Thanks for the kudos, but I haven't made anything I'm still a green leaf! ResolaQQ deserves all the credit, he's the one that started the thread and made the emulator. I only replied to it.

 

Honestly though, creating an emulator sounds like a good programming project and an excellent way to learn, but so does improving Stella really. I can't really speak about what's involved, but this forum is full of people that know how.

(Please excuse me if this has been discussed before, or is in the wrong forum. I'm new, and there's a bit of ambiguity searching for "atari reproduction" and whatnot on the forum search.)

Basically, I'm interested in NTSC 2600 dev, but living in Australia makes obtaining a nice, working NTSC 2600 for testing cumbersome. This is amplified by the fact that potential cartridge-bound hardware projects could blow electrical components, meaning I'd have to stock up on recycled ICs if they went pear-shaped. Which got me thinking: While it's incredibly ambitious and immensely above my level, would it be possible to produce a reproduction of the TIA and/or RIOT based on schematics such as the ones found here: https://atariage.com/2600/archives/schematics_tia/index.html, or obtain some kind of code for altering an FPGA or using a microprocessor to emulate said chips? I am really not experienced with electronics at all yet, so if anyone knowledgeable about these topics could please let me know the problems or benefits of what I'm wondering about, that would be great.

Okay guys, I need some advice.

 

I plan on ordering an NTSC Atari 2600 online from the US (I don't have a PAL version yet either, but I'm working on it). Either from EBay or the marketplace here. Anyway, I've heard that you can use a PAL power adapter on an NTSC model, but those guys were from the UK. Does anyone know if an Australian adapter would work? I don't think there would be any problem getting an Australian adapter, I've seen third-party ones for sale online or I could get a generic adapter from a supplier. I have a CRT TV downstairs that can take NTSC signals so I don't think that receiving video signals will be an issue. I'd also like to know which iteration of the 2600 to get (Vader, Light Sixer, Junior etc)

 

TL;DR:

 

• Will an Australian 2600 power adapter work on an NTSC 2600 from the US?
• What model 2600 should I aim for?

Sounds fantastic. I'm a budding C++ programmer with an interest in 6502 assembly, and coincidentally I've been thinking of learning ARM assembly too. I would love to see this come into fruition, even though I'm new haha.
