I was just playing Battlezone on my 2600. This is one of the games that I actually got right when it came out. A relative was visiting and gave me $50 or something and I remember going right out and blowing it on the coolest new Atari game I could find. Anyway, playing it just now I was remembering some funny stuff like how cool I thought it was that the score and copyright info was streamlined and small - unlike the huge blocky letters/numbers of the early games. I also loved the sharp graphics and excellent gameplay. Nevermind how much it strayed from the original! I accepted that it was a translation and not a real port of the arcade game. Nowadays, if we get a port of an arcade game and ANYTHING is amiss, it's considered a big deal. Missing frames of animation, slightly worse audio, anything off is picked to pieces. Back then, we were surprised if all the levels were there (in some form or the other) and if we recognized what was supposed to be what!! To tell the truth, that's one thing I love so much about collecting for the 2600 to this day. When I play an old arcade favorite on the 2600, it's like playing a whole different game. It's always cool to see how the programmers tried to capture the magic of the original game on the Atari.

60,000 I remember getting this game when it first came out. It's a very impressive 2600 game in terms of graphics and gameplay, I think.

After several more games: 72,620 That's it for tonight - I'm getting a tension headache !! And, I'm developing a red spider phobia.

Is Lock 'N' Chase your favorite eat-the-dot maze game?

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this, but is there any chance of ever seeing Nukey Shay's awesome Hangly Man in cart form for sale? -
Wich was your favourite game back then and wich one is now?
elviticus replied to Damon Plus's topic in Atari 2600
My favorite game "back in the day" was usually the newest (good) one I had! However, I always played Defender, any Star Raider type games and (ugh) Donkey Kong. As much as I was disappointed by the two screens and other missing elements, I just had to play Donkey Kong ALL THE TIME. Now some favorites are: Solaris, Moonsweeper, Midnight Magic and my Stella Gets a New Brain Cd. -
Here's one thing I like about the HSC - I never had/played this game growing up, and when I got it for my collection a year or so ago, it didn't do much for me, so I played a couple times and stowed it. Anyway, after playing a couple games to try and get a score to submit, I found out it's actually a pretty cool game! It's funny how with most 2600 games, the real fun kicks in when you try to figure out how to rack up a just few more points before you finally bite it! 31,750

Thanks Sku_u - that did it!! And, I'm glad to get a chance to play it - Excellent job Nukey Shay !!!! Very impressive with all the features and intermissions?!? My hat is off. -
14,450 ... This'll probably be it for this one - I'm going out of town 'till Sunday.
-
Off the Wall would be good.
-
I think it's pretty fun - I need to play some more though. Nice find for 50 cents!!! It took me a little while to find, and I think I paid $10 for it.

OK, dumb question time. I just tried to download the hangly man hack from that link and my computer didn't know what to do with it... I saved it to desktop and it downloaded as a php file .... how do I download it so I can play it through my emulator? -
Does anyone have this yet? How is it, and what's on that bonus disc?

This one really brings back some memories! I haven't played it for awhile and I forgot how cool it is. The lasers on the 2nd screen have always freaked me out - still do! I also really like the energy system (instead of lives). 13,850 is my best so far. I played about 4 games and got shut down in the 13,000s EVERY TIME!!

I'd agree with that - Lock 'N' Chase is very good. I like most M-Network games for their solid graphics and tight gameplay. Not always the flashiest games, but some of the most fun IMO. Jr. Pac is another real contender for best maze game though. I'm always impressed by the speed and the features Atari packed into that one. -
I WISH I got anything that cool for a wedding gift! Your friend came up with some pretty good finds. I DID, however, get a Donkey Kong machine for my 30th B-day from my wife! Some things are just meant to be.
-
Sky Diver is very cool. One of the few games my wife actually likes to play!
-
Fun! I missed Frogger too.

Yar's sequel - YES! ET - pretty fun, definitely played it "back in the day" quite a bit. LOVE SABOTEUR!! Thanks HSW!!

After about 10 games - 2,390. Not too bad I guess, but I really don't like this game that much. My strategy is to stay at the top as long as possible and only rush down if I start to miss some. The first few games I was trying to get them all at the bottom (Kaboom style), but they spread out so much as they go down. Isn't it weird that Appollo has 2 airport themed games (Final Approach ) Airplane games are definitely in abundance, but AIRPORT games?? pretty weird.

I clean all of my carts - insides and cases. ... Some of the ones you find out in the wild can be REALLY filthy. I found what appeared to be chocolate (let's hope) inside my 5200 Mario Bros. I'm glad I cleaned it first!!

OK, probably the best I'll do... 14,290.
