  1. Personally, when I think of all the time I spent playing llamasoft games on me C64 (Unbeliever! Heretic! Burn him!) and also what a nice chap Jeff is (I met him at one of those computer shows in London and he was very good to me when I asked what the hell was going on in Ancipital....) I don't think Atar oh, Infogrames, (lets call em what they are...) are fit to wipe his monitor. Frankly rather than threaten to sue Jeff they should have paid him a huge advance to work up a bunch more updates to their IP. Oh well I'll get me PS4 Tempest then.... PS I just bought a 2017 Flashback portable to take around with me and leave my 2016 model plugged into the TV permanently. Mainly though because they are so awesome and so cheap! (and now have 1001 games on the SD card! If Infogrames said well this nuVCS is $300 but there's 1000 games built in on there that would be a good start (and pay homebrewers for their works - royalties or one off fee).
  2. Alright peeps? I love my 2016 portable but was always messing about taking it in and out of the car/my bag and hooking it up to my little LG TV to find it's flat or can't find my TV wire etc. (1st world problems eh? I just can't get the right brand of caviar either LOL) I thought I should get a second one, not even realising there was a 2017 model with 10 more games. So I got it. I leave the 2016 plugged in to the TV and the 2017 as my actual portable :-) I had a Sandisk micro SD with SD adapter working fine on 2016. It was also fine on the 2017 so I needed to get one more SD card so I have 1000 games on both Flashbacks. This time I struggled to find a card under 8GB for cheap. So I found a 2GB Transcend microSD with adapter. Formatted it, put the new (new to Me!) 1001 bin folder on there and stuck it in the 2017. No luck at all. I actually downloaded the new V5 of the SD formatting utility, tried again, still SD browser does not get to the games list. Now for the madness, I tried the new 2GB transcend in the 2016 AFBP and it worked first time! Swapped it back to 2017, nothing.... So I just put the new 1001 bin folder on my Sandisk SD, put it in the 2017 and all is OK! It seems almost random as to whether one card/adapter will work or not. I guess as someone said above, cheap is not best eh? At least it will work with perseverance, keep trying different cards etc I'd like to say thanks to all the Atarians that contribute to this wonderful community but especially for whoever is responsible for Asses of Fire! (which I've only just seen in the new 1001 package!).
  3. " Vague release dates for pre-orders banned in Germany"https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2018-07-16-vague-release-dates-for-pre-orders-banned-in-germany LOL,the super efficient Germans don't like being jerked around
  4. Sorry I'm late! Five years late.... So does anyone have a Flip and Flop cart boxed or unboxed they'd like to sell me? Or anyone know where there are any listed for sale? Cheers,
  5. That banned guy saying either back it or shut up moaning is really saying we can't post opinions which is the path to a dictatorship. Secondly this IS not 444 pages of bullshit. I have followed this thread from day 1 and there is a lot of useful information. For example, I've only ever backed 2 kickstarter things which were dead certs, very straight forward and did what they said they would. It's only here I discovered that the option new Atari is using on Indiegogo means they can take all yer money, fail to produce anything and keep $3000000 just for fun! ...and its legal, no-one ever said it was illegal, just insane! I think that one choice alone fuels a lot of scepticism. I really wonder how it would have gone if they used kickstarter which would also require a working prototype at the outset? That is the 2 biggest things that put me off.
  6. Yeah, 1 Nu VCS isn't ON the market 2 ...but if we're talking about game and entertainment system / stuff that isn't here / for sale yet, I imagine there are quite a few folks anticipating a FONY PS5 or some other box from Microsofty.... Arf Arf...
