Yes, this is what I did. 5V from a pc psu and it boots. I use it for my amstrad too, 5V for mainboard and reversed 12V for the internal drive and 12V for external 3.5" Also my amiga supplied too from it. The main purpose is to build it as a multi psu for my machines.

Now the LED is ok, after 5 mins just displays random 3-4 characters of this : @ Thank you all for your answers!

Just replaced ram chips but the condition remains the same.

Hello everybody, My real name is Dimitris and I am finally a happy 800XL owner. I love this machine for years now and I managed to find one in a decent price. But the good news stops here for me as after a few hours problems appeared. The machine gave me a black screen and power led dimmed half bright. I replaced the psu with a PC one and did a recap to the mobo just incase. Now the machine starts but after 2-3 mins it is going black and when I turn it on again red screen appears. Sometimes it displays static random ascii characters all over the place and when I turn it on again it is ok. I checked the memory chips and they are cold. Some other customs are hot but just a bit. I wish we can find a solution cause I really want to hear POKEY in it's full glory. Thanks in advance.
