As a kid I used to REALLY like Commando Raid.... it was cool how the guys dig under your gun!!
Got it again a while ago for my collection and played it. Still pretty fun, I must say.

Thanks Room 34!!
Problem solved.

OK, that should help... but I don't think I'm downloading it right....
I went to SourceForge.net to download Stella 1.3, and there were about 6 files - do I need to download all of these? I just downloaded the first one, and opened it/tried to run it, but got nothing...
This is retarded, I know, but what am I missing?

Hi,
I'm trying (with no success) to get Stella working on my Mac.
Could anybody direct me to where I can find out (step by step if poss.) how to install and run Stella on my Mac OSX?
I had it for windows on my PC, and I just clicked on the downloaded file and Presto!! ... not so lucky this time I guess.
Thanks in advance for help.

OK, this may be stupid,
I check the store section, and a few hacks/homebrews are listed.
One, in particular, I'd like to get is a DC version of Super Sprint.
Does AtariAge only list a few at a time, and how do you get others you've seen previously?
Thing is, sometimes I see something cool I want, but when I have money, no more listing
? Any info? --- Thanks.

ANYBODY remember this game? I think I have the name right.... I used to play it on my Atari 800 - I had it on tape. I THINK it was called "Getaway" and was by Sierra on Line.
Anyone?

My brother was in town over the holidays, and of course we got together for video games. This year we kept it strictly 2600 and here are the games we played the most:
Armor Ambush (stands the test of time better than Combat IMHO)
Megamannia
Dragonfire (Alternating turns w/waves makes good 2 plyr.)
Ice Hockey (still GREAT after all these years!)
Anyone else do any versus gaming recently? Which games do you like to go head to head on best?

OK, my wife and I are re-doing the basement into an Atari heaven of sorts
! While this is going on, my new purchases (including a new footpedal controller) sit in the closet.Anyway, I wonder what games will be most benefitted by this fine new controller? Fortunately, I have an Atari hooked up upstairs while the construction goes on - so I'm not without games. I'm playing the bejeezus out of the AWESOME Thrust - and I know this will rock with the DC and Foot pedal. Also I look forward to playing Stargate with the foot pedal - this will work, no?
What am I missing? Foot Pedal users, sound off.

Yes, I'll buy a book! Please make it so.

I'm planning to buy an odyssee 2 .... Do I want one with detachable joysticks, or hard wired?
The answer seems obvious (detachable) but I've read in an FAQ that they have weird RF cables that are hard to find converters for.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Well, my Intellivision broke!
Time to get a new one. Should I just get another original one, or try a 2 or 3? I know 2 and 3 have detachable controllers (but it seems you can't find replacements easily so... ? )Also, I know some games are incompatable... So... is there anything FOR getting a 2 or 3?
Thanks in advance for any help!

One more vote for Video Pinball - Game 3... Also Megamania.

To be perfectly honest, I never play any music when I'm playing video games. I always play the game as it was intended...allowing the game's audio (no matter how rudimentary or annoying) to do its thing.I hear you, I like the sound effects too. I don't turn them off, I just like to add to the atmosphere a little. As a kid, I often played the radio or some new record while playing games too, that's all.
-
River Raid, Stampede and, recently, LOTS of Video Pinball, game 3.
-
Do you mean game music, because that has been posted a lot before. But I don't listen to regular music while playing games.I mean regular music. Since 2600 games (mostly) don't have music, I like to create a soundtrack.

-
What's your choice for a soundtrack for your 2600 gaming sessions?
I like to keep the time period of the tunes roughly the same as the games... Something about 80s pop mixes just right w/the sound effects. (Not to mention adds a touch of nostalgia  )
Currently I have a Gary Numan mix in heavy rotation!! (minus "cars" - I've just heard it too much)

First, to any who know, a question:
How do you know (or do you?) which PAL games will work on NTSC? I picked up a cheap "Bobby Geht Heim" to test it out - and my screen rolls. My TV is about a year old - I thought maybe newer TVs worked better?
Anyway, this leads to my second question.... I've noticed on Ebay how many games I want are being sold from Germany/England etc. , usually NEW for about $5 when the same games are nowhere to be seen here - or really expensive! Is there just more interest in collecting here - or is there just so much surplus? Needless to say, I'd buy a bunch if I thought they'd play on my TV!!!
I'm sure this is a tired ques/topic - forgive me!!

I was just watching the video "Stella at 20", and I saw a game I can't identify playing in the background of one of the interviews..
It looked like 2 horses w/ riders shooting a ball at a goal... Anyone know this game?
-
B-17 Bomber!
The best ... back when I first saw(heard) it, I just couldn't believe how cool it was.

-
OK, I know I'm not alone.
I was about to post a plea for the exact same thing!

-
Cool ! I've got some new games to hunt down - I can see that.
Where can I find Sadistroids? Anyone know?
-
Spike's peak... hmmm... I've never played that one.... And I've never even HEARD of "Sadistroids" - a hack of Asteroids ?
-
I think the most fun 2600 games to play are the hardest - the ones that make you hit the reset switch ONE more time to try and do a little better. I was wondering which games you think are the hardest?
I'll nominate Astrosmash and Jr. Pac man!

-
At GameStop I noticed they have these generic system cases ... like the ones they for PS2 or Xbox, but without the logos. They're padded and zip up and have some storage on them it looks like.

Donkey Kong
in Atari 2600
Posted
I'm SURE this isn't the first time this topic has been discussed, but....
Who else would like to see someone take another crack at Donkey Kong on the 2600? When I play new homebrews like Thrust (and even old games like Montezuma's revenge, Hero, Ptfall 2) I just can't help but wonder how well it COULD have been done.
I'll never forget buying that game in the early 80s and wondering ..... when is the elevator level coming?,,, never.... ugggh... Much as Pac-Man is ridiculed, this one hurt way worse!
