (Lakka) should be one of the best choices, but I find Lakka runs really janky unless you do some configuring (especially on lower end systems). I'd actually suggest giving Batocera a try. https://batocera.org/ Like Lakka, it's a custom version of Linux that's built to just add games and go (give or take some BIOS files). I found it works surprisingly well even with some old office computers with no video card. I was able to run a couple PS2 games with it. It can be a tad finicky, but I still like it better than Lakka. Granted, I may have just been impatient with Lakka. *shrugs*

Looks pretty neat! I'd definitely try it.

Now I'd like to preface this by saying... I live in the middle of nowhere. (Not the literal town of Nowhere, OK) I used to have 2 GameStops that were reasonably close to me (25ish minute drive), and within the last year, both of them have closed down. The first one was just in an odd/bad spot, and I don't think it was getting a lot of business. I really only stopped there randomly when I was bargain hunting or searching for something odd/cheap to grab (IE wasting money). It was one of those small, hole-in-the-wall style stores and was never great IMO. The second one... was a bit of a sad loss for me. It was one of the bigger GameStops in the nearby area, and I've used it for the last like 10+ years for various things. I used to enjoy going there, but within the last 3-4 years I wasn't frequenting it as much. It made me a bit sad to learn they were closing... Although I haven't been using it as much, it used to be a great store with fun/knowledgeable associates who weren't bearing down on you. Granted that changed within the past few years (big reason I stopped going). I managed to snag some good deals before they closed. I even got a few posters they were just giving away. HOWEVER! I did happen to ask one of the associates what happened, and the reason for their closing is kinda sad/terrible. The biggest reason they were closing down is because they weren't getting enough used games in. (Mostly because of COVID) Of course, the main money maker for GameStop is their trade-ins. On top of that, trade-ins get people in the door so they buy their collectible items (trash) which are a secondary big money maker. No trade-ins means less foot traffic and that means less sales, so they ended up not making the cut. I mean it doesn't help that GameStop hasn't been doing well for a while, but it's sad to see a giant empty store front where I used to have some good memories. (MY NOSTALGIA!)

Based on my own emulator usage, I feel you're going to get more out of a CPU upgrade than a RAM upgrade. However, I did a bit of looking around online, and that seems to be the conclusion. While a RAM upgrade will help the system in general, the main brunt of emulation is on the CPU. Better GPU (graphics) will help as well, but it seems like the CPU is still the biggest factor. I remember Dreamcast being pretty tame on most of the games I play, and I think Saturn emulation is still a bit janky even now so could just be that. I will say GameCube is easier than one would think, but I get still get some issues on a better system with it.

I have used plain isopropyl alcohol and that works, but I think it's usually suggested to use baking soda and water or vinegar. All of those have worked to clean it off before... I have a feeling you'll want to use the latter as there is so much to clean off.

I'd highly recommend the 8bitdo SNES type controllers. WIRELESS https://www.amazon.com/8Bitdo-SN30-Wireless-Gamepad-Original-nintendo/dp/B08536V3PH/ WIRED https://www.amazon.com/8Bitdo-Gamepad-Nintendo-Windows-Raspberry-pc/dp/B07R481CVY They are very sturdy and well made controllers. They have a variety of colors and styles available as well. There are also more modern style ones with analog sticks and secondary shoulder buttons, but those cost a bit more. I believe the top link comes with the wireless adapter for SNES, and you can technically use that adapter to sync it with your PC.

This is a pretty impressive bundle. I dunno where else one could go and get all that for just $5. All for a good cause too! Heck, I'll buy it, and I doubt I'll even play a percentage of what I get from it. lol

