  1. my bad kris.. one thing about me I aways admit it if im worng :) I saw some rips earlier from rob,,

Most people will be satisfied with a 2600 console purchased for $2-$5 from a thrift store .. and they can clean it up inside and out by themselves with a Q-tip cotton swab and some isopropyl alcohol .. This is not rocket science here. And contact cleaner from Radio Shack will make dirty switches perform well if necessary.

The CD4050 circuit for AV output is a great first circuit for those who have never held a soldering pencil in their hands before. A great learning experience. This circuit is much better than any potentiometer hack.

Then I confused some of your post with robs earlier post.. thinking they were all from the same author I thought you were just flooding the thread.. my bad.. sorry bro;)_ And to make clear.. looking at the design its a safe bet to say your mod will deff produce a better pic.. kootoo's, I plan on building somthing similiar for the 6ers.. but for the cheap 4's, this is a great alternative.. so once again,, I admit I spoke too soon.. my apologies;) Rob.. its all good too;) I actually really laid back dude.. I must of posted that when I ran out of pot;)

  2. Actually I bought a lot of almost 500 eproms.. about 370 of em worked,, the ones in the pics are the only ones marked prototype, however, all the other ones were all correctly marked, activision for activision games, parker bro for parker, atari for atari,, etc.. I sold them all to bjk7382 and kept what you see in the pic. I have 2 of the centipedes, 4 of the trick shots, thre 'oinks', the rest are all just singles (im not really up for selling the singles) Well if they are rare,, id rather trade than sell,, ;)

  3. man oh man.. trust me on this one.. just get some REAL contact cleaner,, rub with q tip until you stop seeing black coming off on the q tip. Brake Clean is actually a for of REAL AGGRESSIVE contact cleaner and can be found cheaply in most auto stores, however,, its very, very hard on plastic so dont spray it,, dip qtip in it and be carful! different brands have different corrosiveness (same with different makers of contact cleaner). If you want an even more permenant fix do this: At the auto parts store request some 'rear window defroster repair' paint. Its a conductive liquid used to repair a rear window defrost 'grid' when it has been damaged. small bottle, kind of exspensive but goes along way. This is pretty much the same product used to repair similiar carbon bottons on other devices (vcr's mostly) hope this helps;) Ive sold about 40 of these repairing em that way and never had one come back on a 90-day warranty,,

  4. sure.. cheaper as they go.. but not really a bad thing. The only main drawback of the four switcher is the crappy Difficulty selector switches,, these tend to 'jitter' easily when they get old. Also the RF shielding is obviously cheaper and less efficient in the 4. However, considering the simpilicity of the design of the 4 to the 6, its not only cheaper but a smarter layout. Its obvious proof of the technology developing as the unit got older. A cheap composit mod on these takes care of the RF problem, and who actually uses the difficulty switches;) When you mass produce somthing, the cleaner the design, the cheeaper it is to produce,, wich in turn means more ataris for you and me :D

  5. point out in the selling ad how this game came to be,, pretty rare actually. As you may or may not know, white activision labels ususally mean they are PAL.. well some genious at activision ordered up a large batch of white labels for the 'at the time' thought to be soon produced PAL version of space shuttle, then someone realized that EURO fold probably didnt even know what a space shuttle was! (or gave a care anyway) So, instead of throwing out the labels they installed em on the NTSC version,, thats why its so rare.. hope this helps,, I sold my last one for I think 18? I wouldnt take less than 12 for it, 20 is actually a fair price

  6. Ok, sorry for the delay in getting these pics.

What I have here is several chips with 'prototype' clearly on the bottom. I

either have a batch of very rare chips or an assortment of bootlegs. I

figure one of two things.. these are actually real and were 'grabbed' by

someone who probably worked in the chip manufacturing lab? Or this was

someone in a lab who made copies using 'prototype' blanks (or a combination

of both). The one reason I think these could possibly be real is the fact

the games seem to mostly be on their corresponding companies chip! (Atari

games on Atari chips, activision on activision chips,, etc) I know Atari

made guides to decipher the numbers on the chips..anyone have one of these??

if so please let me know what you think. Also, the Dukes of Hazard chip, is

not marked proto on the bottom, but once again can someone verify the

    numbers?? tnks;)

    Here is Donald Ducks Speedboat

    DSCF0310_small.JPGDSCF0312_small.JPG

These two chips are identical, both say 'three little pigs' on top, these

are copies of 'Oink', I think three pigs was the temp name given during

    development??

