I am a recent collector, but I have now approximately 50 games with Samba and the official maracas, a Topomix arcade stick, DDR with dance pad, Ikaruga, Shenmue II and sports console. I really took advantage of the Gamespot clearance prices in South NJ and Philadelphia where everything was 30% off. In fact, they are planning on moving all Dreamcast stuff in the area to two designated "clearance" stores close by in Marlton and Milville. Adrien's rantings notwithstanding, the Dreamcast is (was?) a great gaming value for the money with the system and most accessories and games at excellent prices and good to excellent games in every category. For the collector it can only go up in value and some games are commanding quite a premium (see Street Fighter 3: Third Strike).
If you guys are interested I do have a Street Fighter 3 Double Impact with original instructions and case up for auction at Ebay with a low starting price. Enjoy.

You bastards hijacked my topic.

I loved Addams Family and I just loved the humor, the goals, the layout, the challenge, everything. It was the pinball game I played alll the time whne I was in law school. The two Star Treks were great. I also like the sound in the Fire Power game back in the mid eighties.

They make great door stops. You can also rest a drink on them and Trip Hawkins will be more than happy to sign one for you.
-
Hmm. 3 bucks for Giga Wing. That's a buck for each minute of gameplay.

The Lynx game does grow on you but there are serious control problems here. I don't know why they just didn't use the joypad for acceleration instead of using the button. This makes using the siren all the more harder and the gun impossible. Also, the way the game is set up w/o the need to catch speeders makes the radar practically useless. The fact they kept a lot of the aspects of the arcade is a plus, but the control scheme really keeps it from being a classic.

Gamestop had 30% off deals for all Dreamcast stuff, including the system and the peripherals so there are good deals to be had but the window is closing. In New Jersey, right outside of Philadelphia, by 2/22 there will be no more Dreamcast stuff as well as NES, SNES, N64 and Genesis on the racks. They are moving the Dreamcast stuff to the Milville store, which is quite a hike and really not worth the effort. They are anmticipating the next-gen of consoles coming out from Sony and Microsoft. I am happy that I got what I did because I think the presentation, prices and customer service are better than EB. However, collectors of these systems will surely rue the day when the older systems will no longer be available in the retail stores.

I think there is a Lizzie McGuire game. Of course, Brittany "fifteen minutes ago, fifteen minutes ago" had a video game. It made Revolution X look like Doom. Journey way back in the 2600 days had the first video game to ever be licensed as an arcade game. Sports games have so many endorsers its not even funny. Roger Clemens, Mario Lemieux, Tommy Lasorda had games that were absolute dreck. I think the first sports celeb to endorse was actually a good game- EAs Larry Bird v. Julius Erving, one on one basketball. Tony La Russa and Earl Weaver had probably the best computer baseball games ever.

Ok, I don't own an Xbox but I played NBA Street Vol.2 on it and I tell you, it's all that and a bag of chips hum daddy. It oozes replayability and style. Of course, Madden is a great sports game on it and you gotta have Halo.

This grammatical and spelling disaster was brought to you by Chicken Little, the boy who cried wolf and Aricept.

I actually still have this game with the box and instructions in storage. It is indeed a frustrating game but has its fun moments. And yes, it was made by Virgin. Don't know if you are interested in a trade or buy. I'm interested in the Dreamcast but I also have a GBA, Neo Geo and Sega Nomad.

Is the shooter going the way of the dinosaur? Is it that old fashioned or has it been played to death? Also, is it me or Rez a triumph of style over substance? At its heart, there really isn't any variety and it is way too short.

Yes. I think the price for a FINISHED release by a programer is excellent and refreshing especially in the wake of previous releases and even from large software developers inexcusably trotting out buggy unfinished products on current platforms for $30+.

If you include PC games in the Dos/ Win95 era then you you would have to include Ultima and Ultima Underground and my favorite games of all time System Shock I and II. System Shock worked as an RPG and FPS. The deepest, scariest, most abosrbing RPG of all time.

