Atari Video Club Fourms now open
Ferris replied to Dan Iacovelli's topic in Gaming Publications and Websites
Good luck with that. Looks like you have some real Atari spirit goin on over there. -
I have a nice set of five or six brand new (nos) 2nd generation Panisonic 3DO units. They are still in the bubble wrap and come with all the connections, but no controller. I'm looking to trade some of these out for other items. Preferably 7800, 5200, Lynx, Neo Geo, or original Panisonic 3DO unit. Let me know...

Which NES games have the Famicom adapter??
Ferris replied to Jasoco's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Wouldnt the Famicom boards be coded with Japanese in the game? How can they just slap an adapter on there and pack it in a cartridge.... interesting that they did that. By the way I'm having a problem. A lot of my earlier NES titles arent booting up when I turn on the system. Games like Excitebike, Metroid, Hogan's Alley, and Mario either give me a blue screen, a FLASHING blue screen, or scrambled code on the screen. Sometimes if I sit there for a while, having cleaned all the contacts, and turn the system on and off for like 20 mins the game will finally boot up. Is this common for these old titles to die out like that? They have been well maintained in a dry, airconditioned area for most of their lives. Is there some trick to reviving these cartridges? I have Atari cartridges that are twice as old that dont give me problems like this. I know that the system works just fine because all of my other titles work on it perfectly. Thanks! -
I recently had Nolan autograph one of my mint 7800 units with a magic marker. There's nothing really special about the 7800, it's just stock... but Nolan signed it personally so I think that makes it a little more collectable. =)

I never saw the MasterSystem version of Choplifter! .... is it really that different from the 7800?
-
Yeah me too. I'd settle for a used one player kiosk. Gimmie some leads man. I have the money. I have the room. I just need the right connection.

The ColecoVision does have graphics which are closer to "NES" style in some occasions... but as has been mentioned before, the quality of games from ColecoVision dropped off totally after the initial launch. The 5200's just kept getting better and better. What the 5200 was lacking was all of the nice accessories that the ColecoVision had.

I have a few spare 5200 units that aren't even worth pulling out of the box. The boards dont work and the shells look like crap. I have a nice supply of 5200 parts left over from when I used to refurbish 5200 decks so I thought I might try a few little experiments. The first thing I would like to do is inspired by Lee Kreuger's interpretation of the ColecoVision Jr. I'm going to shave off the controller bay and see if I cant cut this thing down to size. I just want to see if I can do it, so it will at least fit on my desk. Second thing I want to try is to take another 5200 deck and incorporate the 2600 VCS system changer so it fits nicely in the controller bay. Want to play 2600? Just flip up the door in the back and there's a 2600 cartridge slot. Okay I gotta go warm up the Dremel. Wish me luck.

Looks to me like this will be a *very* popular title among the Rec-Rooms in prisons. ...and by Rec-Rooms in prisons I mean GAY.

The primary reason I really have been enjoying the 5200 lately is because of you guys here at AtariAge... it's all about the Homebrews. The 2600 has had some great homebrew games developed for it over the past several years and that has been part of what has been keeping the 2600 so popular among retrogamers... but the 2600 was always king, and that momentum from twentyfive years ago still carries its weight today. The 5200 on the other hand is a different story. The 5200 didnt have nearly as many games released for it as the 2600 had. The early games that were released were just rehashed 2600 titles or direct ports (often identical) from the 400/800 line. But the 5200 is a much more capable machine than the 2600, not only in the graphics it can produce but in what sort of game you can play, because of those graphics. It has only been in the past few years that new titles have begun to surface for the 5200. A few of those titles are original developments that went unreleased for the past twenty years, however most of them have been homebrews. I have to say that the latest homebrews from 5200 enthusiasts have been for the most part spectacular. Mean Hamster Software has given us Combat 2, Klax, and Haunted House II 3-D, which is now one of my favorite titles on the 5200. Ronen Habot gave us Castle Blast which is also an awesome game that he obviously spent countless hours programing. Ofcourse you can't forget Ron Lloyd's Koffi Yellow Kopter. That game is just absolutely superb. It plays and feels even better than an original release title and I cannot tell you how impressed I am with his work. This is like the best homebrew out there. Also, Adventure 2 is supposed to make its debut at Philly Classic 5 this coming spring, and from what I have seen on that title, it looks very very promising. Again, very impressive work being done by a homebrew 5200 enthusiast. Ofcourse, you cannot discount the reproduction cartridges either. Here on AtariAge, you can purchase Asteroids, Final Legacy, Jr. Pac-Man, Millipede, Super Pac-Man, Xevious and Pete's Test Cartridge. These are among several recenty discovered titles which were never released, and definately make up for some of what the 5200 lacks in software. You can thank George Reese for much of this. Most recently Pixels Past has given us the Redemption 5200 controller adapters which are an easy solution to the 5200 joystick situation. This is yet another great development which makes owning a 5200 Super System much easier today than it was twenty years ago. In the end, the 5200 was frankly a lackluster system without much excitement until about three years ago when all of these new developments started surfacing. Don't get me wrong, the 5200 was always a decent system. But it is these recent developments that really makes this system shine, and makes owning a 5200 a delightful experience. The 5200, in my opinion, is the Atari home gaming system that best embodies what AtariAge and the retrogaming community is all about, and showcases what can be done in the homebrew world. This my friend is why you spend money on a 5200. (And this is coming from a 7800 fanatic)

