How to open a Commodore VIC-20 cartridge
billysastard replied to ianoid's topic in Commodore 8-bit Computers
nothing wanted to play nicely so i jammed a screwdriver in and twisted it, plastic got a little gouged but it'll sand, it opened without any tabs breaking, turns out the rattle was two blobs of glue used instead of posts through the rear holes in the circuit board (looks the same as in the pics), anyway the board seems to fit firmly into place withing the housing but i'll give the card a test run naked first (with appropriate anti static measures) and check all is ok prior to snapping it all shut again. -

thanks for that unfortunately my vixen switchable ram cart has no screws and i need to open it as something has broken fee inside and is rattling around so i dont want to risk plugging it into the vic. this is the unit and cart in question http://www.nightfallcrew.com/18/05/2010/vixen-switchable-16k-ram-for-commodore-vic-20/(photos of the open cart included) -
pretty much anything from atari, synapse, broderbund, paradise, datamost, datasoft, lucasarts and the early ea titles (archon, mule, worms and hard hat mack) but if you have friends to play with i'd highly recommend trivia quest (4 player even on xl/xe), beyond that kennnedy approach and if you like pacman type games the biggest bastard of them all is tumble bugs.

well i've been hunting, still little clue on prices but i did find a "rarity list" on what sees judging by the links to it in google a fairly respected ti 99 website http://www.99er.net/rarity.htmlof the 3 i asked about 2 are listed as common, one as uncommon although his definition of uncommon seems a pretty low bar.... C = Common Everyone has it; most people have several duplicates U = Uncommon At a flea market, you'll usually encounter a few of these. as for prices your other thread on these carts shows up on google but tbh the prices someone suggested in there seem too low, i would certainly expect to pay more than was suggested there, trawling through "sold" and bin listings on ebay prices vary alarmingly from parsec at £3 (with manual) to a collection of 5 games (Parsec, Star Trek, Burgertime, Tunnels of Doom, Donkey Kong) which went for $6 (£3.87) with 5 bids

i really wouldn't know where to start, i only bought an ntsc ti-99/4a 3 weeks ago, joysticks 2 weeks ago and speech unit last week so currently i have no games at all and thus no idea on prices in the USA and ebay is little help since postal charges from the USA are often a joke (seriously, an unboxed snes game for £5 but £40 postage, when i usually buy from one seller there who only charges about £4.50 postage)

How many INDIVIDUAL consoles do you have?
billysastard replied to xDragonWarrior's topic in Classic Console Discussion
scratch the portfolio from my list, just dug it out and i'd forgotten to remove the batteries when i last used it (18 years ago) i doubt it's fixable i did however remember 2 more, an onlive microcosole and a bondwell pc-1 "laptop" (i use the term laptop very loosely as it uses 2 lead acid batteries) -
In development - SD card based Multicart
billysastard replied to electrotrains's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
i have the sd2sio which is great but an sd based multicart would certainly be on my must buy list, depending on price of course -
thats fair enough, i can understand that.

if you do decide to split there are 3 i'd be interested in picnic paranoia, pole position and shamus.

Arcadia 2001 Multicart - 2011 version - any interest?
billysastard replied to 5-11under's topic in Classic Console Discussion
is there any way to get this multicart running on an mpt-03 unit or is it only for arcadia systems? i know they are software compatible but the carts look very different so i doubt would fit. -
Joystick pinouts for BBC Micro, Help
billysastard replied to billysastard's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
thank you so much, i've passed the details on -
hi i recently purchased an amstrad aj-5 analog joystick (uses a 15 pin gameport for old pc's or amstrad gx4000/cpc+) and a quickshot pc analog stick and want to use them on my bbc b+ but i couldn't find anyone selling an adapter anymore, i know it's supposed to be a fairly simple job so i asked someone i've dealt with before (he makes all sorts of stuff commercially for the amiga) if he could build me one (i'm afraid no matter how easy, i couldn't do it now), he replied as follows..... "There is a lot of info online for the BBC and acorn analogue port, but not one of the documents I have found tells you which is the pin for the x axis pot, and which is the pin for the y-axis pot. All you get is: Joy1 ch0 = pin 15 Joy1 ch1 = pin 7 Joy2 ch2 = pin 12 Joy2 ch3 = pin 4 So it would be a 50-50 gamble guessing which two pins were for the x axis and which two pins were for the y-axis." is there anyone here who could help me out with the correct pinouts to make either a 1 or 2 port 15 pin adapter? thanks in advance.

How many INDIVIDUAL consoles do you have?
billysastard replied to xDragonWarrior's topic in Classic Console Discussion
obviously i can't speak for anyone else but for me all the systems i use are either in my front room or dining room, all the rest are piled in the old boiler cupboard 6 feet high and almost 5 feet deep (and fireproofed and locked) once the boiler was upgraded and moved it was just a large empty void off the hallway so i had it lined and shelved with hardwood and all the systems got shoved in there, most of the psu's are in a underbed plastic trunk, same for pads / sticks which are stacked up in the dining room and all the video leads are in one of those plastic tubs with a lid and that is on the psu / joystick pile, the exceptions are amiga, 360 arcade, launch 60gb ps3 and a few spare systems which are in the cupboard under the stairs. -
FS: Fairchild System (Channel F) Multi-Cart, pre-order now.
billysastard replied to e5frog's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
after a long time of lurking (and buying flash/multi carts from people here) i finally signed up so it's only fair that i post my thanks to e5frog for his excellent multi cart (and superb pacman game), took a while to get finished but it was well worth the wait, everything was perfect. -
The Complete List of Power Supplies
billysastard replied to bigbee99's topic in Classic Console Discussion
one thing i need to ask. about the game gear, am i risking damaging mine somehow by using the same psu i use for my pc engines, sms, megadrive 1, mega cd1 (and db pro fighter, wildcard dx, dr v64jr 512), because i've been using the same psu on them all for many years? -
