OLD SC1 is right on the money. I have both C-64C versions. They are both better to type on than the older Breadin style, however. What ever model you find, make sure you get a new power supply. The newer C-64C is actually the best made machine of the bunch, the so called "short board". I wouldn't start out with emulation, unless you only want to play games. To much the emulators can't cope with. If you follow the adds in all of the forums, plus ebay, and just keep asking, you'll find a setup. Lemon64 has just upgraded, so when they come back on, try them too. Good luck.....

Back then, just before the Amiga came out I bought a C-128, 1571 and a 1750 REU as soon as they were available. I still think the C-128 was the best 8 bit computer released. There were loads of great software packages for the C-128. GEOS was great on the C-128 in 80 columns (mostly - I wish they had made GeoPublisher 80 columns). It sure didn't stop there, or with games either............

I can't believe people are talking about how to port a game they have never heard of! To reduce Bioshock to a mere text adventure would a crime - no matter what computer you would it aim at. Although the System Requirements say BioShock will run on Windows XP with sp 2, that would be painful, to say the least. It needs at least an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, with 2Gb of RAM, and a healthy graphics card. Have fun trying to port that to any Commodore machine. I can understand some interest in BioShock. It is one of the strangest FPS ever thought up, and loads of fun to play. But to cut it down to work in any form on a Plus 4 or C-128 would be criminal. Just my opinion.......

Use this program to see what ROM version you have in the 1571; https://commodore.software/downloads/download/149-miscellaneous-utilities/12217-rom-check-1571 Most ROM are socketed. If you need an upgrade, post it here. I think I still have one.

You are pretty safe, all things considered. The dangerous C-64 PSUs are the North American, units that are filled with Epoxy, color not withstanding and run on 115V. The European PSUs are slightly better made (and run on 220v mains). Everyone should take the age of these power supplies into consideration if you are going to use them. I have had several PSUs damage C-64 computers over the years, usually taking out most of the RAM chips, at the very least.

I remember a company called "Gold Disk" that put out Amiga software, but nothing for the C-64 or C-128. They put out such programs as Professional Page, Professional Calc, Professional Draw series, Comic Setter, and Amiga Appetizer to name a few. Is this what the OP is remembering?

The only other cartridge fast loader that will work on the C-128 is Mach 128 from Access Software - But I don't remember is it will work with SD2IEC. Anybody else remember?

These test with the Super Snapshot will be a while. I seem to be suffering some failures with the trusty old C-64C. Best laid plans of mice and men......

If the old Action Replay carts work, then the Super Snapshot cartridge should work, No? I'll to dig my old Super Snapshot V4 out and see what happens.

Here's a site for getting most of the GEOS files you will need. Good place to know about. https://cbmfiles.com/geos/ Are you running GEOS 2.0? If not, back track and get the 2.0 files. It's much better than than the earlier versions. Hope this helps.

Another vote for Wizball. An amazing game on the C-64! Spindizzy is another great game, that might drive you a little crazy. Have you tried Blue Max? interesting game - have you flown under a bridge yet?

I understand this point, and it makes perfect sense. I have one question though - since the drive ROM can "get in the way", why has there never been a switch included with that ROM, or at least more mention of the potential problem?
