Basic Programming I really loved when I was a kid.... Pretty hard to program anything in 9 lines, but I loved trying.. Miniature Golf is ok - I actually really like the original Golf. After you get the control down, it's pretty fun. Also, it's so damn ugly it's almost good looking! Definitely give Skydiver another try.. though much better 2 player.

Excite bike and all the other great Nintendo arcade translations : Donkey Kong, DK Jr., Popeye etc.

Good point, and that's usually the approach I take.. but... It seems artificial to me, when I know that technically I have infinite lives. As to the point about liking to be able to play through if you want - I like to get through games too, but if you're getting through by constantly continuing, you may as well use a code and make yourself invincible. Not fun to me. At least an option to play with a fixed number of continues would be nice.

I was just playing Namco Museum on the PS2. I was playing Galaga Arrangement and really liking it - EXCEPT - for the f-ing continue feature... What a great way to spoil most games. In the arcade, w/a limited amount of quarters, I think this is fine. But, when you can continue as much as you want (with no penalty) it just robs a game of all suspense and challenge. I think a pretty good solution was how (in the 16 bit era) games woulld often give you a limited # of continues - probably what they thought you could win with, if you didn't completely suck. Anyway, that ends my rant ---- just had to get it off my chest. Your thoughts?

I say get the coleco, then get BOTH versions of venture, as well as zaxxon, and any others on both systems! The more the merrier. Plus, it's always fun to see how they did the games on different systems.

Wow! Nice deals - great games too.... especially Frogger II - unbelievable.

Just got an Atari 400 ... minus the power supply. Do I have to get one specifically for it, or is there anything I can use instead? Thanks in advance for any help.

revenge of the beefsteak tomatoes IS good. I've seen it slammed many times, but I'm not sure why. It's really hard to even beat one level, but it seems fair. I like frantically building a bit of wall and hiding behind it from the evil killer tomato! !!

Wow! I read the subject of this post and thought I'd be the only one voting for Airlock - guess not. Also used to play King Kong quite a bit, even though I knew it was pretty budget even at the time... Still, if it resembled Donkey Kong (even a little) I was playing.

Anyone know where to find instructions for this? I'm planning on getting it from the store pretty soon here, and tried the link to instructions (so I could know the variations etc. ) but it didn't seem to work. Is there a new link to the instructions? Just curious, if anyone knows, why doesn't this game come w/instructions like all the other reproductions/homebrews?

Well I just got it - it's pretty cool! I only played a few minutes, but I'm going out of town, so I plan to play quite a bit. The main reason I got it was for the 2 ports that I haven't played for about 20 years - sweet. My first impression is positive. It's been a long time since I played them, but they seem pretty faithful to the originals and very easy to play! The sounds/music seem very much how I remember them too. Haven't played the main game at all yet, but I've heard it's pretty good... funny, to me the main game is more like the bonus!

You got a deal! I used to have the mini DK when I was little, I wish I had hung onto it. It seems like they usually go around $50 to $75.

OK, I want one BAD! The original was a big favorite of mine on my Atari 800.. I'd love to have a 2600 version.

I was just reading the Wargames post and I remembered I have Colecovision Wargames, but I think I couldn't figure out what I was doing. Anyone know of a good resource for Colecovision instructions (or how to play this game at least!) ?

The Intellivision controller is a disc that you push on in the direction you want to move. Not the most precise thing for arcade type games (IMO). I don't have any (wish I did), but I think the clip on sticks attach over the disc and are little joysticks which push the disc for you and offer more precise control.

Oh yeah! Nifty gadgets - I'd definitely get the Intellivoice and B-17 bomber. Both are easy to find and B-17 Bomber is such a cool game.

The power supply is hardwired in, so are the controllers. The RF cable is too, I think. When I got mine I just had to get an adapter from radio shack so I could plug it into the cable. You could also use an Atari switch box I think. Most any Imagic game is really good for Intellivision, and most are pretty easy to get. One of my favorites that's harder to find (but worth it) is White Water. Some of my favorite Mattel games : Space Battle, Night Stalker, Star Strike and Burgertime.

Very cool! Thanks for posting that. Probably everyone know this but me, but why is it that in all the old ads, catalogs etc. real screenshots are never used?

Thanks Sku_u, but I've got MK Trilogy, and it's cool. However, I want the original versions of 2 and 3 as well. Also, I have MK2 and 3 on Genesis and Super Nintendo and gameboy for that matter. Doesn't mean I don't want an arcade perfect (OK, probably not "perfect") translation of them. Whatever rude things Midway says about "classic" gamers, their actions speak louder than words when they keep releasing compilations of classic games! The large number of people buying these packs, in turn, lets them know that a lot of gamers still love those games.
-
I was disappointed with a couple of the games - it is true that the speed is messed up on Pit Fighter (who cares) and (I think) Wizard of Wor (damn!) BUT - it's $20 and you do get MK2 and 3, which I would pay $20 for alone. A.P.B. is definitely cool, and there's some fun to be had messing around with the lesser known games. Bottom line for me - it ain't perfect, but for $20 it's still and undeniable value.

90,000!!! Now, if I could just hit those planes with any consistency at all...
