  1. I wonder what happens after beating the third time through all 16 levels... My MAME only has Crazy Balloon sets 1 and 2, so I don't have any invincibility codes, and I've never gotten through the second time of all 16. I think I got caught on 22 or so. And when I said the fourth pattern's end was thinner, I meant the fifth. I forgot completely about the second level. That new pattern looks much better than what I cooked up, good job! Wow, I really SHOULD have read that PDF. It basically said everything I remembered. Again, I can't wait to see this game in action! ----- Chase Hermsen
  2. Yeah, the scoring makes sure that it only gives you points for each little bit you go through once. Also, I believe the powerup areas were one-directional, i.e. the middle slot, which has different colour spikes, would only give you more points if you went UP through it... If you went down through it, it would score regular size points, and that would take away from your score, as you have already passed through that area with this life, and you lose the bonus points as a result. Also, this information was cleared after every life was lost, thus, you could acquire points all over again from spots if you lose a life, a kind act of the programmer. Glad I can help! ------- Chase Hermsen
  3. Darn! I had just finished making one for you! I'll post it anyway, though. I was thinking you could, if possible, replace one or both of the o's in Balloon with an actual balloon. If you could somehow have two balloons in the same spot (no collision detection would happen if they are the same sprite, maybe? Different subroutine, no? I dunno), but at opposite movement directions, so one is always going the opposite way, thus spelling out the two o's in a interesting fashion. ------- Chase Hermsen P.S. I tried doing the actual "level layout look" to it, but it took too long, and in that time, you posted yours.
  4. There we go! I tried the second and third revisions. All I can say is: wonderful. It's difficulty is almost exactly the same as the original. Keep up the good work. I used to know exactly how the scoring worked, back in the day when I played this every day. Even knew the highest possible scores for each of the first few levels. Too bad I didn't write them down. And yeah, all the level layouts are basically the same, except for the...8th? Maybe? I'll double check. Anyway, the second iteration of the 3rd type of level has a few more spikes to make it a little more difficult to navigate, as does...the ending slot of the fourth level, making it thinner, I believe. My memory is hazy. Keep it up, and I can't wait to see how you implement that evil face of doom. That thing gave me nightmares. ------ Chase Hermsen
  5. Yay! Crazy Balloon was at one point my favourite game to play on MAME. Keep up the good work! Your version seems a little harder, though. I can't flythrough the middle or left with ease like I can in the Arcade version... Keep it up, though! ------------ Chase Hermsen
  6. Sorry, but I have to do this. I saw the topic and just HAD to do this useless interjection. An excerpt from a horrible joke book someone got me as a gag gift this week: What did the jealous computer bug say to his girlfriend? "Don't sit under the Apple IIe with anyone else but me." Please don't hate me. ------ Chase Hermsen
  7. I just bought Mario DS off of Don a few days ago, and when he says it looks mint, it looks mint. My copy was nicely, carefully packed, considering DS has hard cases and isn't easily destructable. Thanks Don! Don't hesitate in buying from him. --------- Chase Hermsen
  8. Actually, I think Cartoon Heroes is the hardest 9 footer. Never tried/passed either, though. I've known a few people who have passed out playing DDR. One just played too much in a row, the other was determined to pass Exotic Ethnic. I think I read an article sometime of someone who had to be rushed to the hospital because of some blood disorder while playing or something. I don't know which is worse, the fact that Beserk killed two people, or the fact that some people flocked to the arcades to play the game that killed someone. -------- Chase Hermsen
  9. Off topic: Does that generic layout's n64 controller hurt anyone else's eyes when you realize it's backwardly configured? On topic: I too would sell mine if someone bid on this, considering I got my (larger) set for $10. ------ Chase Hermsen

    OOOPS!!!

That was a very nice thing you did for that person. Many people would BIN it and then neg them for not sending them the items. Good work. Though the eBay database has been cleared since, once CPUWIZ BIN'd an item in 10 seconds. --------- Chase Hermsen
  11. The game I've rolled the most times is Carnival. 10 rolls in one game, as the counter is 5 digits, but I got 1M+ points... Fun game, just hard to count score after a while. I make a tally sheet and mark it between turns. -------- Chase Hermsen
  12. Or is it time to sell my second Atari off? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...8140301921&rd=1 -------------- Chase Hermsen
  13. CPUWIZ: Is Size 30 better for you? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...3936802067&rd=1 I wonder if they are still in stores...They look quite interesting. Too bad I have a 28x32 pant size... -------- Chase Hermsen
  14. I've seen (and had to clean up) a few boards where someone registered with five or six accounts, and posted 400 threads in every forum, and replied to every post (probably using a bot for some). Those are NOT fun. Thus, its a necessary step. Just think of it as airport security, but you don't have to take off your shoes!
  15. And that's precisely one of the reasons that "IPS patches" are made for some more "neoclassic" systems (NES, SNES, GameBoys of All Kinds, Genesis, etc.). Those patches do not contain any code from the original game in them, but merely your changes to said code. This way, you are not distributing their code, and your code is all your own, without the original creator taking it. Best of both worlds, ne? Maybe, if the situation reaches that point, Atari hacks may have to use something similar. Also, upon reflection, I find the way this thread progressed from a series of observations to a serious debate on hack ethics to be slightly comical. ------- Chase Hermsen
  16. I knew this would come around at some point. In fact, I thought of it a few times myself. Anyway, I knew someone would make one of these once there was either a 2OAC (2600 on a chip) or if they could shrink down the hardware enough to fit into a modded joystick. I can't wait to see how this one turns out! ---------- Chase Hermsen
  17. Sorry for the double post (Where's that edit.... ), but one of my local arcades also has one of those old school love testers, so I guess that's the oldest. And, I wish I lived near funspot...I love that place. ------ Chase Hermsen
  18. I'm now glad I live near a boardwalk. http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~locations/Plac...3?code=njseacar That place is great. Note that there a lot more games than those on that list, such as Track & Field which I got a cut on my elbow from for smacking the side of the cabinet while trying to long jump two days ago. ------ Chase Hermsen
  19. I thought the same thing. ------- Chase Hermsen
  20. It would be nice, but I'm 44 hours and 33 minutes away, according to MapQuest. -------- Chase Hermsen
  21. Wow, I have a Visor that has been sitting on a shelf that I never use. Maybe I should start entering things in there... ------ Chase Hermsen
  22. I really like the logo. I can picture shirts with that on it... Atari Jerseys?? *ponders* -------- Chase Hermsen
  23. Amazingly that is the first thing I thought, too. Except that 1024 is 2 to the 10th power, no? My thought: "Wow. That's 2^10 * 10^-2." Wow again. That's actually cooler looking typed than I thought. Now if only I posted this at 10:02... I'm such a math loser. ------- Chase Hermsen
  24. I saw them too, and was thinking about getting them, until I saw the shipping. -------- Chase Hermsen
