^_^ Always nice to hear appreciation! http://www.ebay.com/itm/US-seller-Genesis-2-32X-CDX-RGB-SCART-cable-composite-video-sync-version-/161588265542?hash=item259f694246 There it is. Not as good as a classic CRT tv, but at least there's no hum. x

Alright, I guess I've been exposed so I'll be honest here. I'm a Mega Drive.
-
That's great so far. I know about the propad 6, just kind of thinking the feel of a new controller may be nice. Currently the buttons on my official controllers are a bit loose and I managed to improve it slightly by cleaning, though it really needs a replacement kit. I can get the GN6 from europe, which is kind of a big deal since I won't have to expect to pay 20-40 euros at my doorstep for ordering out of the US.
-
Heya, just a quick question. The retrolink controller gets a bad rep so I imagine that controller isn't worth mentioning. So I kept browsing and found the hyperkin GN6. What's it like? I read generally positive things with minor gripes. If someone has one and tried them out, do they work out better than the standard worn-out controller? I'm also looking into replacing the rubber pads on my official controllers in the hopes that it will feel tight & responsive, though I honestly can't say I remember how these controllers felt when I first played the genesis; I was about 12-13 years old after all. Thanks, x

D'aww! Thanks! Omg.. I had no idea. If I had room at all, I would have gotten an older tv but this is just fine for me. Yeah! Like Awesome Possum, and Cosmic Carnage.. Slam City with Scottie Pippen (naturally), and all those wonderful FMV games that blew us away and are absolutely timeless and attractive and endlessly engaging!!!

Joyous helloes! Behold my modernized, custom-made games that I am absolutely thrilled to show off ^_^ All games & labels were home made, with the front and back covers of existing games. In rare cases I used a custom cover somebody else made, and I also occasionally used fan art for the front covers of less attractive games. Before anyone lynches me for taking an original destroyed cartridge, cleaning it and replacing its half-torn label with custom ones: it's got the sega seal of quality, so you know it's good! I use an affordable upscaler with RGB scart and such to make it more bearable to play on a modern HDTV. Overall I am incredibly happy with how it looks, and I especially love how it sounds. The secret ingredient! This took me many hours, and after spending so much time designing these covers, printing them, and scraping off the old worn labels from chewed up cartridges, I can reveal to you that the secret ingredient is love. Amazing thanks to my mom for scraping the labels with me, to my brother being supportive and naturally curious, and to my long-distance BESTEST friend for motivating me and sending me these from the US along with a buncha chocolates! So much love.

Lubricating Sega Genesis Arcade Power Stick

*snickers at the suggestive .. everything..* Maybe when stuff is -that- broken, the easiest fix is to get a new one. They're on ebay for 21-25$ just about (excluding auctions), which isn't .. aaaawfully expensive .. and it removes the fear that the stick (.. *snicker*) will break off at the b-ball.. point.. Heh. Make sure you lube it before you use it then. Oh god. -
Any anthologies include House of the Dead one?
WeWantWaffles replied to Rick Dangerous's topic in Sega Genesis
That's all ya get I'm afraid! I got a Wii U in part because of the house of the dead 2 & 3 remake on it >.> and boy does it ruin a person's hand to spam that trigger xD Anyways I once read that Sega lost some of their old data, and a quick search on the internet kind of confirmed that. Maybe that's why they never re-released it? Then again, it could just be a conscious choice .. I mean Sega makes some bad decisions these days xD On a side note, I absolutely hate compilations of old games. They deliberately leave out games which are conveniently located for much more money on the nintendo e-shop or xbox live or the ps3 / ps4 store. You'll get situations like this, where you get game 2 & 3 but not 1 or 4. It must be moneygrubbing. -
Good places to buy Mega Drive items in the UK?
WeWantWaffles replied to Yoshiatom's topic in Sega Genesis
I'm not 100% sure how reliable it is, but from what I've found online (without much detail I fear).. - you can put 32X on any region genesis - the 32X isn't region locked, but uses the genesis/megadrive region it's mounted to If you have a region switch, the boot-up screen goes from japanese to american. Wasn't tested for pal though. EDIT: Some other site says that US games occasionally get japanese voices if the genesis is region switched to JP.. and one person had to mod their 32X to play PAL games. So the answer is no I guess! Not overly reliable. I'm glad I'm just importing american stuff and leaving it at that. -
Good places to buy Mega Drive items in the UK?

