Anyone have a Samsung Galaxy phone? Thoughts? Pros, cons? Im looking to get one. My OnePlus Nord just isnt cutting it anymore
-
Research the models and compare prices, as newer doesn't always mean better when it comes to Samsung. My company upgrades me on a regular basis and my S22 turned out to be a bit of a disappointment compared to my previous S21. Slightly smaller screen. Smaller battery which means noticeably faster drain time. No increase in performance.
They've also long done away with the headphone jack (if that's important to you).
The cameras do get better on each model. The S22 takes incredible photos in any type of lighting...the S21 was no slouch, but the S22 definitely tops it in the photo/video department.
All the S series that I've owned (5, 8, 10, 21, 22) have been built like brick shit houses, especially when in an Otter case. Mine go through hell and back on my job and I've never even cracked a screen. Very water resistant too...my S21 went through an entire wash cycle and came out like nothing happened.
While I like the Samsung models, there are comparable alternatives at a fraction of the cost. I have an LG Premier Pro Plus that I bought new 3 years ago for a whopping $70, and it included a 1 year tracfone service card. I expected it to be a 1 year disposable phone, but I would actually choose that cheap LG over the S22. It keeps a signal in rural areas where the S22 is dead in the water. Sound from the speakers and especially the earpiece is better. Battery time on the LG is much better. Screen is about the same size and looks nearly as nice to my eyes. Also has a headphone jack. While the camera quality isn't nearly as good as the S22, it's still takes nice photos and videos.
I don't play games on phones, but if I did, the S22 would probably be much better performance wise.
Overall the LG is pretty nice at 1/10 the cost of a Samsung.

I love when dumbfucks are making a left turn as youre approaching an intersection to make a left turn and they decide to cut into YOUR lane as youre coming toward them. If my car was a piece of shit id rev toward them so they hit me and insurance claim it for a new car

Recently talked to coworkers about this (even tried Googling it a few days ago, but it's too hard to put into words). Seems to be a new phenomena that started just a few years ago in my area. Can't tell you how many times I've damn near had a head on collision. I purposely make a big scene, pull the high beam and lay on the horn. And if I'm in my company truck, I ain't moving, you're going to make a big effort to avoid me.
How fucking hard is it to go 5 more feet and turn your steering wheel an extra half turn?
You'd think maybe it's a learned generation thing, but it's not. It's teenage drivers to senior citizens.
I also don't think it's a perspective thing in new vehicles...if it was, you'd see it more in a certain type of vehicle. As it is, these idiots are in small cars, big cars, trucks and SUVs.
Left hand turning arrows was another issue. Arrow turns from green to red, on coming traffic gets a green, but no one can go because 10 additional dumbfucks continue turning left blowing through a red light. That has drastically dropped in my area. Maybe cops finally started handing out those 4 pointer tickets.

Unfortunately, it appears that the "What have you been up to lately with your Cybiko" thread was an utter flop.

Just out of curiosity, were IntelliVisions still being sold at stores in 1985?

Interesting as GM owned Lotus and part of Isuzu at the time. I never knew they rebadged them and slapped a Kia engine in place of the more powerful Isuzu engine. The Elan is on the same platform and shares parts with the Impulse and Geo Storm.
Imo, the Impulse RS was far better than the Elan...same engine, AWD and half the price (just not convertible). I wonder if the Elan also has the vestigial drive shaft tunnel and mounting points for the rear diff like my Storm.

I didn't want to pay $2.91 a gallon at the Exxon (and that's the cheap stuff!), so after work I drove across town to King Sooper's to use my reward points (because I spent too much on groceries) and now I can save 10 cents a gallon...Off of $3.09 a gallon.
(sigh)

@fdurso224 Do you tell those people the Yugo was rated at 24 mpg (4.2 gallons per 100 miles) combined city/hwy? That's nearly the same as a modern Dodge Durango SUV with 293 HP.

I regret not buying a Virtual Boy box back when I could. I doubt that many of those remain.

15 F and the heat isn't keeping up. It is 64 with the heat set on 68.

Is it common for monochrome monitors to warm up faster than color ones?
-
What year monitors do you have? In the 70s and maybe early 80s some TVs had a sub-power circuit that kept filaments energized for a fast warm up feature. If you turned on the TV after it was unplugged, it would take much longer for it warm up. Some had a sub-power switch...you'd flip it to "vacation" to conserve power while out of town. When I was a kid, I remember looking through the vent holes in the rear of our TV and seeing the filament glow while the TV was turned off.
Do you have a kill-a-watt? If so, plug your monitors in and see if they draw power while turned off. It would be interesting to know if something as old as your PET monitor does that.