  7. Just got an email..... "FINAL CALL: Last Day for Discounts Act NOW - Before your deal disappears. All pre-order discounts, including yours, end tonight at 11:59pm PT, so hurry and join more than 11,000 backers who've seized the moment and pre-ordered the most anticipated game and entertainment system on the market. Don't be left out. Pre-order Atari VCS now to enjoy classic and modern games on a platform that will only keep expanding, changing, and improving to meet your every gaming need. Don't miss out, there just a few hours left! Game on, Atari VCS Team" If we were in a Pub they are ringing the bell for last orders.... any takers? One last thing, if I were them, I would not use the word bomb (as in diggity). It is just how this thing may go down (it bombed... we may be saying in a years time....) I'll go back to my real Ataribox, a Lynx II with that awesome new screen from Germany and SD cart from Merry Olde England and I've also got my Flashback portable that will plug into a TV or monitor with a lot more games than the vault (which I've also already got on Steam...) Then I just need my July Tempest 4000 on me PS4 and that pretty much has it all covered already :-) Game On Chaps!
  8. I just want to say: FUCK ZUCK. I always thought everyone uploading their shit to FB was the CIA's wet dream....Thanks to Snowden, we know it's true!
  9. Oh Man, now on Discovery in the UK, Nolan Bushnell and Al Alcorn talking about Atari and Pong! (it's that Silicon Valley: The untold story series, Ep3....) "Success for Atari Inc!" "Nolan wanted to make it a fun place to work".... cue photo of the Hot Tub meeting! ...and the Mary Jane aroma.... then 1976 (? I Think....) Warners took over and put a stop to that.... Nolan thought this "Warners" Atari was losing it's soul..... Hmm I hope we get to what he thinks of the soul of Atari SA! Arf Arf
  10. Hmmmm I only just noticed on the Atari Flashback Classics: Volume 3 (2018) (PS4, Xbox One) there are 16 Atari 5200 games. So Atari SA is not completely averse to using 5200 games in Flashback/vault type collections. So presuming the Code Mystics can do 5200 games, why wouldn't Atari just pack in as many games as they can for 2600, and 5200 and hey why not then 8 bit games and 7800 games? They might think there is no more profit in putting more games built in, but they would likely sell more units. Hell I might have tried the pig in a poke pre-order if this was the case, but I will be waiting until a final product is done before even considering buying one to likely put retro arch on (If you want a job doing, do it yerself!) Everyone knows what a pig in a poke is? Wikipedia: The idiom pig in a poke refers to a confidence trick originating in the Late Middle Ages (Nothin' new eh?!!!), when meat was scarce, but cats and dogs were not. The scheme entailed the sale of a suckling pig in a poke. The bag, sold unopened, would actually contain a cat or dog, which was substantially less valuable as a source of meat. In the past, it was common for small farmers to put a pig in a cloth sack to bring it to market for sale. A poke is a sack or bag. It has a French origin as poqueand, like several other French words, its diminutive is formed by adding -ette or -et — hence pocket began life with the meaning "small bag". Poke is still in use in several English-speaking places, including Scotland and some regions of the United States. For example, among English hop growers, a poke is a large sack into which hops are poured to be taken from the picking machine to the oast for drying. The full maxim is "don't buy a pig in a poke". This is addressed in the common law by guaranteeing a seller the right to inspect goods before purchase, as in Gardner v Gray(1815) To buy a pig in a poke means that something is sold or bought without the buyer knowing its true nature or value, especially when buying without inspecting the item beforehand. The phrase can also be applied to accepting an idea or plan without a full understanding of its basis.
  11. Hmmm, I guess if it doesn't do everything people want out of the box, could we put RetroArch on it? (Linux..... I know zero about Linux) If it's possible that would be interesting. I just gathered RetroArch has so many tweakble things I doubt I could get it going on Windows never mind Linux..... and what flavour of Linux are Atari planning to use (and does it make any difference for RetroArch?) I too am extremely concerned about Indigogo..... I've backed 2 very straightforward things on Kickstarter. I wish it was Kickstarter and a bit cheaper too. I actually like the shape and the controller but I think I'll wait till 2019!!!!?????!!! to see how much it is then.... It can't be any more expensive surely?
