I like it a lot! Not one that I had as a kid, but I do remember playing games like it on my computer. Got it a couple years ago, and at first was kind of turned off by it, mixed with not being able to figure it out at first. Since then, I've really started to like it and was playing it a lot a month or two ago.

Now I notice she's cancelled on Ebay, and has 6 neg. feedbacks. That doesn't look good. I'm thinking of filing for my money back with Paypal. I e-mailed her a few days ago, and got no response.

That sucks bad. IF I ever see those games, I'll update- but I ain't hopeful.

Yes- that helps, thanks. I'll not panic for the meantime. Me still worry though.

Good point! I must admit, I never played Solar Fox in the arcade. On the 2600, though, it is a very fun game - Tac-Scan I'm a little indifferent about. Pac-Man I like just fine, it doesn't bother me (anymore) that it barely resembles the arcade game (I already have that on Namco Museum). Defender I LOVED when it came out, and I still have nostalgic feelings for it. My main problem with it now is the invisible ship when you fire - it's distracting to look at and I don't like how it reduces the challenge. When it came out, I used to think of it as a feature, like "inviso" on Stargate.

It's got to be the 2600 for me. The 5200 has it's moments, but the controllers just suck (for most games) and a LOT of my 2600 games don't fit in my 7800. The Jag also has some fun games, and is neat to have, but just doesn't get played like the old 2600.

Assembler/Editor cart question..
elviticus replied to elviticus's topic in Atari 5200 / 8-bit Programming
Mr. Fish - thanks very much! That's excatly what I needed. Where would I be without this site and its good members? Lost, that's where. -
GBA SP and overseas gaming question
elviticus replied to elviticus's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Great - thanks everybody. I think I'll get a 240 to 120 converter, as my wife will need it too for her hair dryer etc. And... yes.... in Amsterdam, I probably won't be playing too much game boy! -
Assembler/Editor cart question..
elviticus replied to elviticus's topic in Atari 5200 / 8-bit Programming
OK - got the MAC/65 - thanks for the advice! Here's my new question: Is there a way I can obtain a printable copy of the manual anywhere? On the site where I bought the assembler, there's a link to the manual PDF, but it's password restricted and will only allow me to view, not print. -
I'm getting ready to go overseas (to England and Amsterdam) for a couple of weeks, and of course I want to take my GBA with me.... here's my problem: Since my GBA is rechargeable, not battery operated - how can I (or can I?) recharge it when I'm in England? If worse comes to worse, I still have my original GBA which uses batteries. I hate the dark screen, however, so if anyone can offer any advice, I'd appreciate it!

This is an offshoot of "how long does it take" post. Can anyone post and say if they've ever received any games from Claudia's collectibles? I'd like to know. On the auction is says allow 5 weeks for delivery - this is one thing that makes me wonder. Also, I feel stupid for buying from someone who hides their feedback. The only reson I did is that their score was high. Can anyone give me any good news about this seller?
-
Damn. I bought one of the Ikari/Motorodeos from Claudia's Collectibles too - on Jan. 8th. No sign of my games either - I'm starting to worry as I see 4 negative feedbacks - which of course I can't view! I'm starting to feel like a sucker.

I love the Starpath Frogger, but it IS a good point - why not do a game that needed a facelift worse, or something not in the library already. I got the Supercharger and "Stella Gets a New Brain" CD a couple years ago, and I have to say it was a great buy!
-
That IS a cool site. I haven't seen Page 6 magazine before - I've got some reading to do!

Anybody here (besides me!) remember G.A.S. (great american softwar exchange)? I remember you could send them your old games for a certain amount of points that you could redeem towards new (to you) games. Anyway (part 2) one of the games I remember getting was Getaway! where you drove around a multiscreen scrolling maze - I really liked it. Anyone else remember this one, and can it be bought anywhere now?

How many K is Popeye? This is a good example IMO of a good 2600 conversion that is similar to DK (though maybe easier to program, I don't know?) Although it's missing elelments of the arcade game and the layout of the boards is different, it's nice that they included 3 screens and it has a good level of challenge and the same basic gameplay as the arcade in tact.