Need opinions pls. I've been looking for a crt tv for a while, finally have someone willing to sell me a 25" for 20 bucks. But it doesn't have rca ports, only one input for a coax cable. All my systems are av modded but I have a converter to connect them. Is it worth it? Does the cable connection/conversion degrade the picture?

Is there a good place to find a lot of different CP/M software?

anyone used goodolddays.net? It looks like the disk images are downloadable but I see no download link on anything.

Remember back when I was looking for ways to transfer files onto my Tandy 200, and you warned me about those cheap chinese usb to serial adapters and I got one anyways because they were cheap? Guess what: mine just broke.

Anyone recognize this tune similar to a 1984 fantasy movie's theme?

The batteries in my mouse died. Personally I think cordless keyboards and mouses suck. Why would I want to pay for and change batteries.
-
I finally got a decent mouse on Amazon for about $14 (Inphic). Charges from USB port in under 2 hours and lasts over 2 months with daily use. It goes to sleep so you don't have to remember to turn it off and you can also use it while plugged in and charging. Liked it enough that I another for my desktop.
My old Mircosoft mouse ate up an AA alkaline battery every month and you had to remember to turn it off.

Might be in possession of a Scrambler amusement park ride...I'm sure it's not legal to have in your backyard but when I eventually move to somewhere bigger, who has to know ??
-
One issue will be getting power to it. Many small rides need at least a dedicated 208 volt 3PH 100 amp feed. That's for commercial/industrial buildings. Where I am, you'll have a second utility bill each month just for that service whether you use it or not. Traveling carnivals always have a few massive generators to power all their rides.
Still sounds interesting, but do you think the fun factor will last more than a week? On the other hand, if you have a huge family and you're hosting a kid's birthday party every other month, you get an automatic dad of the year award.

Followup: I had someone come out and replace my well pump and starter circuit. I now have water again. $1800 is really going to cut into my gaming budget though.
-
That's pricey. If you watched them, you could probably do it yourself next time. My deep well is 100' down...takes me less than 2 hours and under $400 for a pump and all wear and tear parts from the local big box hardware store. Only "special" tool needed is a length of threaded pipe with a T and two small nipples at the top in case you accidentally drop it. Screw the pipe into pitless adapter, pull the cable to disconnect and yank the sucker out.

I'm having real trouble getting to sleep going on a week now. Any tips? I went for a doctor visit about it Thursday. He just thinks it's anxiety. I haven't been able to swim for 2 months, so I haven't been exercising. Yoga was recommended, but so far I'm still just laying there for hours trying to fall asleep. If I take enough melatonin I'll get to sleep, but that makes me feel groggy when I wake up. It's real frustrating to not be able to fall asleep normally.
Yesterday I had a really busy day, I mowed grass and trimmed at 2 places, for a total of about 4 hours, and had to do grocery shopping and household chores. I was very active and yet I still couldn't fall asleep until about 3am this morning. It sucks.

I ordered a USB to Serial converter to use to transfer files between my modern laptop and my Tandy 200 a week ago on eBay, and the seller hasn't shipped it yet. It was supposed to be delivered by April 4th, but it hasn't left the seller's warehouse yet. I can't cancel my order as the seller already printed the shipping label, and I don't want to return it because I'll have to pay a $3 return fee on a $5 item. I tried to contact the seller multiple times and got no replies. Just gave him some negative feedback.
-
That should work perfect. Many don't realize they need a null cable or adapter. As I'm typing this, my Model III is hooked to my desktop using the 25 pin ribbon cable, 25 to 9 adapter, null modem adapter and then the USB to serial. It works flawless. It also works perfect with my Atari 130XE SIO2PC adapter and APE software. No longer need to drag out the old PC with real RS232 ports.

I paid $11 for mine at the local Best Buy. They're usually $20 but they always seem to offer open box for much less; mine was sealed in the blister pack. My three local Best Buy stores show them in stock (curb side pickup).
They also work 100% perfectly, which isn't usually the case for no name drop ship China junk.
Do you also have a null modem?

Holy crap it's a miracle. Netflix added a checkbox to turn off the auto previews playing!
