  1. Check out the intv-dongle here. I'm not sure if they will physically fit the socket so you might need an extension cable. http://2600-daptor.com
  2. You can enable mouse support right in the gui. It can be set as a global default or set per game, all from the gui.
  3. Many intellivision homebrews are already digitally distributed, available for play on systems with the largest install bases there is, on devices that your wife might already own. By the way, if you like retro homebrews check out Argon from Markspace they are a new platform that is focusing on homebrews for retro systems. Still, intellivision homebrew publishers know what is the best way to sell them.
  4. Yes they both need cfg files. Most mattel cartridges don't but chess has cartridge ram that needs configuring.
  5. You're actually not far off. Once they fill a shipping container the unit cost of shipping does not go up. They could fill multiple shipping containers with 10k amicos.
  6. How many amicos do you think fit in a shipping container?
  7. What's the difference in unit shipping cost of 10k consoles vs 50k consoles?
  8. We probably will see intellivision homebrews on the amico store, but only because the ceo is a fan. From a business point of view view it would otherwise never happen. And it still won't happen for a year or two after amico comes out. Like I said before, amico remakes of these games would be more likely to sell. I hope IE will allow their intellivision emulator to play user loaded rom files from sd card. Hoping doesn't mean it will happen; not all intellivision homebrews are available as rom file anyway. And I doubt anyone here wants to spend the time or money to make an intellivision cartridge playing device, so I'd be surprised if that happens. It wouldn't be a perfect solution anyway.
  9. The limitation imposed was from ram and money, because ram was expensive. The channel f in 1976 had 2kB of graphics ram. It had low resolution and limited use of eight colours. The astrocade had 4kB ram, and technically four colours; but the colours can be selected from a palette of 256 colours. The intellivision graphics system (1979) has less than 1k of graphics ram, but implemented the first graphics tile system. I think when they first looked at the GI chip it only did eight colours but they doubled that among other improvements. Atari in 1977 solved the ram problem by coming up with a graphics chip that used no ram at all. The issue here is the game programmer has to keep on top of it every scanline, which is not easy and why early cartridges look primitive. Technically, atari 2600 backgrounds can have twice the vertical resolution as intellivision. It would have been nice if the intellivision sixteen colours were programmable. But even the commodore 64 had a fixed sixteen colour palette. And the atari 2600 can display more colours than the nes.
  10. I don't see many retro-gamer or non- retro gamer moms buying any intellivision games for their kids. It's expected that people into intellivision will be a smaller minority of amico buyers and even among those, they will be more likely to buy the classic intellivision games than the homebrews. Intellivision homebrew is a very niche market and putting them on a modern console won't change that. Now you might see some amico remakes of some intellivision homebrews that could sell. There's already lots of new hardware that plays nes cartridges to fill that demand, which seems to be not insignificant. Obviously not the scope that would interest nintendo. As expected, IE has already said they have no interest in making such a device for intellivision cartridges. It would be far more niche than nes cartridge devices. And a modern device that plays intellivision cartridges needn't be amico specific. There's no reason it shouldn't work with any modern computer, raspberry pi, etc. However, the biggest need going forward for playing intellivision will be new controllers.
  11. I know but if you want to maximise the sales of an intellivision homebrew it should be on cartridge complete in box.
  12. Isn't the other big limitation with fg/bg that you are restricted to only half the intellivision colours for foreground and objects. With colour stack mode you're very limited with changing background colours, which is why people might not use it. But in a lot of cases you don't need to change the background colour much.
  13. So, essentially reserving a few gram cards for bunkers and treating them as a bitmap. Since only one pixel gets changed is it possible to write to a single gram byte rather than update the whole card? The bunkers in space armada look like the are made up of three sprites, double width, so only three gram cards are used.
  14. If you get a flash memory cart for your 2600 you wouldn't need any other cartridges. Digital distribution is far cheaper, quicker, easier, and allows for bug fixes. However, would an intellivision homebrew that was sold by digital distribution only sell more or less than an equivalent quality intellivision homebrew that was sold cartridge only? These things are not for the majority of people, the homebrew market is much smaller than the nostalgia market.
  15. Once they start they wouldn't stop production. Let's say they were ready to go to manufacturing in March., and their deadline to ship from China to make April 15 is March 15. After a couple of weeks of production they take what's ready and put it on a boat. I thought they said they could make three to five thousand amicos a day.
  16. There is demand for new hardware that plays old media e.g. analogue, retron, avs. The intellivision community is smaller but that hasn't stopped people making homebrew cartridges and flash cartridges.
  17. April 15 is the current release date. They could get several thousands produced in march and delivered by then. Last time, they made the announcement about two months before the date. So expect an announcement within a couple of weeks or so. I'm guessing they will first decide on a new date before making an announcement.
  18. 13 moves Jzintv4droid Wouldn't it be better if each game was a separate thread?
  19. Nurmix numbered the pins on the female de9 connector backwards. You're doing it right otherwise.
  20. Don't you have a usb game controller? Vectron can work well, maybe better with a keyboard. It only uses seven of the sixteen disc directions. You can map them to number keypad 7412369.
  21. IE cares about it. The amico controllers are ambidextrous and is a helpful feature for casuals. There's lots of intellivision games that are eight directions or less and would play perfectly fine with an arcade joystick. The Amico disc is pressure sensitive so something like Amico Astrosmash which looks like a 2-way control could have varying speed control.
