  1. You can do a 6 meg game without doing bank switching. Of course you can do bigger with bank switching, up to any size pretty much.
  2. Well, the 32-bit realm has spoken, and it's not ready to be buried just yet. 2.1.2 version is up now. There was also a problem with non-English locales causing VJ to crash; this should be fixed now.
  3. F11 is an undocumented key, mainly used for development. I really should comment those out for point releases. At any rate, ggn discovered a catastrophic bug in the controller config, so 2.1.2 will be coming sooner than later.
  4. OK, OK, 32-bit builds are up now.
  5. @trueanimus: What do you have the 'Maps to:' set for on the keyboard device and your gamepad device? If you don't have those set correctly, it won't work. @serj: We're working on tracking down the problem. Seems to occur on either the 32-bit or 64-bit builds.
  6. Honestly don't know, as I've never seen them. Maybe you could post them?
  7. The big change this time around is better gamepad support. It has changed from being Jaguar controller focused model to a device focused model, which means that you can attach your gamepads and VJ will remember how you have them configured (even the keyboard). There are a few other minor things in this release (mostly for developers), we hope you like it! Virtual Jaguar homepage N.B.: Mac version will be coming soon. Also note that the Windows build is now 64-bit; if there is enough demand for it, we'll roll up a 32-bit version as well.
  8. If ALN supported .a files, then RLN should too. Do you have any documentation of the format?
  9. Symbols prefaced with a period (".") are local labels, which means that you can have multiple labels with the same name in between regular labels (labels with no period in front). As far as those coders using numbers for their local labels, I'm pretty sure that's purely a matter of style and nothing more. The only way to know for sure would be to contact those guys and ask them why they did it that way.
  10. Well, it would seem that the problem is that the Jaguar attracts "special" people who jump into forums they've never been in and start making all kind of ridiculous claims and slinging insults as if they were a long time contributor. Such are best ignored, IMO. Congratulations Mr SQL, you win! 1000 Internets to you sir!
  11. The "GPU in Main Rules" were a bunch of injected macros and other miscellaneous bodges that have no business being in an assembler--that kind of thing belongs in a preprocessor, if anywhere. And injected macros? Really? If someone wanted that stuff bad enough, they could write a header with the appropriate macros to get that functionality back.
  12. Stuff and nonsense. Those videos are nothing more than rotten garbage made out of whole cloth--with nary a shred of solid evidence. Thanks, but I'd sooner believe the moon was made of green cheese than believe a word from that ridiculous and contemptible liar.
  13. As I don't have a Mac to test with, it's really difficult for me to troubleshoot such things. So all I can do is offer the following shots in the dark: Have you looked at the paths in the configuration dialog? Maybe those are being corrupted somehow? It shouldn't matter if you run the app from Finder or from a terminal, either way should work. But if the Insert Cartridge dialog is coming up blank, then there's definitely a path problem somewhere.
  14. I started out with an Atari 800, built like a tank and I still have fond memories of that keyboard. Didn't get a floppy drive for some time after that, so I spent quite a bit of time typing in stuff from magazines only to lose it when I turned off the machine. I learned Atari BASIC (didn't everyone? ), and eventually 6502 machine code, but Action! still remains to this day my favorite way to program the machine. Even with its limitations (single-pass compilation anyone?). Some time later I swapped my 800 with someone else's 800XL. I also managed to get a Commodore 1702 monitor to pair it up with, and the difference between that and the old 19" color TV I had it hooked up to before was incredible (I had a nice large speaker hooked up to that TV as well, and had lots of fun with that setup). After a while, the STs started coming out and I really, really wanted one--mainly because of the color and resolution that were possible with those machines. Let's just say that the limitations of the 8-bit line were wearing a bit thin. So, eventually I got one, but never really got into it as the BASIC on it was terrible, and I didn't have any other languages for it. I did have fun with Time Bandits and Dungeon Master though. And Cubase--it was a killer app for me on the ST. Many years later, as I was throwing out old technology, the ST went right out the door. But when I was going to do the same to my old 800XL, I just couldn't bear to throw it out. So I still have it to this day. I'll probably set it up again once I get more space, but in the meantime I use Atari800 when I want to have some 8-bit fun.
  15. It's obviously too deep for us mere mortals to comprehend.
  16. @ProWizard: Oh please. All that people have been posting WRT Pete is publicly available information that HE put on the interwebs. It isn't like people are stalking him to find out where he llives, who his family is, etc. Nobody is trying to ruin him; he's doing a bang-up job of that all by himself. That said, I agree with Irgendwer. Pete could have approached this whole thing very differently and who knows? Maybe he would have eventually given up his project anyway. I think the thing that gets most people riled up is the lying. We've seen over the years here a few (fortunately very few) people who would get caught up in pretty outrageous lies that a little digging revealed--however the persons telling the lies would deny that they lied with more and more righteous indignation. I think that more than anything is what grinds people's gears here. So the irony of the situation here is that Pete is the one that needs to come here and offer his apologies to us. I think if he did that, and came clean about the fact that RPC Games ! is just him (I used to work for someone who did the same thing, though he would never continue the ruse with someone who figured him out), it would go a long way towards mending bridges. If he would just come clean I think he would find himself in the midst of one of the best and most supportive dev environments around.
  17. Thanks Heaven/TQA, that's 2 1/2 minutes of my life that I will never, ever get back.
  18. Dear RPC Games !, Please take your ball and go home. You have nothing to offer, even though there are plenty of people asking you to 'shut up and take my money'. If you were for real, you wouldn't be playing these childish games of 'apologize and maybe we'll think of releasing' what may or may not be an actual playable game. You are an unprofessional, whiny attention whore. Enough already. Get lost. Sincerely, An Atari User P.S. Bite my shiny metal 4$$.
  19. So to those who were thinking that this amazing, brand-new-to-world, flicker-free, proprietary gfx mode is done via flickering, turns out you were right. From the developers mouth: So there you have it. BTW, I am deliberately not linking to the forum where that appeared, as I have no desire to drive traffic to those guys. But if you're determined, you can find it.
  20. Lying inference? Trolling negativity? Puh-lease. RPC Games! has already been waving his dick around in the 8-bit forums, yammering on about how they discovered a brand-new-to-the-world propretary graphics mode--it kinda leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Not to mention bragging about how great he is. So yeah, there's pretty much nothing outside of AA threads on the web relating to RPC Games!, so it's pretty difficult to say exactly what 'they' bring to the table other than lots and lots of hype. Am I jaded? Probably. But I don't have a lot of patience for people who jump in somewhere with absolutely no reputation claiming that they are the second coming of Scatalogic. If I'm wrong, then I will be the first one to offer apologies to RPCG!. But I'm not going to hold my breath either. And yes, you have to have a very thick skin to develop for the Jaguar. If your intention is to make money, you will be bitterly disappointed (unless, of course, your intention is to game the market, then yee-haw). If you're worried about teh pirasee, you're in the wrong place barking up the wrong tree. You have to do it for the love of the game, otherwise you're looking to inflict a world of hurt upon yourself for nothing. That's all.