Maybe I loved Donkey Kong a lot more than Pac Man, but this one hurt way worse. I got it right when it came out and was seriously bummed that it was the 2 screens over and over, and no increase in challange, climbing fireballs etc..... To make matters worse, I had a friend with a Colecovision, and it just made the Atari look bad at the time. Of course, I played it a lot anyway, so it is still a very nostalgic game for me - but I had to vote worse than Pac-Man.

1st assembly game attempt - stuck... help?
elviticus replied to elviticus's topic in Atari 5200 / 8-bit Programming
Don't mind at all, I'm in the same boat! Mostly, I've printed out and read books from Atari Archives. The ones I've read are: ML for beginners - if you've done any BASIC programming, this helps Atari Roots - good and not too complicated Atari Graphcis and Arcade Game Design - still reading - very in depth but pretty complicated (to me at least) right from the start. Besides these, I got a book called "The Atari Assembler" (I think) and it was pretty good IMO because it is all done with the Assembler Editor cart - the only assembler I have right now. Also, the Master Memory Map and Mapping the Atari are getting a lot of use! -
1st assembly game attempt - stuck... help?
elviticus replied to elviticus's topic in Atari 5200 / 8-bit Programming
Thanks Rybags - good advice. I'll definitely be picking up the MAC 65 as soon as possible. I know it would probably be best to work on an emulator, but I just love the old 800 and TV. As I read your post, I think I figured out what I did! When I went to write the score subroutines, I put them at the end of the program (line # ) and accidently ended up assembling them with the GR. subroutines on page 6 - DOHH!! I'm guessing that I went way over page 6 and screwed something. Thanks for the help. -
Hi, me again... I'm in the middle of doing the simplest game I could think of to practice my assembly, and I've been learning a lot --- but I'm stuck. The game: ball falls from top of screen at some angle, you catch it. It can bounce off the walls. That's it - Pong with no returns! I'm using: Assembler Editor cart on an Atari 800. The program: On page 6 I have the Assembly language graphics subroutines that I copied out of "Assembly Language Programming for the Atari Computers" (thank you Atari Archives!!) My game code I put at $8000 - the right cart slot RAM (i hope thats an OK place?) My problem: I have the game almost done.... right now I'm doing the score and a couple of other things and I'm done... but, I've done the score section of the program twice, and it works fine- but then I go to save (LIST) the program and it CRASHES.... ooops... It won't save, and the computer locks up, so I'm forced to turn it off and start again. Can anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong based on this info.? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help! PS - just thought of this.... I had a Monkeywrench cart that didn't work right... and it used slot B on my computer... could this be it? Also, tried to put the game at $4000 (which I also read was safe?) but when I assembled it, I got all KINDS of errors, not sure why Whew - excuse all the confused rambling..

Assembler/Editor cart question..
elviticus replied to elviticus's topic in Atari 5200 / 8-bit Programming
Where can I find out about/buy a MAC 65? I'm not familiar with it... is it on cartridge? Also, I have read (in Atari Graphics and Arcade Game Design) about the SynAssembler cart - is that available anywhere, and is it good? I probably should assemble on the PC, but I really like working on my old Atari 800. I'm really new to assembly, so I'm still learning a lot about it. Thanks for the help! -
Assembler/Editor cart question..
elviticus replied to elviticus's topic in Atari 5200 / 8-bit Programming
Include.. I don't see it in the Assembler Editor manual.. . could you explain? -
Question for anyone who might know: Is there a feature on the Assembler Editor cart that allows you to List/Enter like BASIC? I know how to use these commands to save and load source code, but it wipes out anything I have already been working on in the editor(enter, that is). I'd like to be able to merge in routines that I have saved to disk to use with something I'm writing in the editor like you can in BASIC. Is there a way?

Reindeer Rescue, Crazy Balloon, 2005 Multi-cart and .... Stellar Track.

Just got home on the 26th and have been playing Reindeer Rescue quite a bit since. Great job to all who worked on it! It's a very fun game, and I'm really impressed by the graphics and sounds you all pulled off -especially the variety of tunes. Merry Christmas/New Year.
