  1. It depends on the mode of transportation. If you are taking a car and get prone to car sickness like I do, I say stay away from puzzle games. You will be using your brain so much it might be puke city. You want to have a mindless shooter like a Roadblasters, Raiden or a Zarlor Mercernary. Maybe a Gates of Zendocon or nice Paperboy session. If you are taking the plane, then go right ahead. A puzzle game will make the time go by really fast. If you want to get good sleep on the trip, I suggest A few minutes of Turbo Sub, Gauntlet, Switchblade or Robosquash. They are so repetitive and dull thay are better than hypnotism.

    Have a nice trip.

  2. Carl, only a 99.4% rating on Ebay? What gives? I can't believe you had one disatisfied customer in your life. I don't know if I can trust your auctions anymore. That Caverns of Dispair reminds me of the Rolax watch I got from a guy off the street in South Philly. That watch was so hot, it kept me warm through the winter.

  3. Nintendo is really stepping over the line now, especially in light of the Activision Anthology, Namco, Williams anthologies which have a larger number of more advanced games on one cart. Heck, you can get the Gameboy Color version of Donkey Kong for $10 used which is the definitive version of the game on a handheld. Their endless reissuing of the same old games across different platforms at high prices are seriously undermining their credibility. This looks like a blatant rip off even to the most casual gamer. I am afraid Ninetndo is acting like a company in the unhealthy third spot on the food chain.

  4. Been getting my assed kicked regulary playing Mars Matrix on the DC and enjoying Star Lancer, an understated space combat Sim like Wing Commander. I don't know how anyone can get through Mars Matrix on one credit. It is absolutely the most insanely hard shooter if not game I ever come across. I love racking up 11 Billion points on the Elite Score Challenges. I wonder what the alternate backgrounds are like.

On the GBA I am playing Doom II.

On the PC, Serious Sam. A $2.50 investment well spent.

  5. Gordo is really simple and boring. There really isn't much challenge either. Desert Strike is an excellent game but it is really hard after the first stage. Robotron is spot on if it wasn't for the control scheme. Gauntlet is not really exciting but it is not in the bottom five. I grant you that Dirty Larry, Kung Food, Turbo Sub and Batman Returns are just dreck and Pit-Fighter is just an ugly mess. Hard Drivin's controls are an exercise in hair pulling frustration. However, you gotta see the bottom five games I picked. These ones are horribly buggy, absolutely boring and virtually unplayable. It has to go beyond disappointment which I put Electrocop, Gauntlet and Hydra. The game actually makes you want to burn it or feel like suing the developer for wasting your time.

  6. No. You have too many games and systems. You should save your money for things like food and rent. Seriously, you are asking Lynx FANATICS if you should get a Lynx. I think the response you get on this forum is that for the sake of all that is good in the gaming community and your mortal soul you should get a Lynx and then get every game and prototype on the planet including Kung Food, Pit-Fighter, Super Off Road and Turbo Sub! Those games are all that and a bag of chips hum-daddy!

  7. Careful with that Lynx 1 bud. The paint rubs off on those suckers. Lynx 2 does not have that problem. With that being said, the great thing about the Lynx is that some of the best games can be had for cheap. Klax, Shanghai, Xybots, Rampart, Pinball Jam can be had for less than $10 and some even less than 5. Its great to collect and play.

  8. Game Informer has their April Fool's Edition or Game Infarcer which makes a jab at fans of the Dreamcast. It is through a fictitious reviewer called "Killian, the Jaded Hardcore Gamer." I'm sorry I can't print the article out because it is in print and not on the net. Killian's bio is on pg.52 of the mag in which she states "Not since the release of Typing of the Dead has there been a truly revolutionary title." Later she states "Why do companies keep bringing back games like Prince of Persia and Spy Hunter when there is a gold-mine of future one-million sellers like Burning Rangers, Nights and Chu Chu Rocket sitting right before their eyes?... Oh, I know I've said this a thousand times before, but if you don't have a Dreamcast yet, buy one immediately. While at the store,, you might as well as sell your Xbox, Gamecubeand Playstation 2 as well since you'll never play them again."

