    I've fixed many a supossidly dead cart that others have cleaned and still didnt work by using a emeryboard on the contacts, somtimes cleaners just dont take off the old tarnish or oxyidation on the brass connectors. Use a 'nail file' and work it side to side until you see shiny contacts.. try not to go deep, just deep enough to hit the contacts (1/8-1/4 inch) this will bring back many a dead cart.. no outside signs will let you know if a cart is DOA, usually a cart goes DOA when pulled out as the VCS is powered up. Usuallly the cart will survive this but every now and then it will zap the rom.

    if you have a spare unit for parts.. here is what I suggest and solves this prob at least 3/4 of the time.

    Find the funky red (usually red) plastic 'tower' that sticks out of the r/f shielding that has the allen head screw in it.. can't miss it, only thing that sticks out of the r/f shielding besides the load slot (on 4 swithcers, 6switch similiar) try adjusting it, but odds are if the sound is dead adjusting wont help (will help if sound is 'fuzzy'). Than, look just below this 'tower' (r/f shielding removed of course) and you will see two resisters that have a thick 'clear' coating over them, they are easy to spot for they are the only two resisters that look like this. Replace the 'tower' and the resisters, this will most likely solve the prob. I say just change all 3 for its a crap-shoot as to wich of the 3 items is bad.. always seems if I replace the tower, its the resister, or if I change the resisters, its the tower. Ther is also a chance that the problem is in the TV tuner (big silver box on the right hand side of the board when looking at it) altho this is much rarer than the other prob I described,, hope this helps;)

    Wow, that's an awesome find. BTW, the "Sound I" module you speak of is actually the Kid Vid tape player.

    ahhh,, mystery solved:) that makes sense considering Coleco made both the Gem and the Kid Vid;)

    it's all good :D glad you had a good 4th with it, as for me,, I got 'out and about' all weekend wich was really great considering the last 6 weeks.. had a great time myself.. but as for now Im dog tired so Im off to bed;) tnks again, pleasure was all mine and very happy you like what I sent ya.. now don't end up in divorce court from atari addiction :D lates

    in all honesty dude.. thats the first time I've seen a 'give' side to you as well as politnes.. I feel those last remarks were indeed truly sincere and I do appriciate it. I do apologise for how this went down, more a matter of circumstances and misreading each other than anything else I believe. Lets not be bitter about this,, lets both chaulk it up to a learning exsperiance.. honestly.. try to enjoy the stick.. I can easily let by-gones be by-gones. If you truely want the stick.. this would be a great one for your collection.. I don't feel it would be right to just 'give' it to you, but if you want it send me $20 and its yours.. I hope this give's you a better feeling about the situation.. kewl?? If you still don't want it.. ok.. but I am quick tempered I admit,.. but I also know not to hang on to anger and hate.. does not make a good person out of you..     and in all fairness.. I will extend yet another olive branch.. when you get it,, check it out.. it is truly one of the tightest I've sold out of about a dozen.. mint.. I seriously doubt you will easily find one of such quality.. so if you truly want it, and are MAN enough to admit at least 50% of this mess is your fault as well,, than you are more than welcome to keep it.. just repeat the payment.. I dont want anyone thinking Im not a fair person including you.. tnks