  12. You know what a snatch is slang for? Oh so very wrong Spidey....
  13. Hey everybody, I was browsing retrogaming "TV boxes" and noticed one that has an add on: So Atari SA if you want feedback and ideas, PLEASE make a cartridge slot addon that will take original 2600, 5200 and 7800 carts (and make the software able to run them obviously). Even better if it had slots for Lynx and Jag carts! Maybe I'm a bit of a dreamer but I really think you will get a bunch more people interested if you did that, even more if you could bring that price down a bit more. I just saw an android TV retrogaming box that will stream/emulate almost anything retro for £75 Hows that for some constructive feedback? Now back to watching that girl off the telly getting hitched :-) (2 billion watching so I know I'm not the only one.....)
  14. News: It seems as if Atari just can't escape the woes of the gaming industry. This time around the company is facing a rather debilitating lawsuit from the developer of RollerCoaster Tycoon, all because there's now a big dispute when it comes to what Atari owes the developer in full. TMZ is reporting that Frontier Development is suing Atari for $2.2 million. This all stems from work done on previous RollerCoaster Tycoon games that have been released over the years, but Frontier claims that there have been no royalties paid from those sales. The $2.2 million is the combination of royalties that Frontier claims Atari owes them for work that had been done on the series since 2003. In response, Atari removed the ability to purchase RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 from Steam and GOG.compending the outcome of the lawsuit, as reported by Game Informer. What's very interesting here is that in April, TMZ reported that Frontier examined the ownership data from another website which showed the RollerCoaster Tycoon games had sold more than what Atari had reported to Frontier. The lawsuit states that total royalties should have come up to $3.37 million, but the company was only paid $1.17 million instead, and that there's $2.2 million missing from the stack. The lawsuit spawned from the fact that after Frontier attempted to find out what the real sales data was like from Atari's own books, the company delayed when attempting to have an audit done on the sales reports. One interesting thing of note here is that when Frontier mentioned that it checked a website for ownership data, I do wonder if the company was referring to Steam Spy? The owner of Steam Spy mentioned previously that the reason he brought it back (after Valve changed the privacy data that crippled the service) was because developers and indie studios all wrote to him thanking him for the service and mentioned how invaluable the data was when it came to user engagement, sales trajectory, and comparative analysis. One definitely has to wonder if Steam Spy played any role in Frontier Developments measuring the ownership data with what data Atari had provided them when it came to sales? Regardless of how Frontier Developments acquired the data, the studio decided to sue Atari for back-pay on royalties. This will likely hamper Atari's upcoming efforts to crowdfund the new Atari VCS this month, especially if the company will have to spend time and money battling it out in court with Frontier Developments. The developers, however, have a fall back in the form of Elite Dangerous, which was also crowdfunded and made its way to home consoles and PC. Atari, on the other hand, doesn't quite have any modern day success stories to use as leverage. The latest few games released by Atari actually happened to be RollerCoaster Tycoon World, which did not go over well with fans at all, and before that was the poorly received reboot of Alone in the Dark called Alone in the Dark: Illumination. Things could get hairy for Atari once more if the courts find favor with Frontier Developments and force Atari to pay up the $2.2 million. At that point, one would certainly have to question what might become of the Atari VCS? (Sorry crap knows what happened to the formatting!)
  15. "What's in the box?!" Gwyneth Paltrow's head I think :-)
  16. Hmmm..... I do wonder who they are aiming for, those poor Mums who till now can't work out netflix? (That statement was really a bit sexist/Mumist wasn't it?) My advice to the execs is stop talking like that.... I don't know if I count as a hardcore Atarifan or not.... I don't like pigeon holes or labels. What would I have liked? A convenient way to play almost any Atari game from 2600, 5200, 7800, 8bit, Lynx, Arcade/Mame and hey even Jaguar! My quest so far has mostly not been emulating on a pc. However I do have the vault on steam (came with that lovely Atari art covers book) so there's probably nothing new in the VCSII for me already. I'm sure I'll get Jeff Minter's new Tempest on PS4 before Spring 2019. I've got most 2600 games in the Flashback portable. I must be one of the few in the UK to be lucky enough to have a 5200 (S video Mod solves the NTSC vs PAL issue) with most 5200 games on a multicart thingy. I've got a XEGS again with a multicart ( but I need to get an SD card for it then I'll be able to get a lot of 8 bit games on there. I've got a Lynx II that I'm about to send off to Germany for a new screen and an AV out and I'm on the waiting list for the multi-Card thingy for that. So that just leaves.... how can I play Jag games? I guess waiting till 2019 still won't help me with that so back to orig hardware (which I love anyway). I guess I'll get a Jag before an AtariVCS II..... just wonder how much a PAL Jag CD will set me back? Better start saving up! So Atari SA, please think about how we could play 5200, 8 bit and 7800 games on yer new box at least eh? Then I might be a bit more interested. A nice HDMI out for those games would be a plus compared to most of my old hardware modded to S video.... Just out of interest, amongst the huge knowledge peeps here have, does anyone think the VCS II would have the power to emulate Jag games? Keep on truckin' Tacolitos!
