unfortunately the "silver" keys are the most dead
Not stating the obvious (you are probably already aware of it), but in the sticky thread there is an extensive and thorough description of how to fix the 1200's keyboard. I would also suggest that you measure the traces of the mylar foil with a multimeter. They might have oxidated to the point that they are no longer conductive. Because of the matrix-like shape of decoding the keyboard, this would lead to whole groups of non-functioning keys.

Bugger - I just read all of this and realised my 1200XL is now the same...

heh about 15 minutes up the road from you , in clonee.Small world eh?
Deadly - we've enough then to form a NAUG (Northsiders Atari Users Group)!!

Ha!Thought I was the alone here.

Not any more! Where you based? I'm in Glasnevin.

Wow - someone else in Dublin that's using an Atari 8-bit!

... Microport parallel Buss board (experimentors PIA board) for XL's which also look very interestingWow - I remember buying one of these. Basically it was a 6521B PIA and memory address decoding logic with a few pull-up resistors. All this was supplied on a professionally manufactured PCB with break out pins. Only ever managed to get PORTA going on the PIA though and then lost interest. Was expensive at the time, but it did give a nice PCB and something to finally plug into the PBI.

Nout sure if this fits the context of the deliberate crash, but didn't Universal Hero have a bug / feature in it when it came to typing in the password? It was sometime like Error 164 or similar and the game simply bombed out.

31, Dublin, Ireland. Got my first Atari in 1983 a 600XL and was jealous of those with the full 64KB!

What's the password for the login via telnet?

Me too. My new 1200XL arrived yesterday and I'd like to know how to get the best from it.

Zipstick. Nice solid feel, with defined movement. Good to hold in the hand or place on a desk. Also comes with an autofire. Have tried many other, including the CX-40 (too soft for my liking) not seems to beat the Zipstick.

Even with the guide I can't do this, I keep running out of energy.
Yeah this was wrecking my head also. But I must admit to cheating. I would so a state save every so often so if a character died on me or I ran out of energy I didn't have to go back to the beginning.
Btw, I think I got this game in 1985 or 1986 in Manchester city centre, I then went with my mum and nephew to some pizza place and they were handing out some Disney Fantasia flyers. Ah, memories, don't you just love em?

This is such a huge thing for me for the memories. It was my first Atari 800XL (I'd a 600XL before that but games just didn't work with 16KB) and a new XC12. I do remember playing the game into the small hours of the 1 Jan 88. Some good times alright. Finishing games on the PS2 doesn't hold the same for me now.

..I've noticed there's no data recorder, do you not bother with cassette games?
I gave APE that I purchased from Steve at Atarimax sometime ago (thanks Steve!) that provides me with all the software, ATRs and CAS images I need. Don't know how reliable the current XC12 would be!

Now that is a nice and tidy setup. Wish mine looked that good, I seem to have wires everywhere at the moment.
Well it's only the desk you didn't see what was behind the camera!
I have other stuff - here the listAmiga 1200, Atari 520STE, Supra 30MB HD, Atari XEGS, XF551, 1050, XC12, etc... on shelves. Actually I should get a photos of all that too! Will get digital camera when I go home.

Nope
Bummer - might explain why I cannot find it anywhere so.

Hi Folks,
I've been going through my collection and I notice I seem to have some originals that may be useful to people and atarimania.com. For example, I notice that Mini Office II is missing from the listings also I have the original images of Turbo Basic and The Lone Raider (on cassette). However when I check the listings for the Lone Raider for example it says "Missing Original Image". Which image is this? Photograph or a dump of the cassette?
Apologies for the silly questions, new to this and would just like to contribute.
Cheers,
Jason.

On the 31st December 1987 I started to play Mastertronic's Spellbound. I never really could get around to figuring out what to do then. After a serious break from the Atari I finally managed to complete it today!!
However, it say the Magic Knight will re-appear in Knight Thyme. Anyone know if this was released for the A8?
Ta!

Whooo hooo... I finally got my act together and I am able to upload a photo of my Atari in it's home.
Use APE to load games, etc. Plenty of stuff not show as don't have room for them on my desk.
The XEGS, 130XE, 1050, XF551, XC12, SpartaDOSX (coolest DOS ever) and loads of cartridges....
Not the best shot as it's dark here now. I love this Atari stuff....

Finally - I got around to actually getting some photos of the Zipstick. They were popular over here in the height of gaming. I remember the text on the box. "Steel shaft, microswitches in every direction and built-in autofire".

Here's the photos
Top down view:
The Rubber Feet for sticking to the desk:
Finally, the Autofire switch:
Best joystick ever...

It would be good, but the problem today is too many game players expect cutting edge graphics (by today's standards) and massively complex plots. The games would sell to the likes of us. But probably no-one else.

It definitely has gone downhill. I haven't renewed my subscription this time as I wasn't really getting any useful information from it. The seem to only ever cover the C64, Spectrum and Amstrad. Everything else gets a token mention.
