Does the original Gameboy have a vibrant home brew community (I honestly don't know). Does it have new games popping up every now and again? Does it have the McWill screen mod? Lynx wins in the end?

Leaving batteries in atari lynx + using ac adapter?
Trew replied to JagLynx4Life's topic in Atari Lynx
No that's not my question. Obviously when there are only 5 batteries in the Lynx, they aren't providing the power... I am deliberately taking one out to make sure of that! I am asking that when there are the full 6... AND the AC adapter is plugged in, that the power is taken via the AC and not the batteries? I strongly suspect it is, but was just seeking confirmation. -

Related... am I correct in assuming (as you seem to suggest gilsaluki) that when the AC is plugged in, this becomes the primary power source over batteries. Sometimes I used to take just one out when plugging my Lynx in, just to make sure I was using the AC and not batteries. -
I get this sometimes with various games. Usually, giving the cart pins a bit of a clean (and a blow in the cart slot for good measure) does the trick. But, if you tried this already, then I don't know. I'm not sure what the best way to clean a cart is... but I've never had to do anything more vigorous that a rub with a tshirt. Do the pins look damaged?

Swish! I love it.

Keep an eye on eBay France maybe. I bought one recently, but the post service couldn't figure out my address, and returned it to sender. In the meantime I got another copy. So... the French one got refunded, and will probably go up again on eBay soon I imagine. I paid similar/less than $75.

Nice. My Lynx is with McWill getting modded right now... will give it a spin once it comes back though, for sure!
-
Probably better to list the games you need, rather than have people try and spot the missing ones?
-
Do you get anything back from Zoc terminal when you press the "any key"? What settings are you using to send the ROM?
-
Registering interest also. Might double down and get two!

Is there even a legitimate way to play it for people that didn't get in on that run of carts?
-
Makes me mad with envy I would love to play this on my Lynx.

Thanks MacRorie... I've been holding off getting into Gauntlet, as I knew I'd want to fully explore it. These will really help. Following this topic for sure.

See! This is much more like it, we're gaining traction now! Not sure how I could contribute, but my day job is writing... so if we wanted a pretty blog (with sub pages for each entry) managing? I do music production too, but never for chip/SID sorta stuff (just general MIDI). But if there was a comp cart, would poss be able to help with audio bits (others may be more qualified).

1000 buyers at $65 funded through kickstarter.... sorta kinda half-way there, right?

I guess my cunning plan to get people to come out, unite and decide to build and fund a new mega game didn't work... damnit.

Some good info here, thanks guys. I see that the Lynx community has so much talent that's still active, and while games are slow to come... they do come! That combined with the fact that the second hand/collector market is pretty heated right now (Double Dragon and Desert Strike are going for mad money, etc), it seems there's an appetite for the games still... and people that can make them. But the two worlds seem disconnected. Home brewers do their best, indie game companies are dividing their time as best they can etc etc. It feel like all the parts are there (ability, ideas, demand), but not formerly organised. I wondered whether crowdfunding a game might mean we can either create something (even if it takes a year+), or... for it to pay to finish off some of the more promising ongoing games. As Kskunk mentions... a derivative idea... "Straight Fighter 2" or "Fatal Kombat" or.. whatever... wouldn't that be great?

Humour me here... I was wondering how much it would cost to develop a new Lynx game. Imagine I came into some money and wanted to make a "retail" style game (something comparable in looks, length and gameplay). Print up boxes and do a short run of cartridges. The goal being to, at best, try to cover cost. So, as the money-man... in this hypothetical situation, I'd need all the development done by someone else etc etc. Let's also assume there was a concept/storyline and so on, we just needed the programming/practicals done. Also, I am sure there are many challenges and "piece of string" things to consider. Let's just think top-level, and for the fun of it. I guess I am thinking along the lines of the reverse of what happens with homebrew, where someone chips away at a game, and we all sit here hungry for it, hoping that person has time to progress it. What if we planned it intentionally with an idea of cost and timeline and did it as a project. Is that something that's even realistic?

On the topic of Conquistador, I've tried two ROMs for it (ie, a ROM from two different places) and can't get it to play via either Handy or the FlashCart. Anyone know what's up? Or got a different version they can send? The one I was trying came from here: http://rampart.pp.fi/lynx/lynx.html And the FlashCart settings I am using are [X] *.o and [X] 256k/BL (does Baud matter?). The game appears to load on the FlashCart, I get a splash screen with music and "Press Button", but when I do, it freezes.

It's ok, I was totally being cheeky/optimistic.

I'll give you £5 for them. Thanks!

I'm tempted to give the Game Boy cases a go... but a quick glance on eBay, and it's not quite as cheap as I'd hope. Anyone know a good place in Europe (or that ships here) for a decent price? Going to want about 60 off the bat... Also, being a collector, would want them all to be the same/non Nintendo branded etc. Jeez, I'm so needy.

I'm at a similar stage in my collection BadPricey as you. I have also just bought the flashcart. I got it so that I could play all the rarities and homebrew games that will likely never make it to cart. I could play on an emulator etc, but for me that's not the same as playing on the actual Lynx (I could have saved a ton of money and just done that for all the games from the start). I'm fully intending to complete my retail collection, the hunt for the hard to find games is all part of it IMO (I just bought Double Dragon on Australian eBay!). But, I am undecided on things like the AVP protos you get from B&C etc... I'll decide on them later. You can find all the games if you're willing to hustle long enough (related: I have a spare Lemmings - no box though ). For me, the flashcart is also part of the collection. As for your actual question... would I spend £100 on four games or the flashcart... tough one. It depends on your collector's itch. You could get the flashcart now to enjoy the games, and take the pressure off the collection. Then just pick up the titles you don't have as and when you find them at a good price.

I was just thinking the other day about how the Lynx is lacking games like this, and like magic, this thread pops back up. Definitely not coincidence... like the others, ready to jump on this once it's out.
