1- Check all appropriate places for it to be. I once got a 'delivered' notice with no package. Turns out they stuck it in the parcel locker on our mailbox, but didn't actually lock it. I'm lucky I found it before anyone else just took it.

2- Wait an extra day. Some delivery guys scan all their parcels as delivered before actually dropping them off, so it could just have been left on the truck as such. 

3- If the above doesn't help & the status doesn't change, go to the Post Office & ask about it. Sometimes they can check in with the guy on your route and figure things out. That one's a long shot, though.

I think it's a mix of expectations vs. reality, plus the coincidence of the timing. E.T. was HUGE when it came out, so the hype was extremely high, making the sub-par gameplay a much bigger disappointment. Couple that with the market in America going wonky right around that time too, and you get the pieces of a myth that grabs the imagination: "Behold, the game so bad it almost killed videogames!" Not true, but it makes a great story, so people kept telling it.

Metal detectors don't pick up every kind of metal, and many frying pans today are partially/completely made of non-metal.

This is also assuming the kid's school had metal detectors, that he didn't know of a door/window without them, that he didn't bring it in while they were turned off, & that he didn't acquire it inside the school (from the home ec. class, for example.)

If someone intends harm, it's honestly pretty easy to bypass most security.

It is too bad- I did see a few by the end of the event, but that was well after I'd decided not to carry it.

Ah yes, the 'how I pissed off my friends in middle school list'. Basically, I was a 'classic rock' kid in the 90s, so anytime my friend's parents drove us anywhere, I got to pick the music becuase they knew I listened to 'their' music. 

I remember leaving the library once & my friend spent 5 minutes trying to get her mom to play a tape she'd checked out (I forget the band). I casually mentioned I'd gotten a Foreigner tape & it was immediately played. 😉

Never had to worry about that- our cat does a good job of making it clear his kills are dead. Sometimes the hard part is getting it to stay in one piece for cleanup 🤢

Just talking about this with a co-worker watching Star Wars for the first time (yes, really). He wanted to know if the 1998 version he was watching was really that different from the original. I said most of the changes were superfluous & not worth worrying over, except this one. "But self defense!" cries Lucas. George, honey- a green guy pointed a gun at Han and said "I'm trading you to a space worm for money, and the space worm is 100% going to kill you, and I'm happy about that." Green guy doesn't need to fire first before it's self-defense. You just made it awkward.

My understanding is the pattern is:

Steps 1-5: Clean the cart with iso

Step 6: Gently clean contacts with metal polish (this step is very divisive)

Step 7: Bust out the soldering iron to reseat/replace chips

For Kaboom, unless you happens to have the stuff for the latter steps around, it's better to replace it.