  17. Hi McWill, I too would love to send you my Lynx II from Merry Olde England for you to do the screen mod and the vga out please. Should I pm you? or feel free to pm me... Cheers, Qubism
  18. Hey, I got yer Atari Box right here: It's just like the other one, faux wood grain front and there's nothing in it! This one's about $14 though...
  19. Some more spiel: http://comicbook.com/gaming/2018/03/26/ataribox-atari-vcs-console-details-technical-steam-pc-classic-games/
  20. Hi, can I order a cased Lynx II version please? Thanxx in advance, Saint. I have a nice clean Lynx II coming soon, I always wanted one since I played with a friend's way back when :-)
  21. Really, it should have been the 10400.... (too many numbers?) Or another big cat, Leopard (Can Atari change it's spots?) Or Puma, Cougar (wow your Mom looks hot.... too confusing), Panther, Mountain Lion....
  22. The most Inception style weirdness is probably: "However, if you look at the list of the most-funded projects on StartEngine, the one that’s earned the most money is ... StartEngine, which so far has raised more than $3.4 million. Marks admits that’s a little bizarre. “It is called ‘eating your own dog food’ or ‘drinking your own Kool-Aid,’” Also, surely, eating your own Tacos...
  23. An interview with Chenais about RTC and start engine, the equity crowdfunding platform... and zero mention of the crowdfunding Ataribox, except the one guy in the comments, LOL.... https://www.polygon.com/2018/2/1/16960188/roller-coaster-tycoon-nintendo-switch-atari-start-engine-crowdfunding It's titled: What is Atari doing funding RollerCoaster Tycoon on an equity crowdfunding platform?
  24. Oct 26 2017 From Dreamcade's Kickstarter pages: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly - Mega Update 20 Comments Like 31 likes As many of you will recall, our Kickstarter Campaign was delayed several days when the company we’d been working with for many months on game licensing unexpectedly pulled out. They are releasing a product similar to ours, and we have been unable to secure a licensing deal despite our absolute willingness to be flexible in working with them. We will still include 100 licensed games with the Replay, and are working with several other companies to license retro titles. - "the company we'd been working with" I think we can guess which company that was... their first reaction to Jeff Minter was to poop on him from a great height regarding his latest version of Tempest. (Whereas I think he is as close to a God as it is possible to get gaming wise....) If only they'd said to Dream "hey let's work together on this" or to Jeff...... oh yeah eventually they realised that they could actually make some money if they worked with people and did a U turn with Jeff so maybe they will learn a lesson on attitude, respect and approach, or maybe not! So where is that tempest 4k? I would pay money for that...
  25. Wow I forgot about that Dreamcade Replay thing and it really does sound like the thing I need so thanks for everyone bringing this up (espesh the 5200dapter!). I've signed up to the email address and I'll see what the final version turns out to be. Even though there is a delay, they are a super experienced company (with employed engineers who actually already make retrogame arcade cabinets) who are not going anywhere so I would bet money on them finishing this. The complexity of creating a new product from scratch gives me a headache just thinking about it so I have the patience to wait for this. Atari should just have done a deal with these guys and let them call it an Atari product! (The Atari 10400!) The Dreamcade seems to be planned to do more than what we think the Ataribox would have done and be a shitload cheaper too! 2018 should be interesting...