After quite a while of browsing, this is the cheapest master system converter I have found: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SEGA-MASTER-SYSTEM-CONVERTER-FACE-HUGGER-VERSION-FOR-MEGA-DRIVE-/201394259811 I don't think it's going to last for much longer! ..and I doubt it's getting any cheaper I'm sorry about the 32X, but that piece of hardware went from expensive to 10$ about a year after its release .. Too bad they gotta jack up the price so much as usual - greedy jerks. The cheapest I have found was American NTSC for 38$ on amazon .. -
Hehe, it's nice to hear that people find it worthwhile. I showed my brother's friend my little designs and he was really fascinated by it too! The price chart place can be really precious for some games, I'll use it for the few other games I got .. Also is it weird that I'm not the biggest fan of MUSHA? I feel like the mechanics aren't for me, but the music absolutely blew me away!
-
I got Phantasy Star IV on Ebay by winning an auction last month! Glad to say it only cost me 26$ with shipping! It shows that if you're patient.. like, really patient.. and wait for auctions, you might score a game for 40% of the price ^_^

That video made me cringe so much.. Pretty much my point in the end; the games don't matter, it's just people digging through crap and trying to make money off our childhood games. I hope the SNES bubble pops! It's only been about five years since the prices have skyrocketed after all. Now, Everdrive stuff is pretty cool for SNES, but I really do like having a copy; it feels like the game has more value because it's there physically, I bought it, cleaned it, made its little spot in my closet! To suddenly have all sorts of games right away diminishes its appeal to me somehow, though a 5$ Truxton reproduction won't feel like much of a lesser purchase compared to the original, especially if I can get a label and box to make it fit in.
-
I agree to pretty much all of what you said xD It is incredibly tempting to buy a game for extra money sometimes. Look at Mega Turrican; I only ever see it go up in price. If I get it for 50$ now (unlikely..) I might avoid buying it for twice as much in about five years from now. Trouble Shooter is also a game I'd like and it hasn't gone down in price in the past 2 months, but it does float around 40$ as well. Ultimately, 40$ is alright for the odd game, though I can't see myself spending more than 60. The sad truth is that even if there was a listing for Truxton at 10$, someone would buy it just to sell it for a 30$ profit anyway. Maybe my own views are a bit unpopular, though! I replace my labels and make custom boxes/cartridges. None of the games I have will have their original look purely because I give them all a custom box, cover and label. Though for me it's not just about having games. I want to play them, and I want my future children or nieces and nephews to play them too. My custom look is mostly there to make everything look clean and inviting, and it's my attempted tribute to the old console. Technically a reproduction game would fit in perfectly because I can easily label them and make them fit in, though I haven't gotten any of those yet and I do try to get original copies unless they're just too pricy. I just got done with my last labels not so long ago: Oh, lastly.. My logic for buying genesis games is this: I can spend 400$ on a ps4, and pay about 50-80$ per game.. or I can spend 400$ on a completely fixed, custom painted, two-controller genesis with 23 games and the ability to output pictures beautifully on an HDTV. I think I'll pass on most games of this gen and wait until the games cost a meager 10$ instead xD
-
Perrrrfect, thanks. Converters are remarkably cheap. I think I'm done and all I need is for my actual genesis to come home in a few weeks ^_^
-
Hey-hey. I just want to ask about the power stuff one more time, just to be clear. I found no cheap official mega drive cables, but I think I got it right. Genesis 2 requires: 120v input 60Hz 10v 850mA center positive So I should get an AC/DC adapter that lets me do 10v and has at least 850mA. AC/DC means it inputs AC from the wall socket and outputs DC into the console. When it comes to polarity, the plugs on a universal adapter will determine whether it is positive or negative. I don't know if 60Hz or 50Hz means anything when it comes to these things, though! I assume that the DC conversion of the adapter negates the Hz requirement. If I'm wrong at all, do let me know! I'm getting: 1000 mA Input: 100 - 240 V (AC) Output: 3-12 V (DC) Changable plugs Goodgood? Edit: Also what do I do if I can't set something to 10v, but it does 9v and 12v? O.O I have a hard time finding the 10v online.

