plede is a wax.. not to tell you how to do things.. but honestly.. and in a 'freindly' tone.. I wouldnt suggest going that route.. my two cents;) stripping the plastic to the bare clean plastic will restore it to as new of a shine as when it was new;)

the more I read this thread the more my wish list grows;)

I promised to make peace and keep the thread on topic;)

turn off vector luminosity on the vector games, that's noted as to be one of the major hogs on at least those games gavv Good idea, but I already tried that. Even the Arcade Warlords runs at like 10 frames a second at 640x480...I can't imagine what the problem is here. I tried the game on my 2nd PC, which is a P3-450 and the games run faster on that box than on my P4. Well, there's always MAME. hmm.. that is really odd... maybe a driver issue on Nvidias side? who knows.. How does Tempest (arcade style) run? thats the main reason Id like to have that cd;)

since you touched on that,, the HOT water is really the trick.. I have a apartment house and I clean my units in a unrented unit were I have the hot water heater turned up all the way! scalding temps.. really makes a difference when you use the hotest water.. does something to the plastic;) so anyone who has the 'steam' option on ther dishwasher.. that is a great way to go.. I would scrub it first tho.. or.. get it hot... scrub it while its STILL hot.. than steam it again:).. good point sku;)

being we are on the subject of shiny plastic:) for smooth plastic.. use good ol fashion wetsand paper (2000 grit ultra-fine) and buffing compond... here is an example of a first year 5200 (first year had smooth plastic instead of the 'grain type) that I wet sanded and polished.. if you really want it to look like new.. this is how:) http://www.atarigoods.com/atarifeedback/eB...20WARRANTED.htm

Thats kewl:) if you want the highest shine.. clean it first.. really clean it.. let it dry over night.. than use clear coat on it.. I wouldnt on mine.. but if you love the hight shine.. nothing wrong with the clear coat... use a GOOD brand of paint.. I would suggest a auto-touch up paint like Dublicolor.. hope this helps;)

ya.. happens all the time I was a ceritfied Master Mechanic for 8 years.. worked for the local Chrysler dealership.. specialized in Computer Controlled systems (everything from engine controllers to climate control systems) as well as being well versed in tran rebuilding. All the time I would get people asking me for advise,, I would give them the exact advise they needed to fix ther car.. than some brother of a friend of ther girlfriends daughters brother would give those people some advise and just becuase it was what they wanted to hear (such as a cheaper fix) they would want to believe that person.. I always would ask.. 'What does suchnsuch do for a living' , and it would always come back as 'Oh he's a janitor,, or a truck driver, etc.."... Even with my Master Certification.. people want to believe what they want! some of em anyway.. so.. take my advise if you want... if not,, no biggie.. go ahead and think you know better;) more money in pocket in most cases:)

BTW.. today is the first day Ive been feeling 'decent' in last week and a half.. so anyone waiting on a recond' unit.. they will now be on there way:) sorry for the delay,, been reeeeealy sick latly.. think I may have ingested some Armor All j/k
-
lol.. we are friends outside of atariage:) And Ive never steered him wrong
-
When I stop reconing these, I will give up my 'personal ingrediant' (the plastic acid I use) for cleaning these.. but until then I will have to keep that and the chemical I use for de-fluxing and cleaning the switches and load slot a trade secret:) but for the do it yourselfer.. just clean and scrub the plastic with soad and water and some 409.. use a scrub brush with 'medium' strenth brizzels and scrub a shine out of your system.. this is best way to give it a like new look.. armor all will put a shine on it that even when the machine was new.. didnt shine like that..

You two should move to Hawaii and get married. LOL.. well this is touchy for me... I take alot of work into making these ataris look new with about a half hour of scrubbing, soaking these things, etc. I see on ebay all the time people ripping off my rebuild ad,, and part of ther rebuild is AA wich right ther shows me these people are amatures and dont know what the hell ther doing!
