  1. If I connected either back port of just one drive directly to the back of the computer instead, could I plug the printer directly into the other port at the back of that drive?
  2. Hello all. I have 2 of the 1541 drives and an MP803 printer that I am trying to hook up to the C64 all at the same time. Is this possible just with what I have and a few serial cables, or is some external interface needed? (I couldn't find this exact set up diagram in the manual, but if someone has their system set up like this and can send me the steps to hook it up, it would help me out!) Thank you
  3. Ed, just wanted to share with you that it we had success! It was the 9v that was needed to wake the Axiom up from the dead, and it printed instantly to the printer. I just wanted to thank you and everyone here for being patient and solving this issue. The manual calling it "self powered" I think just made it convoluted for me, or any of us who are barely familiar with voltage, polarity, etc. Anyway, thanks again for going those extra miles!
  4. Magnavox 15" 15MF400T/37. Looks like around $10 total for that replacement adapter.
  5. Hi there.. so after thinking about it, knowing my lack of knowledge and comfort level with soldering, isolating, etc. it sounds like a replacement plug is the way I would be going with this. After all, it's not a lot of money, heck I have spent more than that on what turned out to be a bad sandwich! Thanks for you help carlsson!
  6. Hello, is anyone familar with/ever used a Star SG-10C printer? I threaded the typewriter-like ribbon according to the diagram correctly, and on the self test, it prints the first line ok, but then the ribbon slips down and doesn't stay engaged so the print head can swiftly move over it; I find the ribbon soon out of alignment and thus no inked characters are further printed. Is this a repair adjustment for alignment on the printer itself I need to get done, or will simply installing a new ribbon do the trick, with the thought that a new ribbon may not be as "loose"? Any thoughts? Thanks!
  7. By the way, the monitor is the Magnavox 15" LCD HDTV Monitor 15mf400t/37 which takes a 12 v plug. The one I found was actually $12 + tax. Is there an even cheaper generic 12v adapter plug that will suffice?
  8. wow, your answer was really impressive... thank you. Darn, ok. I actually did what you said... I found an older flat monitor with the red and white RCA audio and yellow video RCA jack. It didn't have its power adapter and since I bought it used at a rummage sale, I was debating whether I wanted to gamble the $15 for its adapter, knowing perhaps that it still may not work. Maybe that isn't such a bad idea to roll the dice with that after all, considering the alternative!
  9. Ed, will try the 9v tomorrow and post my findings In the mean time, in an unrelated issue on a C64 thread that I posted but got no response yet, maybe you know this simple monitor cable answer: Hello all. I have the white C64 and found I had the composite video cable for use with a modern flat screen monitor, (cable with din on one end for the back of the C64 ending with RCA red, white audio and yellow video cable on other end.) Problem is, the back of the monitor has its own cable plugged in fine to the monitor, (but no RCA ports.) The other end of its cable is show in the photo. Is there an adapter that will take the end of the cable shown to accept the red white and yellow RCA ends of the composite cable? If anyone knows, please send me the link. Thanks!
  10. Thanks. I do live in the boonies, and it seems that no one in this area would even have a clue about these anyway, as everything in the next town is so "high tech"... so it may be difficult. But I can add getting it fixed to the "maybe someday" list...
  11. Ed, thanks so much for looking into this...wow A+ for effort. I did attempt reading that manual myself but I didn't even understand all that jumper business... Anyway, so where we are in the story now is.... I plugged in my adapter set to 6v, adjustable polarity tip touching the "+", plugged it into the Axiom then the wall. Axiom connected to Speech Syn to TI. Printer cable end not connected to the printer. Pressed and held the space bar while I turned on the TI. Result: I heard a beep and it quickly turned to a blank, but black screen. This is a good sign I am thinking because now this tells us that it at least sees the Axiom. Now we just have to figure how the printer figures into this when connected and why it isn't printing. I wonder if I should try the 9v and the 12v next and hook up the printer to the Axiom now?