I'd be capturing off an HDTV and the world of capturing video is still an unknown to me xD -

I definitely would appreciate one of those! I might get one sometime for if I want to record from the pc .. (idk how to record off a tv exactly, even though that'd look amazing with my upscaler box) Also I wish I had more time to finish Mega Turrican xD Got to the Alien part of the game, lost all my lives on the train section because I didn't know how to cross a certain gap until I had only 1 guy left. Bah! -

Ironically the best controller I have ever had for older emulation stuff at the pc is an SNES controller. Only about 20$ Here's a link to one .. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Buffalo-Nintendo-USB-PC-Gamepad-Joypad-Controller-Design-in-Japan-/321614330267?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ae1b5399b It's a bit of getting used to the controls if mapping to the genesis, but hey it has all the same buttons technically, just in different places. OH! And I should add, only this specific one is good. The one that has "buffalo" on it. Every other one is awful with a D-pad that, as usual, has an unseen self-destruct function. -

I looked into Saturn (fleeting but a general glance.. I realize it requires a very in-depth look to find all the timeless games..) and just didn't find much that pulled me in. It's mostly the early 3D polygon things that aren't for me, unfortunately. The real reason I'm focused on Genesis and nothing else is because of the somewhat balanced price, fairly timeless graphics, and generally good music when the sound chip isn't butchered by developers! It's hard to find well-made 2D graphics unappealing. Alisia Dragoon, Castlevania, Streets of Rage, Rocket Knight Adventures (!!! amazing game), Valis III, and more.. are all so nice to look at, and they seem more complete in their art style. Also Mega Turrican. As in, I'm playing Mega Turrican right now in the hopes that I will buy the real thing someday. Time to unpause and get back into it. -
Oh em gee. I feel the pull as well sometimes! I have 23 games currently, and they are all games that I love and will probably finish to the end. I felt like I had to have game xyz as well even though they don't interest me at all, but I luckily managed to scratch them off the list as time went on xD There are also games that I would love to have but that are just way too expensive. Mega Turrican, Twinkle Tale .. I try to avoid those .. but honestly I don't care if they're reproduction at this point, and while I'm kind of opposed to paying people for reproductions, if the price is right then I might snag one and put an american/european cartridge case on it. I can hear some of you cringe now xD Also instead of paying a lot of money for boxes I spend enormous amounts of time into designing my own. I guess that's the trade off here.

I play Afterburner 2 a lot as I wait for it to finally reach my house. I can't wait to play it on the actual console because emulation on my tv doesn't maximize properly. That said, the whole 32X thing .. ugh, I don't know .. It has so very few worthwhile games to me. I love the idea of playing Afterburner II on that, but that is sadly it. CD is slightly more attractive (though I won't get into that for price reasons) -
I love the bright colors, myself. Also the checkered pattern would be hard to work with for me anyways seeing as I taught myself Photoshop on the very day that I made this cover. Overall I love the flashy red because of how it stands out, and sometimes thecoverproject.net has similar designs that let me skip 20-30 mins of resizing as well. Last night I said hi to a friend.. He owns an SNES.. I remember him having Megaman X2 and Secret of Mana for it, so I told him he's got a big pile of money sitting in his house and he doesn't even know xD The fun part was that he was kind of amazed like, "whoa if I sold these I'd have so much money" .. and then a minute later he just went: "I'm never selling this." It's nice to hear that people can value these games for what they are and were, and not for the money they're worth. Ultimately my own little designs are a tribute and will hopefully keep these games timeless. At least back then they made games that mercilessly kicked my butt. Also I see you got Steel Empire! That's pretty cool.

We're such scavengers if you think about it xD Like my dad: "Don't throw that away-! I can fix that! I need it!" Seeing as this subject is about labels and boxes and such as well, I've included my latest work. I basically taught myself photoshop last night (well, GIMP cuz it's free..), and after four hours I made a custom box cover. The idea is to make all my games have this layout, except Japanese exclusive games would be blue with Mega Drive on them, but there aren't many of those ^_^ .. What do you think? EDIT: I slightly improved it since then, but it's roughly the same.
