I finally built my 3rd yesterday using the full size SDCard SPI adapter, and it struck me as tough to get the SPI adapter to feel like it was level/parallel to the cartridge board. The solder tips from my pushbutton might not have been even. In the end I settled for fairly square against the headers and their spacer. Your board doesn't look bad from the photo. If you really want to desolder, you'd probably need to work with solder-braid. It works a bit like a sponge for solder. But all in all, if cases are made for these, I think they will have to include some variability in the window for the SDCard. Road Hunter is too big for a 32k ROM image. [email protected]

I thought about this. But then I moved it to a fresh .hfe image It could be done if all the stars are aligned. The DSR Loader would need to load both bank files of the DSR image into expansion ram before it tried to poke them into the board's DSR ram. You'd have to capture the breakpoint/start address at that perfect moment. I suppose if I paid attention to my disk activity I could answer that part easy enough. Then, I can't remember if that loader is in 40 column mode or 32... In order to continue the screen state, you'd need to capture sufficient portion of the VDP Ram. Classic 99 lets you do this. But you can't capture VDP registers, I don't think. Classic 99 has an option, I believe, to set them to a base state. Then, you have to get the VDP ram, expansion ram for the loader, and expansion ram for the DSR images, and cart-rom loader code to all fit in the ROM. Which it probably would. So, I didn't try If I moved everything off of my disk system, I'd never know when it breaks... And we can't have that now. It might be easier to just ask Fred to build his HDX loader to run from his FlashRom 99. I know he has one If we had this, though, you could run a lot of disk software with just the HDX mod and a FlashRom99 cartridge to boot strap the HDX. No disk drives required. [email protected] -
I actually had an interesting time this weekend. I went online with the TI browser and to Heatwave more often than normal. There was manipulation of classic99 to make more stuff loadable from the FlashRom99. That was fun. 80 column text on my TI was overdriving my TV that I call a monitor (I don't think technically, just from my visual aesthetic) So I switched my F18A back to scanline mode. For some reason that seemed easier than figuring out TV controls. While I was inside the beast, I took some time to further clean my cartridge port. It isn't dirty, but I have a hell of a time with rom cartridges. I've observed that it oxidizes quickly, but my carts all work better now. I was able to keep my PC activities to strictly TI activities. My only visit to amazon was to buy possible TI parts, as now I'm toying with building a replacement for the cartridge L adapter. I want gold contacts. I even used a physical cookbook to make a coconut eggplant dish, and made vegan 'chikin' adobo with nothing but my Filipino mother in-laws real chicken adobo recipe, to serve to my in-laws. It really bothered my wife that I didn't look up how to treat the jackfruit I substituted for the chicken. But she liked it in the end. My niece, not so much I by no means stayed 100% off of PC technology. But I reduced it's use quite a bit. In truth, I didn't use the TI to accomplish things I would have normally done from a PC, but I did reduce the amount of time-wasting on the PC, and smartphone. I actually drove to where I needed to go without google maps. Again my wife was all 'do you know how to get there?' where 'there' was her mother's house. I never let my wife in on that the behavior differences had anything to do with the TI. So it is still safe [email protected]

You want the images from here then: http://ftp.whtech.com/Cartridges/joined/ Most of those will run on an unexpanded system, just like the original cartridges from Atari and others. Unzip those files onto your sdcard, and you should have a large menu of mostly games.. [email protected]

I have rewritten history so you can't prove that after 20 some years as a software developer, I still make off by one errors (of course no one needs proof of that, as it is a given). This post is not an admission of guilt I believe I looked at my UberGrom board in bad lighting. That's my story.. and I'm sticking with it. (ok, excuses always sound like an admission.) Ah, that makes so much more sense. I got lucky somehow, somewhere, and the wrong thing. Luckily the flash ROM ignores that. Now I wonder what I did that fooled me into thinking that was correct. [email protected] -
High Score Competition (June: Road Hunter)

Another game I had never heard of. This one is challenging and fun... as usual, I thought I was doing well with a score 1/10th that of Globeron's. [email protected] -

Schmitzi asked for this TurboForth, so here it is. turboforth122-8.bin (edited: Renamed) Hmm... something is up with my classic99 installation... Try that image out anyway... I think it is good. [email protected] -
FlashROM99 - What kind of compilation(s) do you plan to make?
jedimatt42 replied to Omega-TI's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
I'll post it in the other thread. I'll add, it is really cool too have both fbForth and TurboForth on the same cartridge Along with a gazilion other tools... And if anyone has some XB program they love, they should compile it, then those can run off this wonder cart as well provided you have a memory expansion. -

