  1. Still having this problem with my Atari thinking joystick 2 is firing all the time. Anyone have any other suggestions I can try? Really don't want to scrap the board, seems a real shame.
  2. I've just tried combat, and it's actually the player 2 controller that's permanently firing. (without any actual controllers plugged in). I do have some paddle controllers (and breakout) but they're not that great. They're on my list of things to service when I've sorted this issue out. What should I be looking out for with those?
  3. Thanks. Just checked the soldering of the chip, and theres nothing bridged there. The actual DB9 socket seems ok and hasn't got anything bridged. I wonder if it's a component that connect to the chip, along the line somewhere? I'll have to have a look at the schematics and see if I can work out what other component may have failed.
  4. Hi Chaps.. this is my first post to this forum, so please forgive me if it's the wrong place! I have an original wood front 6 button Atari 2600, and it was in the loft for years! Just got it out recently, and it was fine for a week or so, then it started with the classic problem where it thinks that player 1 is pressing fire all the time. Not deterred, (and quite a dab hand at soldering) I removed the 4050 buffer chip, fitted a socket, and purchased a new 4050 chip, which is numbered CD4050BCN Still the same problem when testing! So, I tried bridging pins 6-7 and 9-10 as has also been discussed, but I still have the same fault. Everything else seems to work ok. Are there any other things I can try to fix this problem? Cheers, Glyn.
