Co-op looters and shooters
KeeperofLindblum replied to Ninjabba's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Funnily enough, the hard part is finding something that matches all three tags successfully! If you pick 2 of the 3, you can find quite a bit. I was going to suggest the other Borderlands: Pre-Sequel, but then I decided to find a list online and see if any names rang a bell. I hand picked a few from games I've at least played and will suggest based on what it sounds like you want. Battleborn - Honestly this got trashed pretty quick, but it seems to be a lot of the style and gameplay of Borderlands. Problem is the game kinda got dropped and unsure how playable it is at this time (IE servers might be gone). I mean it's going to at least be super cheap? Dead Island - This is probably a bit closer to what you want. I played through the first one and honestly don't remember much of it. It was fun enough, but it's probably going to pale in comparison to Borderlands. Bulletstorm - There's not much loot element to it, but I would like to say that I had a lot of fun with it. Very unique shooter with interesting weapons and strategies. Not much for loot here though...but it fits the other two categories! As far as what I found on random sites with lists, I'll mention these two but add that I have little to no experience with them! RAGE - Not sure about loot in it, but it's got the other two? Always sounds fun but I've never taken the time to play it. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series - Another one I've heard about but have had very little time with. It's a post apocalyptic setting but I believe it meets all the qualifications? -

PS1 / PS2 HDMI Adapter by Pound Technology
KeeperofLindblum replied to KeeperofLindblum's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Pardon the bumping of this old thread, but I wanted to let future searchers others know that your TV might be able to fix the widescreen effect (unlike my TV). You can force the aspect to 4:3 mode, and that will push it back into place. Unsure of what all TVs have this feature, but it's worth noting as that fixes one of the worst issues I found with the cable. boxpressed showed this off in another thread ---> Playing PlayStation Games -
That's great to hear/see! I'd have done that too, but my TV is missing the forced 4:3 aspect feature. Might have to see if a firmware update exists and would fix this... Worth a shot at least.

If anybody else was curious about the PS1/PS2 HDMI adapter by Pound, I made quite a few screenshots showing off PS1 footage with it. https://imgur.com/a/VCW4hZd There was also a thread about this a while back. Link Here! Short version for those disinterested in the links. PS1 games look good but come out wider. It won't beat RGB, but it's cheaper to access than RGB or more available than S-video is now. I haven't done a lot of tests with the PS2, but I would if people were interested enough.

What do we do with Sonic?
KeeperofLindblum replied to HoshiChiri's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Would probably help if Sega gave Sonic more than 1 game of a new "series" before abandoning it and trying another reboot. It's like we get one decent game (Colors, Lost World, Generations), but then they don't try to make a sequel to improve or expand upon it. I also would like to see an attempt at an open 3D world with Sonic kind of running around a fully realized world. I'm no full expert on Sonic lore, but I know Mobius could probably be fleshed out in-game and work fine for a full 3D world. -

All Gone! Thanks for Playing!

Couple final notes! Wi-Fi router box doesn't have the extender in it. I'm like 90% sure the video card works, but I don't really have the time to install and test it. The Wind Waker guide book isn't available as I plan to most likely sell or keep that one. I can take active game shots for the Samsung security monitor on request.

Old Arby's sign? o_O Jokes aside, I got mixed feelings on seeing another console. I feel like we're barely hanging on to what counts as a "home console" as is. What we mostly have is middle-ground gaming PCs fitted to specific formats. All for competition to stir the current regime up but... will it actually be worth it? Also, they quoted 3 and a half YEARS. We aren't seeing it anytime soon.

Now that I messed a bit with mine (both out of box and the softmod), I really only have a few comments. 1. I agree the hate is a bit strong for it. It works well enough for what it is. Not amazing by any degree, but it's not HORRIBLE either. 2. On the flip side, I'm glad I only paid $30ish for it. A full $100 down on this would have made me incredibly disappointed. 3. It's actually a really cool miniaturization of the original PS1. Even the box is made to look like the original box.

My understanding is that the Super Game Boy runs like a few hertz quicker than the Game Boy. However, it's not very noticeable unless you're sensitive to it or put it side by side. They fixed this in the Super Game Boy 2. I... have never heard that before! That makes sense though considering what kind of time it seems to take when using it. Thanks for the knowledge!

I mean depending on the variety... You're better off with one of two options. 1. Game Cube + Game Boy Player (as Austin suggested) - Gamecube is easy enough. The Game Boy Player is cheap but the legitimate disc isn't. You can use homebrew software for cheaper, but that requires investing in an SD memory card piece (around $20). This will play anything from Game Boy up through Game Boy Advance 2. Super Nintendo + Super Game Boy - This is a viable option, but you'll be limited to Game Boy games only. Can play Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, and Silver. EDIT - I always wondered if there was some kind of hack that could be done to play other Game Boy games using the Nintendo 64 Transfer Pak... I don't think there is, but it was always an interesting thought.

Getting into Steam was pretty painless...
KeeperofLindblum replied to Rick Dangerous's topic in Modern Console Discussion
1. In the Steam application, there's an option (I believe under Games) that let's you add non-Steam games to the library menu. Of course, all this does is add the shortcut and nothing else. 2. a. GOG's application works pretty much exactly the same as Steam's, but it's a bit different of a layout. IMO, they feel exactly the same to use. b. Afraid I haven't played a lot of "legacy" titles on GOG, but from what few I have, they seem to have already been pre-configured to just work on Windows. You might have to do some minor tweaking here and there, but I don't think anything drastic. Probably the same amount as you'd do on a game to optimize it for your own PC and experience. EDIT - Also, as Gemintronic said, GOG has quite a few free games you can get if you'd like to test it out. Last I remember, you get like 10 free games just from making an account. (They're all older titles.) -
Yeah I looked at this as well out of curiosity. It doesn't look bad from the outside, but it's impossible to take any of the reviews seriously.. What happened to attempting legitimate reviews? I'm not saying develop a system or anything but a dang "Pros and Cons" list at least.
