yes, of course, it is very small device so it fits into STE without ptoblem. And as it needs 7-12V you can use internal power supply. I would be interested in 2 (maybe 3 if not cost prohibitive) 1 interanl and 1 external. It would work in a Mega STE as well? Thanks

Who is interested in an Atari TT upgrade
twbrown replied to TXG/MNX's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Hi. For me, and all I've done to my Falcon (CT60 Falcon/Wizztronics rack case, more) its just a love of the machine. I can't honestly say that there is a single app that I would have done the upgrade for. Although MINT certainly benefited from the increased speed/memory. Some Falcon specific demos actually do run better as well. Also, pic viewers (JPGs esp) are much faster. Lets not forget Aniplay either. I can play MP3s easily, watch videos, etc, much better than my stock Falcon could. Now, in the case of my Mega ST, accelerating it with an AdSpeed makes the BBS software I use much more responsive. I did do that specifically for that reason. So I guess there are still times when there is a valid reason for it... also it would most likely be cheeper to buy a new ACC/mem card then to buy a used vintage memory card on Ebay ect. The Atari dealers who still have them listed is about $200.00 us WITHOUT memory. If someone offers and Acc with cheap memory so much the better. If i had my druthers i would prefer one for the Mega STE. -
Who is interested in an Atari TT upgrade

I would be interested in one. My TT has the 8mb card in it now and i was wanting to try easymint but haven't had luck finding a reasonable priced one on this side of the pond. alas the ones on Ebay were sniped -
You'll get a bunch of different answers on this, as the topic has come up several times. Does it work? Yes in many cases it will, depending on the mechs. And you should tape over the HD detect hole. This of course is only good for 9 sector 80 track floppy images. 10 sector, 80+ track, or custom formatted disks are a problem. The other problem is that it often doesn't work very well. As in the image you write today may not work in a few days on that floppy any more. DS/DD floppies are your best bet, but failing that it can't hurt to fiddle around with HD floppies. Goggle it I did the same and lucked out and got like 40 boxes of the ds/dd disk for a song. shipping and all was under $100.00 (they weigh a bit too ) these were also named brand not the generic ones (Maxell)

Hello so if its a go were looking at approx 24 pounds total? 17 for device and 7 for postage correct? That seems fair to me as I don't mine paying a bit more for the external case over the PCB..also i have bought several items from GB off EBAY and haven't had any problems with them arriving in a timely manner (sometimes faster then something from California or Washington state) but if the signature make you more at ease thats cool with me..let me know if you can talk them into it and thanks twbrown

Hello I saw the Ebay boxed version that was up for GB only..will the versions you sell be the same or will it be as in the piccy without the case over the PCB? Thanks twbrown

twbrown replied to techie_alison's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Hello all Anyone selling these on this side of the pond (USA) ? or do you have to order direct from Chris? -
LOL really need an edit function....sorry about the post which has nothing to do about his problem long day at work to blame i guess

The only time I get a white screen on my TT is when the memory expansion has worked its way loose (not sure why but every now and then it does) once I press the board down a bit it boots ok. maybe your tos roms have gotten loose? or one of the memory sticks

Hummm Anyone out there got a HDTV yet? With its superior display I would think it would look as good or better then a Comp Monitor. HDTV Televisions are getting within an acceptable price range now (1 with built in HDTV tuner for US $699.00 at wally world) that may be a route to go as well.

Aye agreed..would be nice if someone picked up the ball on the cart port adaptor..Has anyone approached any of the present upgrade makers about doing one for the cart port? Might be a good idea to start a discussion and see how many would be interested in one and maybe tempt them with a list of people who would like to buy one? if there is enough interest surely someone will consider it..

I tried installing easymint on my TT..it seems to run but then gets to a part where all is does is have "init not found" (as you can guess i'm new to the unix/linux world so don't have a clue) what i need is to find an idoits guide for it..is easymint/sparemint that different from say the regular unix? if it isn't i may try to find a guide on it in non tos format. Thanks

well HD is working at last! The HD floppy is a different matter..it will reconize a 1.44 disk. I can load programs ect but cannot format a HD disk..I can live witht that as most MSDOS floppys are preformatted..also this is without twisting the floppy connector or setting the switch..if i do that it won't work at all. Thanks alot greenious for all the help

Okies thanks for the tips I will give it a go this weekend and see if i can get it working (on both hd and floppy drives) also i was wondering is all the shielding necessary? Its a pain to fool with removing it to check chips and upgrade and from the looks of the metal twisties its been opened alot, some are so bent the shielding doesn't want to go back in all the way
-
Okies mine has an epsom SMD-340 as well..i toggled the 7th dipswith on the block and no go..what version floppy controler chip you have?
-
I haven't checked yet..but willing to bet its a 720k as I think it was one of the first released..gonna check that now and HD still a no go

ok thanks for the info well it has termination block as follows . . >Enable . . >Unused . . >power I have the jumper on Unused (since it is a single drive) the only other jumpers are as follows . . > #1 . . > #2 SCSI ID jumpers . . > #4 . . > Fault . . > Busy . . > +5v DC . . > Spin UP (enabled) . . > AC low . . > Reserved . . > SP Sync Those are all the jumpers on the drive..i tried to disable parity thru HD Driver but didn't work i assume. i looked for the drive on google to get a data sheet but it might be so old that they don't have one..I will look again to see if i missed it Thanks again for the assist