  12. Well, I had pounded them for at least 4 dozen times each, but to no success. Oh well... we tried, and thanks ver much for trying to help me. I guess it could just "go" at any time, it was just weird it happened when it was working perfectly just a second prior to its demise. I just packed it away now with the hope that I may run in to someone in my travels who is near me and who isn't chicken like I am to open up and tinker. C'est la vie.
  13. Hello all. I have the white C64 and found I had the composite video cable for use with a modern flat screen monitor, (cable with din on one end for the back of the C64 ending with RCA red, white audio and yellow video cable on other end.) Problem is, the back of the monitor has its own cable plugged in fine, and no RCA jacks. The end of its cable is show in the photo. Is there an adapter that will take the end of the cable shown to accept the red white and yellow RCA ends of the composite cable? If anyone knows, please send me the link. Thanks!
  14. Ok, let me know here when you do so I can take a look, thanks!
  15. Just to clarify, the shift keys are not pressed down and thus stuck. They look the same as the other keys, so I don't know how well the screwdriver would work. Perhaps, as others suggested, the problem is inside. I am about to pack it up for a rainy day repair, since doing anything inside the computer is beyond my comfort level.
  16. Stephen, you were right, the CAPS key prevented any lower case letters. Shift+CAPS thus N/A to force uppercase here, and hitting the caps and typing letters resulted in no lowercase letters. Here are pics of the top, right side, bottom and back. To remedy this problem, must I really unscrew the screws and take the whole thing apart a la You Tube videos, or can I get at the stuck and/or dirty key by taking the letters off from the keyboard? New to this, I don't know how to do that either. I feel like a total boob, which I am otherwise not.
  17. Sure... After powering on my 800XL, there's the READY prompt. I simply pressed the 1234567890 keys in succession, thus each character shown on the screen corresponds to each number key pressed. (Forgive the over closeness to the screen and glare in the photo.)
  18. I couldn't try out that small program above, because the issue is that I can't enter in any line numbers since I have no numbers on the keyboard currently. Before my last resort, which is opening her up and tinkering (which I am SO hesitant to do!) .... is there any POKE commands that may reset this? The reset button does nothing to hep the issue, nor a cold power off power on cycle.
  19. Wallwart is working fine, as I grabbed it from 9v use on my tiny Yahama keyboard. This is so baffling and frustrating. There is another Axiom Parallax sitting on Ebay for $50, but untested, so.... I'm hesitant to roll the dice! Does anyone know if there is any other way to get the printer outputting? Maybe some modern gadget printer interface?
  20. I actually tried using Copy II Plus, but after I did it was still unable to load somehow? Does it need more than just those 2 files to load up for basic programming on the 2E and/or 2GS?
  21. Hello everyone. I have a 2E and 2GS, both with 5 1/4 floppy drives, and the 2GS has a 3.5 drive as well. I have Prodos for the 5 1/4 drives, but would like to get a copy on a 3.5 disk for the 2GS just for back up. Is there any way to get the 5 1/4 floppy Prodos saved to the 3.5 floppy? Could you let me know what I need/the exact steps, or if anyone has a prodos on 3.5? Thanks!
  22. So trying SHIFT and CAPS didn't make it revert to normal, and as Stephen points out, it didn't survive a power off, power on cycle. How is it possible that the letters stayed themselves, but the numbers didn't though? How much would this cost to get fixed back to normal do you think?
  23. So at least I got the speech synth working now. That still just leaves the no-printing-to-printer issue. Do you guys know an alternative way, the most inexpensive way get output to the printer, without using another Axiom Parallax interface?
  24. oops... I thought those were all caps, but on further looking, they were lower case. My apologies...
  25. How about this one for the books.... hooked up the speech synth, put in the Extended Basic cart, typed in all CAPITAL LETTERS: CALL SAY("HELLO") and instead of "hello", the computer responds with 7 consecutive of these: "uh oh" "uh oh" "uh oh" "uh oh" "uh oh" "uh oh" "uh oh" ... I couldn't believe it. I tried another phrase, again in all capital letters: CALL SAY("HI THERE")... same response. Anyone have a guess on this one? It's amazing how I am only trying to do basic things too!