Yep, I was just adding a 'n' to the name when non-inverting an inverted image, but then I realized I could test them in classic99 under the user-cartridge menu 'open' option if they were named ___9.bin ___8.bin ([email protected]: edited to correct my mistake) [email protected] -
Done. permalink: https://oshpark.com/shared_projects/SJstICiA Listed as: endlos99-flashrom99-rev2-TI-99 This board was designed by Ralph Benzinger. The cartridge allows playing ROM images stored on an SD card on an unexpanded TI 99/4A, and so much more with an expanded TI. For complete details see the homepage [email protected]

I had my eye on this, so I went ahead and merged these two great efforts into one happy marriage. Fred's EAII, and Fred's 80 column EDIT1, this was just a simple matter of cut-n-paste in the hex editor. EAII80Edit-8.bin ([email protected]: edited post to rename file) -

I didn't see anything on whtech either. There is a limanews review of it, and then the F18A version someone posted. If you take the disk version, and run PRCONFIG, a manual could be created by taking notes on all of the key presses it asks about changing. [email protected] -

Oh, yep, this technique required expansion ram, the cart image being created is just a loader for expansion ram. It's like making a partial 'save state' and bundling it into a cartridge that restores state. An appropriate feature for an emulator [email protected] -
I'm guilty of making purple rev 1 boards, but I just made the minimum OSHPark batch of 3. I also exported the gerbers following some OSHPark instructions, but I see they actually take the KiCad pcb file directly as documented here: http://docs.oshpark.com/design-tools/kicad/ <- I didn't know that at the time. I don't have any plans to run any more pcboards. I only ran some for my own use. [email protected]

The classic99 image is an inverted rom and you need to make a non-inverted rom. Grab this tool: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/193163-512k-cartridge-status/page-16?do=findComment&comment=3025762 The 3.bin generally indicates it is an inverted rom. This tool will simply prompt for an input file, and then for an output file, and swap the banks going from inverted to non-inverted or vise versa. I've found that if I name the non-inverted image __9.bin __8.bin then classic99 will load those too. I think there is a discussion of that over in the classic99 updates thread. Anyway, the FlashRom99 required non-inverted images. So that should do the trick. ([email protected]: Edited to correct my 9/8 bin mistake) [email protected] -
Maybe everyone is using there TI's to work on those programming projects. [email protected]

Oh, and if I were more civilized, I'd probably have said: "Nice job Lee!" because it is, definitely a nice job! That is a sharp addendum. I tried out a few bits I hadn't before, and it seemed to work as described. Sadly, I haven't had a chance to do much with the new speech and ISR features. But my existing user ISR were in no way broken by them. I suspect soon enough, this will go to the printer! Thanks! [email protected]

PREDIT80-8.bin ([email protected]: edited to rename file) I snagged a cart loader out of the classic99 debugger for PREDITOR configured in 80 column mode, and with CHARA1 embedded, so you get nice lowercase font and a visible cursor. These should be the default key configurations, or at least it is whatever the PR file in whtech/f18a PREDITOR.dsk had set. With the PRCONFIG, I only changed the the 80 column mode option. On page 30, Appendix B, the last 3 entries... SCRFNT and JMODE use one notation for not zero, and then WRAP uses a different notation. Same thing on page 33 for WRAP. It seems it would be good to express this in the same way, unless I'm misunderstanding something. [email protected]

I thought I had read that people have repaired QI ROM only/Atari cart issues by swapping the OS ROM chips. But I have never seen any write-up on the procedure. ??? Was that a real practice at one time? [email protected]

FlashROM99 - What kind of compilation(s) do you plan to make?
jedimatt42 replied to Omega-TI's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
What other tools go with telecommunications and the browser? I've never used 4a archiving software, but I imagine I should find and prep that to reside near TIMXT for those BBS downloads. A collection of programming tools will be nice. I like using the legacy tools while learning the base level skills. I would like an 80 column editor next to EA, or just about any compilation of utils. Comes in handy next to the browser for managing favorites too. [email protected] -
I personally have trouble with just my cartridge port and ROM carts. Maintaining good contacts has been elusive to me. The flashrom99 cart is longer and doesn't have support, which makes it very very finicky for me, and subject to being disturbed while playing games. [email protected]
