  1. There was a link for the five best games per system. I am posting the absolute dreck per system. Those games that are so bad that they are an insult to society let alone gaming. Here are mine base upon my admitedly limited gaming experience.

    Atari 2600- Skeet Shoot

Atari Lynx- Krazy Ace Minature Golf

    PC- Survivor: The "Interactive" Game,

Sega Dreamcast: The Spirit of Speed 1937

    XBox- Terminator3

    N64- Superman 64

Neo Geo Pocket- Dive Alert! (Admittedly not awful but the worst on a solid handheld)

This is based on what I played. Admitedly I haven't played alot of the other systems if at all. I do have a Genesis Nomad but have not played truly awful games on it (Sonic 3d excepted)

  2. Virtua Tennis is a fantastic game and a must have for the Dreamcast. Tennis 2K2 is really more of the same. You can pick up VT for $4 now at Eb or Gamestop and 2k2 for $9, so you can't lose either way. It is an incredible sim. And now if you don't have a Dreamcast, you can pick one up used or refurbed at EB for $20. That means you can get VT and the system for HALF the price of a new Top Spin. That is what we call a bargain.

  3. The Lynx version indeed started out as an Epyx game called "Quests and Treasure Chests". It is like Gauntlet in that it has mazes, however it has some very un Gauntlet like aspects like the characters, enemies, quai roleplaying aspects, computers (!!). The best aspect is the ability to Lynx up with up to four players. It is a fair game but no where near the best arcade ports the Lynx has.

  4. I don't go into those stores as Gamestop and EB have the better selection and prices. Still, you get a wide range of prices for the same thing, especially at EB where different stores have different prices for the same game. I saw a Record of Lodoss War go for $10 in one EB and $25 (!!) in another. I saw a new fishing controller go for $10 one place, $20 another. I really reccomend shopping around because it is still a buyer's market for Dreamcast stuff. I din't really reccomend Ebay at this time as the shipping alone make the games more expensive than the stores.

  5. 1. I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned: The constantly changing release date- "Duke Nukem Forever will finally come out (insert hopelessly optimistic date)."

    2. The corollary- Vaporware.

    3. The second corollary- Buggy games, especially ones that lock up the console/computer. I really don't want to download the 5.2 MB patch version 10.01 from the net. That is what you have playtesters for.

  6. I found some reviews concerning Border Down for your review and comment:

    http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/...ast/borderdown/

They are not particularly glowing reviews and it gives me pause, especially considering the high price.

I also found some reviews for Rez which are extremely positive:

    http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/.../dreamcast/rez/

It seems that Rez is a pretty original game, one that I might be interested in.

What is it about Omikron that makes it a good game? I never really got into it that much and it certainly didn't get high marks.

  7. Oh I knew I missed two obvious ones. Jet Grind Radio is a classic and deserves to be in there over Dead or Alive 2. MDK 2 is a great if hard game and deserves to be in there over Street Fighter Alpha 3. I have to look at Border Down, but if it is as people suggest, it would replace Ikaruga. Rez I have not played either. These imports can only be found on the net and they command a premium.

  8. I hope it is not true as Gamestop and EB prices routinely beat Ebay. Still I see ominous signs. The mall stores no longer carry Dreamcast and Genesis stuff and many of the suburban stores are shipping inventory either to other stores or back to the warehouses. It is increasingly hard to find things in the stores. Still, Gamestop had that great buy 2 get 1 free sale and I was able to snag Shenmue II import for an incredible $20.00. EB games dropped the price of the Dreamcast console to $19.99(!!!) although their pricing on games is weird ($31 for Metropolitan Street Racer?) You gotta get it now when they are dumping it before it all goes.

  9. I was perusing Digital Press's list for the top 20 Dreamcast games and I found it OK but it missed some real obvious ones. I figure AA posters can do better. The link can be found here:

    http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1569

My personal top 20 (No particular order) based on personal game experience and general crititcal response (Yes it includes imports):

    Soul Calibur (of course)

    Dead or Alive 2

    Street Figher 3 Alpha

    NBA 2K2

    NFL 2K1

    Crazy Taxi

    Rayman 3

    Tony Hawk 2

    Virtua Tennis

    Ikaruga

    Samba de Amigo

    Marvel v. Capcom 2

    Unreal Tournament

    Quake 3

    Phantasy Star Online

    Sonic Adventure

    Resident Evil: Code Name Veronica

    Shenmue II (Import)

    Bangai-O

    Skies of Arcadia

I am sure I missing a few but you got to have show why one game is deserving of the top twent over others. I need a solid driving game to replace maybe Quake 3 or Street Fighter Alpha or Bangai-O. Still, the above list I think are must haves in any Dreamcast Collection.

  10. Sorry, but as I understand the historical impact of Space Invaders, releasing the ARCADE cabinet again after all of this time when the arcades are dying for years, seems not too bright. Everyone has moved on a LOOOONG time now and you can get Space Invaders anywhere as much as you can get Tetris, anyway. You don't need to spend $3000 (!!!!) for a bulky cabinet to play the button or joystick version when you got MAME and a computer. The arcades have no interest when they can charge more for better and more interactive games like linked driving games, dance games, skiing games with real skiing controls (etc.). It really is for people with too much money and time and not enough brains.

  11. Batman Returns as the top five games you played on the Lynx, GoatDan? Hmm. You must have played all of the Lynx games including Shanghai, Xenophobe, Klax, Paperboy, Joust, Missle Command, Rampart, Chips Challenge, Crystal Mines II, Ninja Gaiden, S.T.U.N. Runner, Rampage, A.P.B., Raiden, Zarlor Mercenary, Ms. Pac-man, Pinball, Rygar, Slimeword, Toki, Battlezone, Robotron, Lemmings, Desert Strike, etc. et al. and you still find Batman Returns in the top five? Well, that 's your opinion.

Jung's reviews are generally ok and I absolutely agree with him on Electrocop, the most overated game the Lynx has, but no one is 100%. He is wrong on the Batman Returns game as the game is virtually unplayable and unexceptional side scroller which is totally inferior to the Ninja Gaiden series also on the Lynx. I still remember a reviewer on another website gave the game a 6% and said it was the second worst game he ever played. It is strictly for collectors only.

My advice, before buying the game, try it on the Handy emulator first, if you can.

  12. Of course I mean the Dreamcast. and Grand Theft Auto is what I was thinking of too. My brain gets ahead of my typing. I really have to proof read these posts sometimes. Anywhoo..

Where other than Ebay can you get the Maracas? Gamespot and EB don't have em though I see the guns everywhere. How many VMU's do you need? Also, I understand you can do Emulation on th Dreamcast, for example Mame, and SNES. How hard is it to set it up on the system?

BTW, I chose games based upon the reviews in Gamerankings, the top 20 list in Digitpress, my personal likes. Are there any games that you feel are good despite the general poor reviews. Mars Matrix seems to come to mind. Some people swear its good despite the tepid reviews.
