  1. I wasn't going to touch this one - But this post is how I feel about this whole "kickstarter" crap to a point I had to ad my two cents. What a bunch of nonsense.
  2. It seems that the 19th century snake oil salesmen are still alive and well in the 21st century, as sad as that may be.
  3. There are two controllers for the Sega Genesis; the 3 button and the 6. The 6 button can cause real trouble for the C-64 if not modified.. There are edapters available too, to skirt these problems.
  4. Check on the motherboard revision #. You do not want a 4.x board. You do want a 6.x motherboard. That is really more important than the ROM version. If this machine has a 6.x motherboard, it's a fair deal, not a good one, if it's in really nice shape. Happy hunting......
  5. You really need to find a copy of the Asimware software. It's the best that was made for the Amiga. Besides Goodwill, and thrift shops, Ebay is a fair source for SCSI CD-ROM drives. Some are outrageous, price wise, but there are deals, like this one I just pulled up: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Plextor-20X-SCSI-CD-ROM-drive-/222069256297?hash=item33b45bf069:g:ckYAAOSwI-BWLS0p Make sure you get at least an 8X drive. Many Amiga CDs can get away with a 4X, but there are a few games that require the 8X drive. I have used almost every brand you could name over the years. As long as it's SCSI II, it should work with your GVP card. Even with an SD card adapter on my A2000, I still use the CD drive a lot. Darned handy things to have.
  6. There are many good to great games for the C-64. A few of the classics I still enjoy after all these years: Impossible Mission Impossible Mission II Wizball Blue Max Boulderdash Wasteland Paradroid Turrican Realm of Impossibility Lode Runner These are off the top, there are loads more, but you can't go wrong with these.
  7. I was going to suggest Lemon 64 too. It is the gamers site for the C-64. Use this link: http://www.lemon64.com/?mainurl=http%3A//www.lemon64.com/games/ There is also a large forum at Lemon64, with people that you will find helpful.
  8. I won't disagree with you. You might want to post this on "C-128.com" to ask Bill Herd about this problem: http://c128.com/forums/commodore-and-retro Chances are that he will know more about the C-128 than most people.
  9. I used to have trouble just connecting to the new, LCD, LED type TVs. I finally bought a device called the ViewSonic - NextVision N6 and now get a great display from my C-64, and all of the old fashioned game consoles. This isn't the cheapest solution I have found, but surely the best! http://www.hk.viewsonic.com/en/products/advancedtv/nextvision_n6.php I found on new on Ebay for a good price. I use a 32" LED TV.
  10. Do mean " I am The C-128"? It's hard to find, but check this thread on lemon64: http://www.lemon64.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=59740 Hope this helps........
  11. This is an odd one. The only time I have hd trouble along these lines, it was only in 40 columns. I bought two C-128s, and the seller sent me a/v cables that were not for the Commodore! They had eight pin DIN on one end, but were not wired for the 64 or 128. If it isn't as simple as the 40/80 switch being in the wrong position or a cable problem, it could any of several chips in there. I would say it's time to get the schematics from Ray Carlsen's site, and check everything. http://personalpages.tds.net/~rcarlsen/cbm.html
  12. I completely agree with you. It should be against the law to kill a C-128 !
  13. The C-128/C-128D is the best 8 bit computer made, IMHO. My real C-64 doesn't get switched on all that often. I use the C-128 for C-64 work, C-128 work, 128 GEOS, and CP/M. My Two C-64s have a 128 PSU, or a 1764 REU PSU. Best power supplies you can use on these machines.
  14. That would be SkydivinGirl who is also on amibay. She helps C-64 users a lot, & is great to work with.
  15. You will run into more problems with this device, because it is not a true 1541 emulator. For that you need a 1541 U2, or TC64. The device you have good, as far as it goes, just learn it's limitations. I use one of Jim Brains "drives": http://store.go4retro.com/uiec-sd/ Mounted in the computer, like this: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/249184-sdrive-1564-video-questions/http://atariage.com/forums/topic/249184-sdrive-1564-video-questions/
  16. Right, as usual . You can save a little time by using the CBM DOS Wedge with: @command Execute a disk drive command (e.g. f0:diskname, V0:, I0:) and, if you have a fast loader cartridge, you can really speed up the process. But, this all boils down to the basic format command.
  17. Looks interesting, but it also looks like it will not help North American users. That's a shame.
  18. A lot of people forget that Commodore was big in Calculators before the computers. I wouldn't have known which machine it was made for, though.
  19. I bought my first 5200 back in 1982. That unit finally bit the dust about two weeks ago (Might be a record?). I just found a (sort of) local shop that sells refurbished, used, and new Atari machines of all kinds. So, I will replace the 5200 within a week. May as well, since I still have all these cartridges. I bought one of these video adapters, so I can use the 5200 (and most of my other retro consoles) in 720p or higher: http://www.hk.viewsonic.com/en/products/advancedtv/nextvision_n6.php Rather than mod the machines. This way the consoles are left like new, but I still get much better video. THis is the best adapter I have seen to date, even if it is old, design wise. I still rank the 5200 very high on my list of retro consoles!
  20. Many thanks. Don't know why I couldn't find this, but this helps me a lot.
  21. A man after my own heart. I love the case you used. I used a WW II radio case years ago to house my old HP computer, so I really appreciate your work. I have an old X5141 setup, but I am seriously considering getting a KryoFlux unit. http://www.webstore.kryoflux.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=28 These are a lot more expensive, but they do more too.
  22. RobertB; Do you know if any of the Loadstar 128 disks are available any where? I just realized several of mine can no longer be read.
  23. I still use a Commodore 1764 PSU on one 64, and a C-128 PSU with a C-64 pigtail on it for another, since I use upgraded C= REUs quite often. What ever happened to Jim Brain & Bill Herd's C-64 PSU project? It been a long time with no word.........
  24. I've seen these, but never used one. Can you open it up to check the inner works? I would want to nose around inside first. Darn, just answered that question: http://www.lemon64.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=661969
  25. Good point. These cables can be used with anything from the wallwarts, to a C-128 PSU to work with a C-64.
