One of the ribbon cables could be out of alignment, you could pull apart the lynx or give it a good whack below the screen, but you'd risk damaging it more, but since the lines seem to be dissapearing, it could just be from a lack of use, if they all don't go away, or go away and keep coming back I'd consider sending it back, but otherwise, hold onto it.

Is this a Lynx I or a Lynx II you are dealing with?

Itty Bitty Update- Zonik shooting up some of the first enemies in the game, these come in formations of three, one just exploded. The smoke continues in the direction that the enemy was moving in, all software collisions work and several optimisations were made. Seeing that this was accomplished in less than two hours, a little demo may be coming by soon...

Thanks for the info, I already found out what it was awhile ago, but this brings in more depth, thankies. Now if only I could find the software... Edit: Horrific noises eh? Oh, I'll have fun with this....

I've Just picked one of these up for my Apple ][e with all necessary cards included, yet the software is missing, does anyone have extended info on the device itself, or any idea on where to look for software? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Actually, if you only have a few things that can collide, the software tests end up being both faster and use less memory than with Suzy collision detection. Exactly, and it leaves Suzy free to do other things. Edit: and also, it give a general "real area of damage" feel to the game with ease, IE- Zonik will not die if an enemy touches just his outline, whereas in hardware collisions, if any parts of the sprites touch, it will register, and to avoid this, one must make the sprite uncollideable and add a small "desired effect area" sprite underneath it.

Unfortunately, I'm not gonna be able to make PhillyClassic 5 (bloody schoolwork!) If anyone would like to bring a short video of Zonik running (or what little bit of it IS running ) there, I can make a little presentation (in MPEG format) and send it to you. Edit: The first appearence of RINGS with SOFTWARE COLLISIONS (wow I am an incredibly lazy coder!)

I've not tried any replacement LCDs yet, but I must say, this would probably be one of the best upgrades for the lynx, the LCDs originally equipped in the lynx were horrific in my opinion, using a lynx, then looking at a turbo express LCD side by side is an example of what the lynx's should have been (except for the evil price tag)

What games you like that are not popular?
TailChao replied to Dones's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Pen Pen Tricelon for Dreamcast, This game received horrid reviews in some mags, yet it convinced most of my friends to buy DCs after playing multiplayer mode on my copy. And almost anything for TG-16 -
Whats the bestworst looking console design?
TailChao replied to cimerians's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I always loved the TurboExpress's case design, NO SHARP CORNERS! It was very nice, the lower section of it folded inward to make holding easier (No cramps!) and the little hood over the LCD was great. -
Dreamcast Collectors Here...
TailChao replied to Clint Thompson's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I'm not a real collector, but I do love my DC, it was the ONLY console that I bought on its release date, if Sega, as always, just had better marketing, it could probably still be around. -
Just to end the OMG THIS CPU EES FASTUH THEN BUH! Part of this battle, and get rid of some things annoying me- The 68000 is a superior processor to the 65816, having a far quicker MIPS rating (Do you see a 65816 in a Jaguar ?) Also, the genesis had a MUCH faster bus than the SNES, plus rapid cart access, making up for its lack of RAM. As said several times, the Genny could mimic many of the SNES's graphic effects through software (Dynamite Headdy and several others are good examples of what the genesis can really do) The Z80 has a much lower MIPS rating than the 6502 alike, making the CPU speed of the SMS and NES about equal. Put aside the color battle between genny and SNES, with raster effects and mid frame palette changes the genny can catch up, anways I don't think you're going to be jamming your face into your TV, counting the individual colors . Also, as stated several times earlier the SNES's CPU, coming back to haunt it yet again would have great difficulty controlling the 512xblah res. and usually sticks at 256x244 I believe, whreas the genesis almost always runs at 320x200. As for the TurboGrafx, it even had a little boost over the SNES in CPU speed, but chugs along in the graphic department, except for its whacked color processor (yes it had a processor just for color, don't ask me why) Taking sound into account, it all depends on what music you like, techno on Genesis, etc. I, myself prefer the Turbo's Buzzy sound, but thats just me... As for games, just buy all 3, eat ramen for the rest your life from debt and be happy with the best generation of consoles ever. Edit: Since we ARE discussing hardware, I must say, the SNES had one ugly case, turbo was just plain weird, and the genesis looked like a warped VCR *shot* Actually, I thought the genesis looked quite nice, and blended in with most TVs and entertainment systems of the Era

*Votes Genesis* And I must add, even though the SNES can display more sprites at one time, the CPU is far too slow to control such a case, also the color boost of the SNES can be substituted by mid frame palette changes and raster effects in the genesis. *Wonders where the option to vote TG-16 is...*

I have fallen to the evil known as "curiosity" and are interested in coding some demos for the fairchild. Does anyone have any information on the structure of the console, the processor's setup, possible Assemblers, etc. I know it is unlikely, but I'm just curious....

The device would also have to be quite large to collect enough sunlight to power the lynx, and might have to contain a large capacitor to make sure you don't lose your progress when the clouds come out. But seeing as how the lynx's screen washes out when in bright light, even with the sun visor, it would be difficult.
-
Hmm... I gotta grab one of those big old NiCd Batteries, gotta fix the power port first though (curse you lynx two and your sketchy manufacturing)
-
Annnd now we have animated explosions
-
Thanks! As for the lynx's scaling abilities, I make some use of them, but not alot, as it distorts the sprites, and I don't like that for whatever reason it may be . The explosions.... hmmm.... for now most of them are just flashing sprites, but I'll try to cram in full animations later.
-
Thanks, and yes, there is parallax scrolling on the ocean background, about 7 or 8 different speeds. The DOCK-OEI platform is an additional layer, scrolling in sync with the second ocean sprite down from the top on the BG. Yes, it is used in the bonus round, and has no base.

Zonik now features assembling/collapsing level title cards, as in some sonic games. Its better to see it in motion, but this'll have to do for now, also those extra scanlines are a fault in Handy, not the sprite's positioning. additionally, the background has a bit more depth to it in the main game, if zonik moves up, the background moves down, and vice versa. It creates an interesting effect.
-
As I said earlier to Pocket, ask Harry Dodgson, he should have them.
-
Zonik is soundless on the lynx hardware, but will make use of an upgrade I designed. Go with HSFX and the other amiga dev utilities.
-
Ask Harry for HSFX, I have'nt seen WAV2LSF anywhere..... c'ept for the dead link on the BLL homepage

Just tried your demo, and I must say, it runs quite nicely. As for the flickering and skipped parts of sprites, are you using a single screen buffer, or two?
-
Hmmm.. from that description, I'd go with my seccond idea, that the lynx is putting pressure on the screen in that area, causing the colors to warp. To check if this is infact true you could crack open your lynx and move the screen about to see if you can get rid of it. If you dont feel up to opening the lynx for its own saftety, try pressing one corner of the screen just enough so you can see some color cange DONT APPLY TOO MUCH PRESSURE AS YOU MAY BREAK THE LCD GLASS!!! if the effect is similar to what you're seeing at the bottom of your screen, then its the lynx putting pressure, as said above. Nothing to worry about, as your screen can't die from it.