I actually rewired my 5200 to do that a LONG time ago. My father was left handed and bitched about the performance more than anyone. I think it was sometime in 1993 that I got adventurous and did my first controller hack =)
-
I'm looking for one myself.
-
Holy shit. I'd pay an aweful lot for that lol. The M2's demise was one of the biggest dissapointments of the late 1990s for me. I was really into 3DO. Take care of that thing. That's a real piece of history.
-
No way. I'd love to get some pics. Which style unit does he have?
-
I remember my 100'th... I threw a huge weekend-long Atari fest with my friends. Most of them didn't understand.
-
Yes, actually I have quite a bit of information in binders and in some pages which I took off line. I'll see what I can find for you and post it here in the forum. There were a few prototypes for the M2 Accellerator, it looked like a very promising system, but just like the Invellivision III and the ColecoVision Super Game Module, it got lost in history.

I had tried to relaunch it but seeing as how there was so little interest, I didn't bother. Im busy enough as it is between school and my job and Atari 7800.com, not to mention the rest of my life I just couldnt justify doing 3DOreal.com again. This is the same reason I shut down all of the online stores. I just dont have the time to do it the right way, so I'm not going to do it at all. Besides, that quote is over a year old and it is in reference to TurboGrafx-16.com. If anybody else out there has a nice home for the 3DO, I'd help out in any way possible.

I hate those 'HOW MUCH ARE THESE WORTH' threads …
Ferris replied to SS's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
CBS sucks and so do their games. -
I used to have one called 3DOreal.com ...but there just weren't enough 3DO enthusiasts that kept it going so I shut it down. I still have everything archived though.
-
I think I'm going to do that. All I have available is a dremel, so I'm goign to hold off until I can find a buddy who has the proper saws and tools. I have never ripped into a ColecoVision yet and I had no idea that you could cut them down to that size. Anyway, again, great job. BTW, how did you make the front label? Is that aluminum or is that just paper?
-
Canadian Tire? Yeah those Wico's were excellent. They were like the Mercedes-Benz of joysticks. Atari's joysticks for the 5200 fell apart within two hours of opening the box. Curt Vendel will back that up first hand. Those Wicos seem to still be going strong after 25 years.

Any Gundam or Dragonball games would be nice too..

LOOKING FOR INTELLIVISION ROCKS/INTELLIVISION LIVES FOR PC
Ferris replied to ROCKINGROLL's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
Go to www.IntellivisionLives.com they are good guys. -
That's interesting. Whatever BOSS I had definately had two buttons. One on the top of the joystick and one as a trigger. I'd like to see pictures of the joysticks you have. I have never really ventured outside of official Atari joysticks but I'm starting to feel the need to. I always thought that the Tac-20 or the Tac-30 always looked like nice litle joysticks. Have you had any luck with those?
-
So uhh.... since when does the 7800 light gun make you orgasm like that? ...certainly news to me. Just confirms what I had always thought. Jack Tramiel really was a sick bastard.