    DSCF0315_small.JPGDSCF0317_small.JPG

This is a copy of Kangaroo

    DSCF0319_small.JPGDSCF0321_small.JPG

This one is Ghost Manner and could be on a Atari chip? Which could prove

these to definitely be bootlegs.. anyone able to track the numbers on top?

    DSCF0325_small.JPGDSCF0326_small.JPG

Here is Yars Revenge,, notice it says 'control' on the top

    DSCF0330_small.JPGDSCF0331_small.JPG

Here is a couple copies of Trick Shot! I really hope these are real for I've

heard that Imagic prototypes are very hard to come by..

    DSCF0333_small.JPGDSCF0337_small.JPG

This is Star Trek, appears to be an Atari chip?? not sure

    DSCF0338_small.JPGDSCF0339_small.JPG

    Here is Mrs. Pac man

    DSCF0341_small.JPGDSCF0345_small.JPG

This is Buck Rogers,, but once again in this case it looks like an Atari

    chip! Any verification on this?

    DSCF0347_small.JPGDSCF0349_small.JPG

    Here is Jungle Hunt

    DSCF0350_small.JPGDSCF0351_small.JPG

    Here is Centipede

Ok,, that's it,, I will say what I've noticed

is the chips that I have multiple copies of all have the same #'s on the

back for that particular game, also, I noticed that the #'s always seem to

be proper for their release time, in other words, I haven't found a newer

game on a old numbered chip of vis-a-versa. Any input on this would be

    great;) tnks

  7. If you are not commfy with soldering,, I sell RECONDITIONED modified units for only$69! I've heard rumors chris is going to sell his mod for around $50? not sure,, altho he loves to use this forum to advertise his mod, he hasnt been clear on the price when asked. If you are a 'do it your-selfer' but still dont like to run a soldering iron, Ill sell ya a modified 4switch board, all youll have to do is open your atari consol and exchange the board, Ill do that for $49,, prob same price as chris mod! for the extra $20 tho to buy a complet console you will get a very good conditioned 'woodgrain' or 'vadar' front bezel (vadar cost $5 more). I also repaint the ornge trim on the switch bezel,, the unit is guaranteed to look as close to new as one could exspect! If you are a little nervous about my mod I offer a 'no questions' 36 hour return policy! so you have nothing to gamble at all. If you dont like the pic the mod makes than just package it up and ship it back for full refund. Im comfident enough of this mod that I'll even split the shipping with you if you decide to return. Also, my consols carry a 90 day warranty! The switches and load slot are garanteed not to be over sensitive.. you WILL be able to move your consold around while playing games without the screne going out. All the switches will look good and work very smoothly,, guaranteed!!! If interested let me know and Ill take time to get ya one together asap. My nick on ebay is same as in here (povlok1) and my feedback is over 600 so you know im honest. I really didnt intend to try and advertise my units awhole lot in here, this thread was intended more for feedback than anything else, but being chris has over and over and over and over and over used this thread for a advertisment for his mod and to bash mine without even commenting on the screen caps...

If you are looking for somthing alittle 'more', I too am working on a s-vid mod w/stereo, except my mod will be fully customizable from outside the case! I plan on selling these already installed in 6switch recon'd units for about $99. This mod will be exstensive, alowing you to adjust the color/tint/bright/contrast all from outside the case, kind of like a TV set from the early 70's or before. So instead of just going with the color Chris determins looks best, you can custom tailor the device to your preference. hope this helps everyone:) Jeff atarigoods.com

  8. you might want to hold off for my mod wich Im going to post here soon (when I get alittle time and Nathon has a chance to run it threw his test) It will only cost you about $2 in parts and if you can run a soldering iron at least a little bit than you can do this mod in under an hour. Pic prob wont be as good as Chris's mod but it will be close,, and it wont cost ya much:)

  9. The Heavy Six'er and the so called 'light' sixer are the same design on the inside. The ONLY difference is the base. The 'heavy' unit uses a roughly 3/8 inch thick base made out of a somewhat soft plastic. The later units went with the standard thin, hard, brittle units that are similiar to whats on the 4 switch as well. Here is a pic of my workbench,, all the units stacked on the right are out of 6 swithers (both heavy and light) and ther rest of the units in the middle and on the left are 4 switch units,, hope this helps a taddownload.php?id=14943

  10. So the Left Player would be closer to the left speaker and vice versa. So when playing the early 2 player games (Combat, Air-Sea Battle, Video Olympics, Indy 500, Space War, Dodg'em) the gamer hears the sound effects of his player and missile and destruction/crashes in the nearer speaker.

I wonder if 4 inches would really make a 'sound possition' difference? who knows.. maybe thats why they dropped the idea
