I'm pretty sure they can give health benefits without raising costs and not exactly breaking the fucking bank. Wal-mart mostly buys products from countries that have cheap and questionable labor. They pay less than average to clerks which puts them under the poverty line. They have been accused of voilating child labor laws and local regulations for time for breaks and meals. In some states they have made unofficial policies requiring off-the-clock work. It has also been reported that sometimes late-night workers were locked in and unallowed to leave. Wal-Mart has used illegal undocumented workers. They have received low scores on workforce diversity. There has been some controversy on the products they do and do not sell. They have been prosecuted for predatory pricing. Not exactly looking good there. Oh, and people can't exactly go and get better jobs when Wal-Mart has forced other retailers out of business.