This is extremely subjective and there are so many subquestions on what is the "best" system? What are you willing to spend? What kind of games are you into, fighters, arcade, etc.? Do you want to be mercenary and look for a system that would appreciate in value? Portable vs. console? Gamer vs. Collector? Classic v. recent? Heck, how much closet space you have? Want a limited library or do you want an evolving one? Obviously, no one system can be considered the best system, it all depends on your preferences. You can only go by which system suits your preferences.
Me, I classify myself as a gamer on the cheap with limited space who likes a wide range of games. I also like "underappreciated" systems whose hardware was ahead of their time. With that being said, I collect portables- Sega Nomad, Lynx, and NEO Geo Pocket. I have only one console, the Sega Dreamcast. I feel the best system now of the ones I have are the Nomad and Dreamcast. The hardware is quite astonishing and there is a wide range of games that can be had for a song. I feel that the Dreamcast at this very moment is the best gaming value you can have with the potential for appreciation to be large. The window is closing on the Dreamcast as I learned that Gamestop is phasing out the Genesis and Dreamcast entirely. I just love the Dreamcast and you can pick three of them up for less than the cost of one Xbox or Playstation 2 game. It is slanted towards fighters but has decent representation in all genres- sports (It is too bad that NBA Street never made it to the system, though- That game is all that and a bag of chips), puzzle, party games (Samba, Bomberman, Ooga Booga), arcade, driving, platformers, and to a lesser extent RPGs (Shenmue, Grandia II, Skies of Arcadia). Collecting presents somewhat of a challenge with the imports and amazingly enough the peripherals (maracas, fishing controller, the "twin sticks" for Virtual On). For space considerations the Dreamcast and Nomad are ideal. You can hook the Nomad to the TV and play it as a console.

The Lynx has some surprisingly good puzzlers, the ones I like are Shanghai, Chips Challenge and Crystal Mines II. Ishido is good too but not compared to the first three. Of course Klax on the lynx is THE definitive version. I know it is a hybrid but Rampart has some great puzzle aspects as well.

Yes I still play and I do play in the East region. They recently added a patch version 1.10 to improve online play and prevent cheating. I love Diablo 2 and I find it one of the most replayable games ever. I'm a team player and I usually use the Palladin to help others in the party.

Man, when is Mystique going to rise from the dead like SNK to make remakes of Custers Last Stand and Beat It and Eat It. From the "games" that are being published like that volleyball game there seems to be a sicko audience for them.
-
Man, I thought they hit an all time low when the 2600 had that Beat it and Eat it game. I thought THAT was the all time most disgusting concept. I am more depressed that the bar has been lowered again. Soon I expect a game will come out that you get style point by the way you get down with barnyard animals.

Where I can get one of these PSX to DC adapters? I just got a DC dance pad from Lik-Sang, however, it took three weeks for it to ship.

Sorry if I came on a little strong. I was just asking if you played those other games on the Lynx/Hnady that I just mentioned. They are truly bad games and PitFighter's graphics are retina burning bad. I stand by Crazy Ace because it is simply inexcusable like Super Off Road to put out an unfinished game and sell it for big bucks.
Yeah, Shaq Fu for the Genesis is absolute crap. BTW you can get it for .25 at Gamespot.
-
Yeah, Bill and Ted doesn't exactly light it up for me, but do you think its the worst on the system? Worse than Turbo Sub, Pit-Fighter, Cyberball, Hard Drivin? Crazy Ace was so bad, Telegames repeated the last two holes to make a nine hole course. And what about their other game, Super Off Road? The game is choppier than the Pacific during a hurricane.
-
ET for the 2600 is not a good game but it is not the worst. I am actually impressed that the game is playable considering the insane deadline to get the game out. I think Froggo games aspire to get to ET's level. I do believe the Swordquest series is a horrible waste of time and an insult to gamers everywhere. I just thought Skeet Shoot was absolutely the worst of the worst.
Blue Stinger is not great but there are definitely worst games for the Dreamcast, although I believe the system churned out on the whole quality titles. There is an absolutely pointless basketball game call EPSN NBA2Night which is as bad as the incredible NBA2K2 is good. NFL Quarterback Club which is even more pointless considering NFL2K1 (Heck even NFL Blitz) is out there.
There is a ton of crap on the GBA. Britney's Dance Beat anyone?
-
Second that. BTW Cryptik 1 Euro is about $1. Anyway, got to know the games- If it is Pit-Fighter, Batman Returns, Turbo Sub, Cyberball, Switchblade and Robosquash, I would say thanks but no thanks. If there is a Lemmings, Battlezone, Missle Command, Desert Strike, I would suggest that you give me the name of the web dealer so that I can look into it in more detail.
We need more info, ie. New in Box, games, the case in the box, shipping, etc. before we can tell you if its a good deal or not. -
Oh and another:
GBA- Shrek Cart Races.
Lifetime underachievement- Any Batman game. All platforms, relentlessly bad games.

Sigh... a sad day

I can only speak for my neck of the woods (Philadelphia/ South Jersey) but Gamestop is consolidating the Dreamcast stuff from area stores to two "clearance" stores in Marlton and Milville, New Jersey. Milville is sort of in the boonies but I know the manager of the Voorhees store whose husband is the manager of the Milville store and I can get the games I want shipped via inter store transfer to the Voorhees store. From what I understand, the managers of these two stores specifically requested to have the Dreamcast games and accessories shippe to their stores because of the demand. In either case, I am very fortunate to have a great resource close by and I can get Dreamcast stuff for great prices without resorting to the Ebay madness.
