1. I don't own a Mac so someone else built and tested the software for me, so I actually don't have much of an answer for you. There software has been downloaded a few times though, so perhaps someone out there has used it. Have you tried perhaps a different directory? Chad Yes, tried different directory, and different machines too. I wonder what type of system this was tested on. I have to force it to run through the Terminal, as it will not launch by itself. Guess at this point I will have to dig out my old cheap PC I bought years ago, for times like this! Is there a way to contact this person who wrote the Mac version of the software?
2. Anyone else here using a Mac to load software for the Cuttle Cart 3? I've tried running the software, but it keeps telling me it can't open the 'gamelist.txt' file. Darn thing is, it 'is' in the same directory as the program, so I'm stumped on this one.
3. Has anyone mentioned that the O2 can do polyphonic sounds!!! And yes, this is true! Just wait as see... Not having visited this post since last June, I can't believe the hate here between the O2 and 2600. Can't gamers jut get along! I have both systems, and guess which one I play the most! The Odyssey2! Why, it's hard to say, but the games are one reason. Mr. Roboto which just came out just kicks ass. And just wait until that new game in the works with the polyphonic sounds comes out. You won't believe what the O2 can do with sound. Oh, and for the one person a bit back that cut Mr. Roboto for being programmed poorly - all I have to say is GET BENT! The game is great, and you have no idea of what a good game is. Ted did a wonderful job on that game!!! As for the folks who keep posting that Pick Axe Pete has no point - if that is the case, why is it one of the popular games for the Odyssey2! That's because it is a very good game! If you don't get it - as I've stated June 2005 - then you just don't get it. Deal with it and move on..... As CCC--- mentioned though - it is fun to see all the 2600 fan boys cutting the O2 (and don't say you are not fan boys - it's so damn obvious). Thanks for the the entertainment. And in case you are wondering, I like both the O2 and 2600. Yes, I like the O2 better, but that doesn't mean I don't like games on the 2600. Robot Tank comes to mind right away - super fun game. Guess I'm a fan boy of both systems...
4. If you just want an XE light gun, B&C sells them for... ACA053 LIGHT GUN ATARI - BOXED 29.95 FOR SENTINEL ACA057 LIGHT GUN ATARI NO BOX 19.95 http://www.myatari.com/bc7800.txt Not too bad a price. I just got the gun myself (don't care about the box)
5. The O2 hardware is designed to display four sprites that can be any shape, twelve objects whose shapes are predefined (letters, numbers, the walking man, etc.), and four groups of four horizontally-arranged objects each whose object shapes are likewise predefined. My guess from your description would be that the O2 is using some tricks to form the chessmen out of 'pieces' of the predefined shapes. Sorta clever if that's what they're doing. Any possibility of a screenshot? 884531 Ok. Thanks for the info. I'm really into the O2, but honestly don't know much about programming it (yet) and how it exactly works. As for Chess screen shots, you may have to wait a bit. I've got a working Europe system and the game, but no way to get it into my computer (not yet, it's on the back burner, along with a ton of other projects). Sorry... I could take a screen picture, but they always turn out like crap. (I'll see what I can do though - no promises).
6. What do the graphics look like? Since the O2 only has four sprites, I'd think they'd have to so something interesting to 'jinx' the graphics, but I can't think how that would work. I don't think the 8048 is fast enough for 'venetian blinds'; does the cart do somethng else? 880903 Graphics are fairly simplistic, as with most Odyssey2 games. As for sprites, I'm not sure on the technical part of it, but it can display far more than 4 object on the screen with no flicker at all (that's one thing I've always like about the O2). Chess displays the whole board, with somewhat unique graphics for the pieces. OF course, the cart is not really just a cart, but an add-on component. This contains the extra ROM and RAM space to be able to actually play a decent game of chess.
7. Well Ozyr, I like to add some games to your list Super bee Looney Ballon Blobbers Neutron Star Clay Pigeon Demon Attack Q*bert Super Cobra Frogger Air Battle 881749 Thanks for the additions. I totally aggree with these, especially Q*bert and Frogger.
8. Yes, I remember the INTV version. Worse than the 2600 version. I love the ice cream comparison. It explains the difference between these game perfectly. Marvelous!!!
9. Yes! It's plays a pretty good game of chess. Graphics are ok, but not great.
10. and for the people who keep saying there are only about 5-6 good games for the O2, here's my list of game that I think are good: Alien Invaders - Plus! (yes, I like this one) Amok! Atlantis Attack of the TimeLord! Cosmic Conflict! Freedom Fighters! K.C. Munchkin! K.C.'s Krazy Chase! Kill The Attacking Aliens Killer Bees! Monkeyshines! P.T. Barnum's Acrobats! Planet Lander Pong (yes, this new compilation is rather good - just my opinion) Quest For The Rings Smithereens! Turtles! UFO! that's more than 5. Sure, it's not a ton, but there were only about 50+ games made for this system (in the states). As the title of the post says, the Odyssey2 in underatted. No, I don't think it is the best system, not by a long shot. But it still has it's share of good game, and is a system I think is worthy of collecting.
