  1. Trying to play this one on my Ti-99... Can anyone tell me how to play this, or know of a link for instructions? It looks interesting.. I'm just not sure what I'm doing. Thanks
  2. Thanks Kr0tki.. I think it may have been something like that, but I THINK i got it fixed.. I went through my program and noticed that I forgot to "pop" out of some gosubs that didn't return. After I fixed this, everything has been working fine. Could these unreturned gosubs have been interfering with my display? I stiil am a very noob programmer, so if this is way off - sorry for my ignorance! Anyway, at least it's working again.
  3. Well, I've almost finished an altogether too long game I'm doing in BASIC and I used the Super Font program and datamaker to completely redefine the character set. However, I'm having a strange problem. Every now and again (I can't detect a pattern) the display completely freaks out and starts to turn into all kinds of onscreen garbage insted of my character set! If I re-run the program - it works fine. Does any one know what may be causing the display to malfunction?
  4. I spent all that time scanning this book and people are still typing it in. Arrggg!!! http://www.atariarchives.org/c2bag/ Allan 881947[/snapback] Actually, I am typing programs into my Atari 800 by choice in hopes of learning a little something more about programming as I do it. Don't get me wrong, I visit Atariarchives quite a bit and am very appreciative for all those scans of these great books! I recently worked my way through PM Graphics in Basic and it really helped me. Nevertheless, I think I have the answer now- I took a look at the scan on Atariarchives and I saw in line 380 " | | " --- so I guess that (as printed in the original book ){Q} and {E} are the control characters? If I've got it right - thanks! Sorry for the newbiness of this post - it's been about 20 years since I did any programming on this thing and it's taking me awhile to remember what little I used to know!
  5. Well, I'm confused. I'm typing in "Superfont" from Compute!'s first book of Atari Graphics. On line 380 there is a print statement I'm confused about. The type of brackets I think mean you don't actually type in what's there (i.e. # of spaces to be left) but I don't know what I'm supposed to do where it says {Q} {8 R} {E}. Hope I'm being clear. Can someone shed some light on this?
  6. Well, I finally got all the hookups and fired up the ti-99 a friend gave me a while ago, and it all works great EXCEPT - it's in black and white! Other than this, it works fine - anybody know why this might be, and if there's anything I can do to fix it?
  7. I agree - I think it's very good. I actually like (now) that 2600 games aren't really like the arcade versions, since I already have that on other newer systems.
  8. A couple months back I bought an Atari 800 and disk drive so I could get back to programming games which I used to do in the early 80s and really enjoyed. Anyway, I've been having a lot of fun getting re-acquainted with Atari BASIC and am planning to move on to machine language in a while. So... I've been buying a lot of books (and reading on line) but, most of my books are not specifically geared to game programming. What are some good ones I should look for? I read Player Missile Graphics in basic off atariarchives and it was great - it really helped that it was all leading up to a finished game. What other books would be good and where should I look?
  9. Thanks for all the info. everyone - Got the commando cart - very fun ! Also got a datasoft multi-cart which I wasn't aware of before I asked about commando - sweeet.
  10. Can anyone give me any info. on Commando for the xegs? Mainly, I want to know if it's a good version and if any keyboard input is required. I have the "brain" of my XEGS hooked up to the TV, but don't have room for the keyboard - so I want to make sure I can play with just the joystick. Anybody have this?
  11. Thanks everyone! That helps. Doubledown- PM sent!
  12. Well, I just had a windfall! An old friend I haven't seen for YEARS calls out of the blue and says "hey, so and so said you were into old videogames..." then stops by and gives me an Intellivision, about 15 games, a voice unit, AND a Texas Instruments computer in the box.. Nice, huh? Now, the questions.. The computer comes with a power supply, but there is no cable to hook it up to a TV... What kind of hookups does it use? Also, it looks like there are a couple 9 pin joystick ports.. Does it use Atari type sticks (like the C-64)? Any info is appreiciated!
  13. That James Bond 007 ad I saw in comics where he's on a train doing something cool - I wanted that game BAD!! Little did I know that scene was not in the game and had nothing to do with the game - funny how you used to be able to get away with those "mocked up" screen shots.
  14. I've got it on the Atari. I agree - good game. I like this Atari Appreciation thread too!
  15. Very nice - those are fun games. My B-day was today, and my wife gave me the Ebivision games! Ain't she sweet?
  16. Cool! Thanks for the heads up. Especially like the part where they note that no one reads the game instructions!
  17. Can you play the foreign releases on a US system? I really would like to get Jump Bug and those others you mention - but I'm wondering if they'll work on my Arcadia. I'd agree that most of the US games (the ones I have anyway) are kind of lacking. Still, it's a cool thing to play every now and again.
  18. OK - turned gravity off - that helps.. Still not so easy, but better.
  19. What a great game! !! However, I crash almost every time I attempt to land. I'm putting down landing gear, as far as I can tell, but... Most of the time I just crash into the runway. Any tips?
  20. Well, I just orderred a translator cart so I can play some of my games on the XEGS that weren't working... Astrochase and K-razy Antiks. Who has one of these and has used them for cartridge games? I understand you have to rip it out while the machine is on and trade games ... Can someone reassure me that I'm not going to blow up my XEGS?
  21. Ok, Just answered my own question... Found the 8 bit FAQ and it's listed (along with Astrochase, another I just got ) as incompatible. .... But, I also read about a translator cart. Can anyone tell me how well these work? Wondering if it's worth getting one. Looks like they're around $20.
  22. Sorry if this has been answered before, I searched for it but came up with nothing. I just got K-razy antiks and have been trying to play it on my XEGS. It boots up just fine, but I can't start a game. Do I have a defective cart, or do I need to press a keyboard key (I don't have keyboard hooked up)? Thanks for any help.
  23. Adventures of Tron is one I always come back to. I think as long as the game is hard, simple, fun and has a score they're mostly all addictive.
  24. Great - that helps. Do I have to do anything to designate the drive D1, or will that be the default if I only have one drive? Also... what was the DOS disk for?
  25. Hi - Just got an Atari computer (XEGS) again after oh, 20 years of being out of the loop. It came with a disk drive and I've got a game on disk coming in the mail.... Problem - I don't even remember how to load from disk! Any help appreciated.