There is a fictitious review of Killian's on page 55 for a game called "Stephen Hawking's Underground" In which she states that the graphichs are good, just not "Dreamcast good". The game "found myself longing for some of the classic racers of yesterday. This title can't hold a candle to racers like Daytona USA, F355 Challenge, Flag to Flag and Metropolis Street Racer. Never heard of those games? THat's because they're all on the Dreamcast, the best system that none of you chumps bought." Where it says developer, the review says "Well, It ain't Sega, that's for sure."

I thought it was funny, but you can see it was a jab at retrogamers, Fanboys, especially Sega fanboys and I suspect they were even refering to web sites and forums like this one. They actually have a real review of a Dreamcast game in their classic games section(!!) albeit it is a for the horrible game Heavy Metal: Geomatrix. I do not know why they would even take the time or space to print a review for this game except maybe to extend the point.

What do you you guys think? Are they making jest of the retrogaming community?

  9. They GS here in Jersey and PA do not sell used GBAs with instructions or boxes either. I agree this policy is incredibly stupid as it loses sales and alienates customers. I absolutely thinks its is a lame excuse to trot out the storage space issue. Their GBA boxes and have nowhere near the size of, let's say, a Genesis box.

  10. It is too bad that this system got squashed. It came out at the wrong time and by the wrong manufacturer. I took a flight to Spain which round trip was over 20 hors total and I played Cardfighters for about half that time. The battery life on that baby is absolutely awesome. No need to change any batteries whatsoever. Nice bright screen and the joystick really gives incredible control. It really was more advanced in so many ways than the GBA. It is just a shame that the library is so dang limited and slanted to fighters.

  11. Gigawing over Mars Matrix or Ikaruga? Pricewise Gigawing is much cheaper than the latter two games, however, Mars Matrix has the same shot reflect and experience system and has better graphics sound and lasts longer. Like Gigawing it is tougher than overcooked pork chops to play. So much so that you will be crying to mommy in the beginning. Heck even the ability to purchase strategy cheats won't help you that much. Still, if you can get it for $5 you won't feel ripped off by Gigawing despite its extremely short gameplay.

Yes, Gut's Reveng is also a good one too with some reat voice acting and you can float a battleship with the blood and gore. Can be had for $9 or even less used at Gamestop (Yes I am near a clearance center that sells the DC for 30% off).

  12. I love Card Fighters Clash. It is of the easy to learn hard to master variety. Is it me or sdoes your opponents get insanely tough? I got up to the semi finals and the first opponent throws out 1000 BP cards like they are candy. How do I ramp up my deck? Also can anyone use the Option card's backup function? I tired to use it but couldn't.

  13. If you don't like bullets all over the screen then avoid Mars Matrix which I think is insane although I like the way you can unlock options when you amass enough points. The problem is that the point levels to unlock them are also insanely high. The key to remember s that your ship in Mars Matrix has a smaller collision detection area than seen on the screen. Bulllets seem to go over the wings.

As for your question, I wouldn't get any of the above games. If you are a DC collector there must be some other games in your collection you can play. Giga wing lasts all of 2 minutes which is short even as a shooter. Outrigger reminds me of Virtua Cop. Carrier and Max Steel are dreck. You will be bored in less than fiteen minutes. If you have to get two, Outrigger and GIgawing would be two, but It is a lukewarm recomendation at best.

  14. I love my portables so I will take the Gameboy SP and the NEO Geo Pocket Color for best designs. I think the New Geo Aqua was cool and its the only portable with an analog joystick. It also has incredible battery life and a bright screen. The SP is really elegant and compact with a nice lighting system. The worst: of course the Virtual Boy. Any game system that causes physical problems has to be the worst.

  15. I am not ashamed to admit I bought the system and the games because they were cheap. However, I would never have started collecting the DC if it didn't have strong varied library of games. I think a lot of people are like me. They just knew a good value when they see it. I really do not care about Sega's history of missteps or the PS2 v. XBox. I just like the fact I can get 128 bit platform with a good stable of games for a bargain basement price.