11. Nonsense. DK has an obvious objective besides being a high score game: get to the girl. It's easy to figure out what is happening and why. PAP is a high score game only. Going thru the doorway changes nothing in terms of game play. Without reading the book, it's mess of just breaking rocks and grabbing random crap for no apparent reason. It doesn't hold a candle to DK in any shape or form. Even the VCS version of DK. 880149 Sure DK has an objective, but the 2600 version just plain sucks. Sorry, but that is what I think of it. I've played that version, and I really don't care for it. As for PAP being a high score only game, that is what you think of it. When I really get into this game, I do not watch the score. I concentrate on staying alive for as long as possible - which can be rather challenging. (kind of like asteroids - no big objective other than staying alive a getting points) Quess we just dissagree on this game. That's the way it is.
12. Man, talk about the 'I hate the O2' thread. As for the folks who hate this system, well, it's just your opinion, and nothing else. Personally, I love this thing. I've had an O2 for years (well, actually about 6 of them), and play them on a regular basis. I'll aggree that some of the games suck, but a vast majority of the Challenger series are just great. As for the person who 'doesn't understand Pick Axe Pete', I would figure you don't understand Donkey Kong either! This is one of the best games for the O2. Well, as I've always said, you either love it or hate it. There are very few people in the middle. All I have to add is: UFO vs Asteroids (2600) = UFO wins! KC Munchkin vs Pac-Man (2600) = KC wins! Pick Axe Pete vs Donkey Kong (2600) = PAT wins! Ah, you guys just don't get it...
13. Um... I have bought shrink wrapped games that we used. Some stores (places, whatever) can re-shrink wrap the boxes. So just because it's wrapped is no 100% gaurantee that it is new. And some games were not shrink wrapped. Depends on the system, etc. Personally, if the game looks mint - even without wrap - I consider it new. Period. Just my opinion..
14. Count me in. I'd buy this CV expansion unit(s). Sounds really great!
15. Man, not too many O2 folks in this post - at least those who like the system. Myself, I play games on it every week. Just love the system! Why, I just do - even the new KTAAA, Planet Lander, and Pong. It has a fairly decent amount of good games (later ones), and they are cheap enough to come by. Heck, they have homebrews for this thing finally, 3 or 4 in 2004. As for Quest for the Rings, I don't play that too much. I used to, but it really needs two or more people - and I just don't get that chance much lately.
16. Pong finally released for the Odyssey2!!! For those who have Pong on the O2 Multi-cart, or the online ROM version, the cart is an improved version. Pong now has more game variations, and actual endings for most variations (the original went on forever), and more. In all, a pretty cool collection of 11 different Pong games.!!! I really like the manual too (having helped create it is sure helped with that) As for the other stuff, I really love that O2 poster!!!
17. Somewhat rare - not as much as some people would say. I've seen it at plenty of places locally for around $18. On ebay, it goes for much, much more.
18. Without checking my list, here's what I'm sure I have: Sinclair ZX81 Timex/Sinclair 1000 Timex/Sinclair 1500 Timex/Sinclair 2068 TI 99/4A Commodore 64 Apple IIE Apple IIGS Apple IIC and a huge collection of classic Macintosh systems (68000 chipset and up)
19. Dieter does it again! I am just amazed at the things you keeps doing for the Odyssey2/Philips fans! Thank you!!!
20. Oh, almost forgot, the screen cut-off still exists, even in Rene's modified version. Basically, the symbols on the bottom that represent men, bombs, etc are almost totally cut off the screen bottom. Not a big deal, but still...
21. I emailed René van den Enden on this, and he has a modified version that only flickers on the top few lines only. Much better on the eyes. Not sure how it could be fixed totally though. I think you know him - you could ask him to post his modified version on your site.
22. It is really a shame that Frogger won't work on O2 machines, it's imo one of the very best Videopac games. But it's great that the Brazilian Frogger release can help out you guys ... it's even better, because the frog in the title screen twinkles! The frog in the Euro version doesn't ... Before we release Tutankham on cart we will check if it will work on O2 machines. I know a guy in The Netherlands who is VERY good in Videopac technics, if it should not run I will ask him to look if he can patch it Just a note here Dieter - I've got a C7030 loader cart, and tried Tutankham on an O2 last night (not sure if anyone else in the States has done this yet). From my experience, it does not appear to be 100% NTSC compatible!! The game does play, but the entire screen flickers, as if the game is having problem displaying the entire maze. It's still playable, but I have managed to get my guy stuck in the walls a few times - possible due to the flickering issue?! Not sure it the 'stuck wall' thing happens otherwise? Also, the game plays a bit low on the screen, but I'm going to double check this with a different TV set.
23. It's a decent deal, if the unit is clean and in good shape. Also depends on the games you got to? Power Lords it the rarest in the States. The O2 model counts a little bit, as there are 4 different models (actually 5, but this is not confirmed yet - I'm still working on this). So, what games did you get with the unit?
24. 8, 16, 32 64, 128..... Who really cares!!! It's the games that count, not the bits.....
