To be fair, that message could have been from someone outside North America who isn't familiar with the geography.

That said, I don't appreciate the sneering implication that if the US does something differently from the rest of the world, then the US must be wrong. If you're looking for a date on a calendar, after all, you start by finding the month, and then a particular day within that month. MMDDYYYY gives you the information you need in the order in which you need it.

I agree that Month,Day goes more with the way I think about the calendar, but the other is logical because it's more like the way numbers are expressed. All I can say is I've been confused by it before.