Generally, pre-ordering is pointless, but I've run into a few times that it's worth securing a copy for yourself (mostly smaller games where they only get a few copies). I'd also like to point out this was some time ago, and the idea of ordering online still felt sketchy at times and not as fleshed out as it is now. I was talking like 10 or more years ago. When it was a smaller game or event, I think the midnight release just seemed like a small mini-party of sorts. It was neat enough to see and enjoy the game, but the place I live saw a minor midnight release only having like 30-40 people at absolute most. I just hate how much space is wasted on the plastic crap. To think that they plan to make the game selling space even SMALLER... I dunno how to accept that from a store where it's main name is GAMEstop and not CRAPstop. If I wanted CRAPstop, I'd go to Wal-Mart or many of the other stores available. I can see a minor advantage of having (essentially) a Game Lounge thing... Not all of America has high speed or broadband available. I finally got a couple options just a few years ago with radio-based internet, but that's relatively expensive for kinda shit speeds (like $70 for 5Mbps). With less and less physical and more and more digital, not having high speed is basically the equivalent of not having full access to modern gaming. That and as more and more people can't shell out money for a $60 game or a $300-500 console, I could see the idea of dropping X amount on a membership to just come and play games whenever without having to invest in a console or PC as a bonus. Not justifying it... Just acknowledging there's a partial market for it, but also not enough of a market to support an entire company. GameStop needs to just accept its tombstone.

I used to have a higher opinion of GameStop. Back when it was a relatively nicer gaming establishment... Heck, I didn't even mind they used to just do games and video. Ever since they picked up the collectible plastic/garbage heap, I've lost a lot of what little like/respect I may have had for the company. Of course, back in the "good days" of Gamestop, they had a midnight release for nearly every game. However, as the smaller releases started getting NO business and some release windows got a larger group (like 3-4 games a Friday), they eventually just stopped doing them. I always disliked when they stopped doing it because they usually had a small event of sorts with the new games playable (if able) and maybe even a small tournament. I remember Mortal Kombat (reboot) came out, and my friend won a copy in a drawing. This compiled with employees who seemed to enjoy gaming and liked talking about made for an overall enjoyable experience. Unfortunately, when the employees got shanked by the company (one way or another), you lost a lot of the heart of what they were doing. Then midnight releases basically got cancelled for anything that didn't sell hundreds of copies (I think they still do Call of Duty but nothing special). Then they picked up the "collectibles craze" with all the plastic garbage collectibles and toy loot boxes... I just don't care for them anymore. I never preorder anything there (what I usually want is either in enough supply to be fine or small enough that nobody wants it). I only go by when they have a decent sale and tend to look for the cheaper items I actually want. The last 2-3 times I stopped in I left empty handed. Heck, I remember getting into a disagreement (minor) with an employee how the place wasn't the same since they got all the crap. He argued back something about them being really profitable... which made me just disappointed. I understand they need profit to stay alive but... I just don't feel a need to go there with the multitude of other options that don't feel as big of a sellout.

I love everything about this Amazon product entry. Considering these systems appear to be like a dime a dozen, it's probably "just okay" at best. Odds are that it'll either have issues upon arrival and will be greatly underwhelming. I mean if someone gave me one I'd play it, but it would probably just be played once or twice and forgotten.

Well life kinda struck me, and I don't have the time or money to do the actual cabinet yet. >_< I still need to get with my cabinet guy and see if he could throw something together. I'm hoping it'll be relatively cheap if made form Plywood and I paint it myself.

This would be a tough one... I'd probably choose between the SNES and the PS1. I'll go ahead and choose the PlayStation 1. As for my "five games", I'd go with... -Front Mission 3 -Final Fantasy IX -Mega Man X4 -Mega Man Legends -Um Jammer Lammy I had a hard time limiting these down, and I excluded several honorable mentions for me like Legend of Dragon, Grandia, Threads of Fate, Final Fantasy Tactics, Twisted Metal 2, Future Cop LAPD, Dino Crisis, Spyro the Dragon, Mega Man Legends 2, Misadventures of Tron Bonne, Mega Man X5, and I could keep going but I'll stop. XD

It's a pretty great game, and it's definitely for fans of River City Ransom. I just beat it last night. Overall it's not super tough (I did play on regular though.), and it does get easier as you upgrade your character. Also, the ability to horde items and use them whenever is probably the only reason I beat it. lol Only real problem I have is when you get swarmed by a small group that makes it very difficult to properly handle as they just swarm you with attacks and their placement.
