  1. I love new games for the whole "alternate reality" aspect of them - they're so realistic, it's like an interactive movie a lot of the time.

The old games I love because: I grew up playing them and it brings back great memories, they're addictive and (usually) simple, and I like the kind of Zen trance you go into when you're on a roll and beating your old high score. 8)

  2. Who, in your opinion, was the most consistent (-ly GOOD :) ) developer for the Atari 2600? My vote is Mattel. I was playing a bunch of M-Network games the other night, and I realized that they really didn't make any game that wasn't reasonably good quality - and a lot that are very fun games. OK, Burgertime is a pretty rough port... but, when compared to, oh, DKJ - not so bad.

Almost all of their games have a high level of challenge, solid graphics and very tight gameplay. If the rumor about coleco (messing up conversions on purpose) is true - it seems the opposite was so for Mattel. Most of the games (to me) seem better on the 2600. The only game I don't have yet is Star Strike (..searching.. :pirate: )

So, who do you guys think was the most consistently good developer?

  3. I recently got the Space Invaders 5-in-1 game... I've got a question about Lunar Rescue (I never played this one in arcades). To anyone who HAS played the original : Are there a bunch of sound effects missing on this port?? The only sound is the jets from your ship - the game would be a lot better with some more sounds!!!! Also, did the original game "auto-land" you on the planets, it would be better if you had to do it manually..

    Just wondering, thanks in advance!

  4. If you could see a sequel to one of your favorite Atari games, what new/added features would it have?

I was playing Space Attack today - here's what I want in a sequel:

A Score (not just win/lose game)

    a variation with unlimited enemies

    variety of enemies

better ending if you win!! (not just 2 bleeps

    )

BTW, I think the Star Wars hack of this game is really cool!

So, what game needs a sequel.... ?

  5. Superchargers aren't TOO hard to find, and I definitely recommend getting one to play that great CD!!! It's all the supercharger releases + and there are a lot of good games on it.... As far as rarity, I'm not sure.

I've been playing a lot of Dragonstomper in the past few days - it's worth it just for that! 8)

  6. Having a huge game collection is really handy sometimes! Yesterday, I broke my left arm and I'm out of work for a few weeks (sucks) and I THOUGHT I'd be out of games too.. except maybe pac man...

However, I was forgetting the foot pedal controller I got from AA a few months ago ! Haven't used it much up till now - but i am REALLY happy to have it now! For the stick, I'm using a Sega Genesis arcade stick, which has a nice wide base so I can operate it w/one hand. The footpedal takes care of the fire button, and I'm back playing Atari today !! 8)

  7. ..So, I'm thinking about buying an Atari 800 and trying to learn to program in machine language. When I was a kid I had one and programmed in Basic, but machine language scared me off..

What would I need to get started? I know I had to use a Basic cartridge to program in Basic...

    Anybody got any advice? Thanks.

  8. I knew it would happen sooner or later! I admit, my Intellivision has never been at the top of my list, but I have a few games I really like - B-17 bomber comes to mind along with a couple others...

Just the other day though, I scored a White Water! by Imagic. What a cool game!! Works well with the controller, great graphics, interesting gameplay - especially how you have a team of rafters and you're constantly trying to save the ones falling out of the raft - very neat.

Anyone else love this game? Imagic rules. :)

  9. Is it just me, or does this game need a trakball edition way worse than missile command? I have yet to play Missile Command TB - and I'd like to have it - but I never really minded how that one controlled with the joystick.

I really liked arcade crystal castles, but the control on this one really hurts! I am really impressed by the graphics and levels present, but it's just not much fun wrestling Bently around with the akward joystick control. Anyone else feel the same? Who else would love to see Crystal Castels TB 8) ?

  10. Anybody know where I can go to find instructions for intellivision games online? I know about the official Intellivision Lives! website, which seems to have most of the Mattel instructions.... but I'm trying to find Imagic instructions and other 3rd party instructions.

    Any help appreciated!
