I've noticed that this thread got real big very quick.

I am not sure that this would be the appropriate place for my project in the first place when I think I should have started it in programing.

Either way, I am going to direct all updates to my profile page that was given me when I signed up on this website.

    https://atariage.com/forums/profile/79376-captain-cozmos/

Thanks to all who like my work.

I would think that the thread has slowed down due to the decision to post the info on the profile page.  Traditionally, most people will post about their projects here as members can follow along and it's easy to subscribe to get updates (like how I see them), but I don't see the updates posted to your profile page.

Just downloaded the most recent ROM.  Looking good!

What I have noticed is that until scrolling stops at the top or the bottom the Eye's stay in the middle of the play field then it moves.  Scrolling resumes when it they make it back to the middle.

Yep.  That's why I waited until the eyes got to the middle and it started scrolling when I did my comparison test.  Honestly, I thought it looked really good!  Looking forward to seeing more.

Well… My thread certainly has gotten massively derailed. Is there any chance of splitting this off to its own topic? My topic is not about the DDP or Donkey Kong Jr. or how to control it on an Adam.

I honestly thought about splitting it off, or hiding the posts that weren't relevant, but I decided to just keep it the way it is and hope it gets back on track.

  4. Personally, I would think that a "Quest for the Golden Chalice" type re-make of Haunted House would be a wonderful addition to the ColecoVision library!  Putting on my 22 years of game development hat, my advice would be:

Keep the original game in tact, plus up the graphics for the CV, and then maybe add in one or two extra quests or something just to give it a little more appeal.  Since you're making a "port" of another game, there will be expectations for it to be similar in design to the original, however adding maybe a bit more to it since the original game was a 2600 title and you're porting it to a more robust console.  But overall, don't add too many features to it and end up with a game you can't complete or a game that strays too far away from the original material.  Keep your goals reachable!  There's always room to release a sequel or update to it later!

Well i will look tommorow into it,can you show me the windows version of coolcv?

I'm not sure what you mean.  That's the Windows version of CoolCV in those photos of that you quoted.

If you mean where to download the Windows version, you can find it here:

But I thought you had already downloaded it and installed it?

  6. So I just downloaded CoolCV for Windows and also downloaded that .ddp file again, and I was able to drag the file onto the icon in Windows just like I could on the Mac and it worked just fine....

There is the file in my folder and you can see I made a shortcut to CoolCV on my Windows desktop. I dragged the file from the folder on top of the shortcut...

And it loaded up just fine...

All of that took me (checks watch) 4 minutes to download everything, unzip the files, install CoolCV, drag the file over and it worked.  I'm not sure what you're doing wrong at this point, but I can confirm that it does work, and unfortunately I don't know how to help you any further.  Sorry.

Well eh i am using the windows version of coolcv, mmm

Does it not work the same way?  While I use CoolCV on my Mac I use Stella on my Windows computer and I just drag the rom file onto the Stella icon and it opens the game instantly....

@nanochess - Can you launch a game this way on CoolCV for Windows?

But did you dragged the game into a specefic map from that emulator? ,i dragged it into the rom map,but still no luck, also i find no options in the emulator itself, mmm

    thanks alot anyway.

I literally just drag the file from where I downloaded it, and drag it on top of the CoolCV icon that is in my dock.

And then CoolCV opens right up and plays the game...

I'm not sure what you mean by "specific map."  I just dragged the file onto the icon for the program. That's how a lot of Mac programs work. For example if I need to open an image file, I just drag the .jpg into the Photoshop icon. I drag a .xls file onto Excel, etc.  So by dragging the .ddp file onto the CoolCV icon, it just automatically loads up that game.

I'm not sure how to explain it any further, sorry.

Hi, downloaded the emulator coolcv i but those wanted ddp and dsk coleco rom in the rom folder from macosx and in the rom folder of the main list, but when i open up the emulator, it say’s turn off game before inserting cartride or expansion module,so i don’t see any rom list and there is no other option i can choose,

i wonder what i did wrong and what am supposed to do,thanks alot.

I'm not sure, but I downloaded the .ddp file and dragged it into CoolCV and it worked just fine, so you might want to post the question in the CoolCV thread to see if Oscar might have an answer for you.

  11. I'm going to assume the original design was probably not too far off on how the ADAM handles loading games from a DDP.  If you had the SGM connected, inserted a wafer tape, pressed the reset button, the load would happen off the wafer tape very similar to how the ADAM loads a game from the DDP.  That's at least my "educated guess."

  12. Cleaned up this thread to remove pointless off-topic drama.  You all are 100% right, especially this...

I do not agree with what is said (for this thread) with some peoples views/opinions... but they have a right to express them (as often as the like)...

Please continue to carry on expressing your issues with the console. And I will simply continue to enjoy mine.

I said what I felt I wanted to say, and many of you replied, and that is fine.  That's how it works.

But when additional drama and/or personal attacks are introduced that have nothing to do with the topic, that's when I step in and have to moderate.  I don't like having to do that, so please don't push me in that direction.  Thank you.

    Carry on, everyone...

I don't think there is anything that's ever "100%" compatible with everything, at least I've never come across anything that is.

You're absolutely correct. As someone who spent a significant amount of time with the PC Compatibility lab when I worked for Activision in the early 2000s, I can tell you that even professionally shipped games had issues on some machines.  And that was just the reality of how development went.  We tested games on literally THOUSANDS of combinations of mother boards, sound cards, graphics cards, CD-ROM drives, etc, but no matter how much compatibility testing you did, there was always going to be someone out there who had a system a game just didn't work on, and all you could say was "Sorry, we did our best..."  And yes, we would later patch games and fixes issues that made sense to, but not everything was able to be addressed.

That's just how it is.  You can ask for a refund, you can play it on a different system, you could get a different sound card/graphics card/etc, but asking for everything to be 100% compatible with everything is simply an unrealistic expectation.

And that's not my personal opinion, that's based on my professional video game publisher experience.

My main point, though, is just to remind anyone who might be offended by any constructive criticism being offered

    I'm not offended.  I'm annoyed.  There's a huge difference! :P

I legit respect everything that CollectorVision is doing and I 100% do believe that they will live up to their promises with updates, fixes, and cores.

What "annoys" me is the constant stream of complaining by a very small group of people with very loud voices who just seem to be impatient regardless of how many times JF or someone from CollectorVision may say "Please be patient...we are working on it and we will deliver."

Because the reality is two things here:

    1. The Phoenix works just fine for probably 99.9% of people.  And those .10% just seem to enjoy bringing up the same issues over and over again.

    2. Not everything in the world is going to work like "Amazon Prime" and get done instantly.  These are all people who have day jobs and families who do things like program games, hardware, and ship thousands of packages in their spare time.

And all I'm saying is if you can't be patient, and you can't them give them time it takes to address those minor issues, then just simply sell your console to someone who will appreciate it as it currently is.  Because there's a shit ton of those people out there.

Trust me... if 99% of the people were having that HDMI problem, it would get fixed ASAP. But the reality is, I see people posting in this forum, in the Lunatics Group, in the CollectorVision groups every single day using their Phoenix without any problem at all.  So I can fully appreciate and understand why fixing a minor issue that affects so few people hasn't been a top priority.  On their radar?  Yes.  But #1 on the "to do list?"  I wouldn't think so.

There are plenty of other homebrew projects that have taken YEARS and still haven't shipped. CollectorVision made good...they made DAMN GOOD on their promise in a very reasonable amount of time.  Give them some time to work out that last .10% of the issues.

    Thanks for hearing me out.
