Soooo... Genesis version, censored, an extra block button, and a big pic of MK3 Scorpion on the side? I'd say you get what you pay for, but half the time the expensive stuff sucks too.

Looks cool, cool, if I may ask a stupid question, how big is 1/4 scale really? I'd really like a Ms Pac-man with an arcade rom... and Space Invaders, but I'm paralyzed by the number of choices for that one. I'd like one with no stick personally.
Probably been discussed but does anybody know the roms being used for these little Tiny Arcade guys?

What purpose would that serve, except to enrich PolyMegaMeataBlox?
I think you cracked the puzzle.

But maybe some of the time, talent and money that goes into trying to scam people with insane Frankenstein monsters like this would get better returns if they tried making a quality product that would appeal to retro gamers. It's a strangely untapped market...

Alphabetize? That's borderline ocd territory...

Seems common sense to me... you open up any collection of 30+ retro games and they're typically going to be sorted. I mean for some "Company X Classic Collection" etc sort of game compilation. On a pre-built MAME cab or a Chinese multicart or whatever, you're liable to see 100+, or even over a thousand, unsorted games. It's kind of a bootleg way of doing things...
I just loaded up Bad Dudes NES -- B jumps & A punch and kicks
So yes the game is intentionally backwards if you feel that way about it. It never bothered me before.
So... I guess on the Bad Dudes micro cab, the game itself swaps the usual A & B functions, but the cab swaps A & B again, so it ends up canceling out?

It shouldn't be a problem unless one allows it to be since these are the arcade games, not NES versions.
Very belatedly it occurs to me that Bad Dudes was actually one of the very few NES games to botch this:
I'm still chalking it up as a mistake... as time passes I'm actually a little irritated that they didn't bother to alphabetize the games, either
Pak-Attack was the Tetris style dropping blocks puzzle where you had to eat the ghosts. Never heard of Pac Panic.
Pacman 2 The New Adventures was a point and click style adventure game for the SNES / Genesis.
Pac Panic is just the Japanese name of Pac Attack. Pretty fun game actually. I wonder if they will use the Genesis versions of these two... it's probably not the best one.
In other news, Replicade's third machine (after Centipede and Tempest, assuming any of these actually come out) will be Street Fighter 2: Championship Edition, of all things... seems like an odd choice if they could have just as easily done Hyper Fighting, but at least it has an extra controller for 1v1?

If you read around on E3 news yes. 10" system, 20 games, 18 of them are arcade games, the other 2 should be Genesis as they're the non-arcade sequels of Rolling Thunder 2 and Splatterhouse 2. Same general innards, different shape to the plastic body, namco stickers on it obviously, but otherwise basically the same device with Namco games instead of the other.
Should be out later this year, not sure what month, and looks to be the same price too. When does beg the question how much did Namco charge in licensing fees to My Arcade that they had to cut it at 20 leaving off so much more as the DE unit has over 30.
Pac-man 2 and Pac Panic are also console exclusives I believe... could be Genesis versions, might be another?
I don't know how much DE charged for the likes of Scrum Try et all, but they should probably be glad they got it...

A Korean friend of mine translated the website and they are talking about a release in july or august.
Probably initial release isn't worldwide though, right?
What I'd really like is some assurance that the buttons can be reconfigured... you'd think that after putting in save states, monitor support, controller ports etc they couldn't possibly miss that, but apparently we can't take anything for granted.
-
How do you play games like Splatterhouse on a small vertical screen like that? Seems odd that My Arcade didnt just stick with vertical games for this release. They could have released a sequel with a horizontal screen for games like Splatterhouse.
Speaking of Splatterhouse (one of my favorites), what about a Splatterhouse mini arcade? They could use the translated Famicom rom since it would have to work with the NOAC.
I agree about the screen. I half-expect the aspect ratio to be stretched vertically, while people try to say "it doesn't look that bad!"

Conventional wisdom says that a Japan-only Famicom game wouldn't fly off the shelves of Wal-mart... but I'd get it day 1.

Actually you press up.
It was down the last time I checked. If up also works, that's interesting to know.

