AGREED. I'm watching the internet get all uppity over the fridge form factor, and thinking 'Does no one care about the horrible name?!' This whole product line is so hard to talk about- You've got the Xbox One, which isn't the first Xbox, comes in S & X, but not Series X, that's a different Xbox than the Xbox One, which is a different Xbox than the first Xbox... no wonder the 360 sold the best, it's the only one where everybody knows which one you mean!
-
I haven't received mine yet.

Yes. And quite frankly, anyone who complains that it's not their ideal controller in said scenario is a jerk. It's not like being able to get 8 people in the same place at the same time to play retro games is all that common. Heck, it wasn't that common when this stuff was new! Take your multiplayer when you can get it! You kinda answered your own question- becuase you're importing and pirating. The PS4/Xbox One came out at the height of 3D bluray, so it makes sense that the region coding would be a bit more severe than a console that released 4 years before it even existed. Plus, PS3 is fairly dead, Sony has little incentive to any serious patching on it for region blocking. And ANY company is going to try & lock pirated discs- otherwise you're just asking for a lawsuit.

Well, in full disclosure- I've never owned a digital PS1 pad & my PS1 gaming was almost entirely RPGs where it's not a big concern one way or another. I guess if you've never had one, there's not a huge reason to seek one out, as you'd be used to the weight/shape of a dualshock & you can turn the analog on/off as needed... but there is clearly a case to made for the right person playing the right games to keep one around.
-
I haven't had it do that. I'm guessing either defective cart, or bad cart/system combo-every so often I run into an otherwise fine system that won't play otherwise fine carts. Just happens, I guess.

Wish List Of Missing Systems And Add-On.
HoshiChiri replied to Atariboy2600's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Just the general collector advice of 'look everywhere, even if it doesn't make sense' and 'tell everyone you know to look too'. Out of curiosity, what do you mean by 'missing'? Did something happen to a previous collection? -
Basically, if what you're asking could be relevant to something you've asked within a month or so, bump the previous thread. Atariage is down with some fairly impressive necrothreads if you're saying something notable. I see two threads in your posts: one about technical details for older controllers, and one about quirks of dualshocks. Don't worry about being too granular- we're all here for love of retro. If stopping by to check on Dualshock-related queries results in me learning about Arcadia schematics, I will not be upset. If a thread fragments, we can start new ones for newly emerged topics.
-
Dude, you already asked us if PS1 dualshocks were worth keeping a month ago. You really should've bumped that thread instead. Dualshocks aren't especially different from one another. If the game runs on a PS2, it'll play with a PS2 dualshock. Even if it's not supposed to run on a PS2 but does (like my copy of Tomba), it'll play fine with a PS2 dualshock. Most PS2 games didn't even bother with the analog buttons anyway- the only one I know is Mad Maestro, and it barely works there to begin with. If you have a PS1, keep up to 5 PS1 dualshocks (depending on your useage.) If you have a PS2, keep up to 5 PS2 dualshocks (depending on your useage.) Keep digital-only PS1 pads as a novelty or for nostalgia. If the above sounds wrong, then do something else- whatever makes you happy with your controller horde. You're overthinking this.

15. River City Girls (Switch) This is a wonderful addition to the world of retro side-scrolling beat 'em ups. It's fun, it's colorful, the music is great, the presentation is top-notch. The voice acting is solid, and if you follow YouTube gaming culture, there's probably some familiar voices in there. the only downer is the ending- I can't quite decide if it was less satisfying than El Shaddai, but it's definitely top two. Luckily, this isn't exactly a genre known for its gripping storylines. If the likes of Streets of Rage & Double Dragon are your jam, you can't go wrong with this one.

I can't do a full list- my Gamecube collection's always been on the sparse side- even today I've only got about 20 games for it. The one I spent the most time with, though, is Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. I was in the rare position of actually having enough interested friends with GBAs & link cables to play through the whole thing with 4 people. It's one of my fondest gaming memories.

14. Drakengard 3... sort of (PS3) I was really enjoying this game- it's a lil' janky, but the crazy plot is great & the vulgarity is so jarring compared to my normal fare. And then I went to play the final branch... and found out about the weapon requirement. All the goodwill built up to that point was eroded way in a farming slog. When I found out the last one required beating an annoying challenge mission, I gave up out of frustration. Since my only requirement for 'beating' a game is to roll the credits, and I've done that multiple times now, I'm counting it. Perhaps a few months from now, when the annoyance has faded, I'll give it beating it properly another go.

A co-worker going through some old papers found an SNES manual & NES registration form she'd put away back in the day, & brought them to me since she knew I was into that kind of thing.
It's neat to see the old paperwork!
-
Nintendo had the best paperwork. It was high quality and smelled nice. I remember opening my NES back in 1987, and the smells were nice. Even the pack in cart -- SMB -- had a nice manual.
-
Couldn't agree more. For example I can't perfectly remember When I bought my NES. Then it occurred to me I sometimes put the receipt in the box, so frantically I dug it out and...No receipt. But If I had found it I could finally "remember" when Exactly I bought it!
-
@GoldLeader - Relatively new "hardcore"(...ish) collector, that is an excellent reason to hang on to the receipts that I hadn't thought of before, very nice, Thx!!!

What PS3 games are you currently playing?
HoshiChiri replied to HammR25's topic in Sony Playstation 3
I've been playing Drakengard 3, just hit the collecting wall before branch D (very annoying requirement there- if you need to pad out the game add some more accord missions or something!) Out of curiosity- for those who've played it, did you experience any graphical issues? Mine has a tendency to exhibit screen-tearing, incredible framerate drops (like, turns into a slideshow level of drops), camera getting stuck in odd places- that kind of thing. My disc sadly has a couple pinholes in it, so I can't figure out if this is the disc dying, my system needing a clean, or just how the game is. I've love some input! -
What did you buy today?.........
HoshiChiri replied to evilevoix's topic in Show Us Your Collection!
I'll call it Lightening Force! ALL HAIL LIGHTENING FORCE! 😍 I have a great deal of nostalgia for that one- I still have the copy my parents bought for the family Genesis back when I was 9 (CIB, even!) It was only a couple years ago I learned it was part of a series- so naturally I need the rest! I've picked up 2&3, still need 5 & a way to play ps2 imports for 6. -
I'm not going to pretend I know enough about the workings of a store for homebrew game titles to know if that was a good or bad call... but my initial response is to scold Albert cartoon mom-style. You know, where you can only see their legs & the bottom of an dress/apron? "Al-bert! What do you think you're doing?!" 😆 I hope you're able to get back into game development sometime. I didn't find out about Rikki & Vikki until this year, but it's so bloody fantastic I'm now looking at overpriced copies of Zaku on Ebay just to see what else you've done (on that note- anybody got a copy of Zaku for sale? I'm interested!) Perhaps I'll message the LoadingReadyRun folks & see if they'd accept a gifted Steam copy to play on Twitch. Couldn't hurt. If only I knew how to get ahold of the Game Grumps...

The Official "Thrift finds" Thread
HoshiChiri replied to Happy_Dude's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I would love to get a legit loose Minish Cap for that. I technically own it, but my copy is sealed & at this point I feel weird opening it. I'd love to get a copy I can play (and maybe sell mine for a profit ;p) -
My Small Video Game Collection
HoshiChiri replied to Isaiah Austin's topic in Show Us Your Collection!
I dig the setup- I like how you find related tat to display alongside the games. It's a fairly unique presentation (probably becuase you can only get away with it with a smaller collection. Or a LOT of space.) I'm trying to remember what my collection was like when I was 17... I'm pretty sure it was just my old PlayStation, the former family Genesis, and a Gameboy Color. Oh, and a box of Atari stuff in the closet I couldn't actually use. I don't think my collection really got going until after graduation. There's a lot of craft stores that sell comic-book sized frames, if you'd rather not have the float mat look here. They're not expensive- less than $10. Might I recommend one of these? It's a basic lil' set that'll open a good 90% of the game carts out there. If you think you could get serious about tinkering, this set got recommended in another thread, and it's fairly comprehensive for all gaming things. Otherwise, a gamebit pair can easily be had on Ebay for about 2 bucks, if you can wait for shipping from China- a bit harder to use without a driver handle, but it's possible. -
EYUP 😂 The first thing I noticed about Sinistar, after 'I can copy this', is the unaligned & split stitches. It seems silly, but it really does look better if you can keep it all smooth & pointed the same way.
-
I claim this photo, as it's super clear & you can see each of the stitches, which means I can totally copy it!

I don't buy from sellers who don't answer questions, period. If you don't care enough to both a)make your listing as clear as possible, and b) keep tabs enough on your account to get back to me in a reasonable time, then I don't trust you to care enough to pack & ship my item carefully & quickly. As for 'obvious' questions- I'm sure some are definitely stupid questions, but some people are gun-shy due to sellers outright lying about things. I recently bought a boxed copy of Starhawk for Vectrex whose listing said 'box top is grungy'. Yeah, no- box top was MISSING. Not a big deal for me, becuase studying the picture I went in expecting that (it was quite cheap for a boxed Vectrex game). Doesn't change the fact that the guy lied. Asking a dumb question is a good way to avoid a dealbreaking listing error/lie, as well as find out if the seller is paying proper attention to their account. I'm with Tanooki on the BINs- getting ignored when you submit an offer is infuriating. I'm not just gonna sit around while you wait to see who's got the best offer! Say yes or no so I can either pay or shop elsewhere!
-
I can do- none of the above! 😆 I cross-stitch, which I suppose could convert to pixel art... but it would be on paper, I have no idea how to computerize it. And I'm fine with that- maybe one of these years I'll start putting stitchery projects into the Secret Santa gifts. I need to finish that Link's Awakening map first though...
-
HO HO HO! I LIVE! I'm quite sure at least one of those will exist by this time next year 😉 (Not from me, I can't code, but I can't imagine someone isn't inspired!)

Man, I WISH- my Macy's has a space at the back of the housewares area that used to be giftwrap. These days it's fixture storage & overflow candy during the holidays. I've often though about how well a game dept. would fit in there- and I'd DEMAND to be reassigned if it ever happened! (Can't imagine they wouldn't- everyone knows I'm into games and it's adjacent to my current area, so it would be ideal 😏)