Ever find it ironic that modern Namco seem to pretend Ms Pacman doesn't exist when it comes to compilations?
I actually emailed MyArcade requesting Splatterhouse about a month ago, and what do you know? I especially never, ever would have expected Splatterhouse 2 to make it onto one of these things. They seemed to have memory-holed that franchise after the PS3 game had such a shaky dev history and reception. I guess I should've asked for a Ms Pacman mini cab while I was at it, but I thought it would go without saying. Could be saving it for Volume 2 or something?
I wonder how that mini Centipede arcade machine that was on Kickstarter not too long ago is doing?
It's listed on Amazon, and the Tempest machine is actually available for pre-order (supposedly due to ship in September). The guys behind it don't seem to be giving a lot of concrete info on the whens and how muches so far, and it's Kickstarter, so I'll refrain from getting my hopes up and assume that it will either come out in five years or quietly disappear, and be pleasantly surprised otherwise.

I recall quite a few games in the day not having that more Nintendo style of action and jump in that order you prefer, but the arcade was a total in the weeds experience and stuff was setup however both the developer wanted, but also repurposed/reshopped cabs got even further creative too with stuff. It shouldn't be a problem unless one allows it to be since these are the arcade games, not NES versions.
Not untrue, but I suspect 99 people out of 100 would prefer it the NES way given the choice. Anyway, on further testing, Tumble Pop doesn't "swap" the buttons, possibly to match the onscreen tutorial when you start the game. I think that's the only one.

Product page is up now on Amazon.
No price just yet.
Release date December 31, 2019Surely not really, right?

Why???

To be as charitable as I can...
1) Some of the actual cabs may (?) have been laid out like that? I see some pics of Joe & Mac cabs where the buttons seem to be oriented vertically, which is even weirder
2) It's not nearly as distracting to play with that config using my index and middle fingers on an arcade controller (mini or otherwise), as opposed to using my thumb on a gamepad. Speaking only for myself here.
It doesn't ruin it (for me). But it's annoying because it would cost them nothing to get this right -- no expensive hardware or licensing issues, just a line in a config file.
Other impressions: the 16:9 aspect ratio doesn't bother me as much as I expected, and the screen is nice and bright. Speakers can get pretty loud (volume is adjustable). Buttons are "good enough", and the stick that screws into a pad that everybody likes to take jabs at is actually a good idea imo (stick looks more arcade-y but a pad is more practical at that size).
The most interesting thing to me is, surprisingly, the game selection, which has a lot of stuff that's pretty obscure (no wikipedia articles for some) but after some brief test driving, looks pretty interesting. It seems weird that I've never heard of e.g. Nitroball or Wizard Fire before, they seem pretty cool. ~Four Xevious clones, if you like that sort of thing (pass). Three beat em ups with no z-axis, which you don't see too often. Pretty heavy on overhead shooters. Would've been nice to have Chelnov or Night Slashers (if the hardware could hack it). Not bothering with Heavy Barrel or Midnight Resistance with this controller.

Not worth $100 to me, was worth around $45 so I grabbed one. Sellers rating is 99.9% so they're not clowns.
Good for everyone but me... my $75 DE mini arcade arrived today. To add insult to injury, for every platformer on this thing: the jump button is on the left, and the attack button is on the right... exact opposite of an NES controller, or most arcade cabs, or pretty much anything. Nothing quite says "designed by people who have never played a video game before" like that control setup, usually only found in a few very old games or terrible ports. Guess I should've read the fine print?

I keep questioning the DE one with the walmart price drop currently. I know I like Joe & Mac, Bad Dudes, Breakthru, Burgertime, Heavy Barrel, and B-Wings. I'd assume sequels would be solid to those and probably bloody wolf too but the rest seem like gutter filler mostly, so I kind of question on the whole if I'd get my value which is annoying.
Joe & Mac Returns is actually a Bubble Bobble-type single screen platformer, and pretty nice. Tumble Pop is a similar sort of game I think.
I just broke and ordered this, although the 16:9 ratio is a major minus for me. Also, lack of dial/analog controls for the games that use it means that I would never ever play them on this. This is the first mini arcade dealie I've dropped money on, mainly because it actually uses arcade roms, which is a whole world of difference for some of these games.

Is there a complete list of all the homebrews that were at CFG? I played a bunch I'd like to look into, in particular this one where you assemble little frog-looking guys out of four parts. Thanks.
